DELILAH WAS speechless for a moment before her soul finally returned.
"Senior," she politely greeted him. Even if Mikhael was younger than her, she'd still have to address him that way, since he joined the Judgement Order before her.
"There's no need to be polite, we're all one family after all," it was another reason why Mikhael didn't fear anyone.
With identity of Judgement Order's member, who would still dare cause trouble for him?
As for how Mikhael became one...
He doesn't know if it's his luck of misfortune.
It all began around the time he became a hunter.
City of Evernight existed for 2100 years, following the fall of ancient Egypt, but it was still hidden from the world up to this day. Being located in the dryest deserts of Egypt, and protected with various hiding spells, it's only obvious that it's still unknown to humanity even today.
But the Judgement Order existed far longer than that, perhaps the first membered existed since the creation of Vampire race.
According to legends, they started off as a group of three and slowly expanded, rarely taking in more members, and roaming the world with the intent to protect their race. The first few generations of them had already died long ago in conflicts that occured between vampires and other races — the situation was really messed up back then.
And humans had no way of knowing the state of the world, since even cities could get wiped out without a trace in a day in order to keep a secret.
The current oldest living member of Judgement Order was around 3000 years old, and although they are loyal to the Vampire King — if, perhaps, he as well wanted to harm vampires, the ancient teaching instructed Judgement Order to attack him as well.
Even Mikhael wasn't too clear on this matter, but there's apparently a weapon that could kill even the Vampire King in hands of the Judgment Order.
Anyway, that aside, Mikhael back then entered the City of Evernight, but he knew that there were Purebloods over there. Hence, despite being confident in his abilities, Mikhael still worried that he might somehow fall in their hands. Even though he was a half-blood, he wasn't sure if he could avoid the influence of blood suppression if he indeed met one of those guys, when he chanced upon the news of Judgement Order.
They were independent body! They can resist the influence of Pureblood! They also get a drop of heart blood from each Pureblood, and could obtain more as a price for some extremely dangerous missions.
Mikhael didn't need to ponder on this matter anymore.
Can be safe from Purebloods, can also get material for crafting powerful talismans, what else could he ask for?
So Mikhael signed in, and... Under series of ridiculous circumstances and events, Mikhael became an official member in only twenty years.
How ridiculous were those events?
For example, he got a mission to hunt a dangerous vampire from the Order, but no one knew his whereabouts. For another example, he received a mission from Hunters HQ to check some suspicious places where massacres occurred. Or another example where those two targets ended up being... The same person.
Judgement Order didn't restrict the movements of their members nor trainees, they even encouraged them to go out and stop evildoers.
They were all given a golden token that was infused with various spells, such as for communication, location, distress signal... But the most important was the one that recorded their hunts.
The more vile vampires they hunted down while wearing those tokens, the more strands of black would appear on their tokens — but even the best trainees had only five strands at most. It was really a mysterious thing, even Mikhael was tempted to dissect it when he discovered that he had no idea how it worked.
They existed since the times of first generations, making Mikhael curious about them.
But anyway, in that era, there were especially lots of crazed vampires that slaughtered people.
As an Esteemed Seat, because their identities were sensitive, no one would know whom they actually killed — not even the other Seats. Only their leader and the archives no one should touch held those records, unless some Seat wanted to brag about their accomplishments.
So Mikhael didn't fear his identity being exposed at all and went to hunt vampires as a hunter while hanging that token from his waist.
He even shamelessly used his identity as a trainee of Judgement Order to escape encirclement of vampires who saw him killing their own kind.
Hence, by the time he returned to the city of Evernight twenty years later, his token had more black strands that even some official members!
Thus, after passing a simple interrogation with the power of suggestion to see if Mikhael wanted to harm their kind, Mikhael officially joined their ranks. It wasn't that bothersome at all, Mikhael only hunted down the vile vampires himself, and he didn't really hate the entire race. Some vampires were even better than humans he knew.
And centuries later, as he shamelessly continued this tactic to hunt down vampires, his reputation soared in both sides and he became quite famous among the members of Judgement Order.
He even befriended the old grandpa that's the oldest among them, who immediately saw through Mikhael's bloodline.
But even so, he didn't say anything and shielded Mikhael.
What of Purebloods? What good are they?
Judgement Order was a big family protecting their own, how could Mikhael possibly hide his identity forever on his own? Even with the Hunters HQ helping him due to his identity as the First Seat, was there truly such a thing as sincere protection?
Hunters would rather have Mikhael as their ally instead of letting him join the vampires. So they hid him well, but what about the Judgement Order?
Even if it's only half, he's still one of their kind. He didn't want to harm their kind either and was such a good and cheerful kid, so they naturally had to shield him. Mikhael was very young vampire back then as well, and many thought that he was incredibly cute so he suddenly gained around forty something older siblings.
Those people were another reason why Mikhael wanted to protect this city.
He was well aware that if humans became aware of vampires and made their move on them, the first to stand on the front-line would be members of Judgement Order.
"This..." She didn't know what to say.
"Why is senior on this train? Not to mention those rumors..."
"Those rumors are exaggerated a bit. As for why I personally came, that's naturally because I can't implicate someone else to bring this here," he explained, "This matter is a bit suspicious as well, no one was supposed to know about this deal."
"..."
Delilah felt like all those surprises she saw today should be enough to last her for a lifetime.
Especially that pitch black token.
This person should be a really old senior, how come he's traveling with the Pureblood and the other party hid his identity from him?
"Ah, right. The Higher Noble from earlier, keep my identity a secret from him. I'm just an ordinary human right now if he asks," he added, suddenly remembering that the other party came and had a short conversation with this woman. How can an ordinary Higher Noble meet with Judgement Order and and leave safely, especially when he's suspected of crime?
Mikhael understood that the other party had irrefutable proof or identity that proved identity... But what?
It made Mikhael even more unwilling to show his identity on the vampire side, especially after he showed his worth as a spell-caster.
Mikhael didn't want to know about him coming here to hand over those things to Dante, nor vampires nor Hunters because even the slightest suspicion of his ability might make some people discover his bloodline.
A hunter can't come in this city, but how could a member of Judgement Order bring Armament Set into this city? This thing can't be made by ordinary spell-casters, so who was the one that made it? Some Seats already knew that Mikhael knew extraordinary spell-caster because of his weapons, where could another pop out from?
Won't that mean that the same person was helping vampires now? They'd out pressure on Mikhael to give that person up, and if Mikhael refused, they'd threaten him with his identity! How could he allow that to happen?
"Understood," even Dalilah wondered the same, but didn't ask. Was it Mikhael's acquaintance that made it?
Who is that person?
Forget about Hunters and vampires, even humans and spell-casters would become crazed if they learned of his existence.
Mikhael could perhaps deal with them, but he had to enter the Deep Sleep in few days. It would be inconvenient, maybe they'd even disturb his slumber just to get him.
So Mikhael made sure to create as many identities that would let him survive as possible if something went wrong.
Judgement Order can protect him, but at what cost? If all Purebloods, Dante excluded, really wanted to kill them all, how could they get away unscathed even if they won?
How many allies Purebloods had and how many members Judgement Order had?
"Senior... The thing about hope... Is it true?"
Mikhael sighed.
"No." He saw disappointment in her eyes before sighing.
"Not yet. For now, this is merely something to protect this city," he continued as her eyes regained their previous luster, "I have to leave for a while, but the situation outside is a bit bothersome so I can't help but worry. As for the part about hope, it would naturally come true after few more decades," it's impossible for Mikhael to finish this Armament Set so fast.
It's power was extremely dangerous, it could maybe kill vampires if misused, so he had to be careful.
But despite his words, she didn't lose that splendid radiance.
He said that it will come true in few decades. For vampires who waited for this opportunity for millenniums... Few decades were really nothing.
"Feel free to relay everything that happened here to seniors when you return. I have some business to deal with first, but I'll also pay them a visit a bit later. Just say that it's Mikhael whom you met, they'll know who I am."
Her eyes widened.
Although she was the youngest member, she also heard about Mikhael. After all, her seniors would often talk about him or mention him in their jokes, especially about how he's lazy fellow who doesn't know to return home!
Judgement Order truly was like a big family, so they naturally considered their headquarters to be their home as well.
Delilah also hoped to meet some seniors that were away, especially this Mikhael whom she heard of often, especially his deeds of destruction — cough, heroic deeds.
She also heard that some people spoke of him being a pirate, so the young Delilah who put a cold front, but actually wanted to be lawless gangster and go on adventures, she only held reverence for this senior of his.
Now, seeing him in flesh in front of her.
"Understood! Senior, you don't have to worry about anything, leave everything to me!" Mikhael flinched from her enthusiasm.
What's this? She changed personality again?
Is it safe to make her a member of Order?
"Alright, I believe you," he can try, at the very least, "But..." His tone became serious.
"You need to be careful. It would appear that even those on top want to have a hand in this matter. No matter what you do, pretend like you know nothing. Even those spies, don't get rid of them immediately, sent them on missions and slowly thin them out."
She nodded.
Although they protected vampires, not everyone was worthy of that protection.
Not to mention, those people already went and harmed innocent people, how could they show mercy now?
"Even if you guys get involved with this, don't let the Purebloods know about it. Your seniors are smart, they'll know how to get rid of people without raising suspicion. Purebloods aren't affiliated with Judgement Order, so they won't suspect you helping out me meeting with Seventh, especially with those rumors. Use me, if the need arises. Say that you're trying to hunt me down, say that I've already entered the City."
Why does he make their Order sound so crafty and evil? They really do everything according to law, ah!
"But senior, how will you meet with the Seventh then?"
Mikhael sighed.
"I don't know yet, I didn't expect that things would get this complicated," how did the news spread? Mikhael still refused to believe that Dante betrayed him.
"I might assume identity of Judgement Order, and then... Who knows, go to storm his house in order to investigate or something?" Mikhael casually spoke but she sucked on the cold air.
As expected of the member leaving only destruction in his wake, the legends were real! He even dares to raise storm in Pureblood's home, ah!
"Don't worry about it, your senior is quite crafty when it comes to those things, if I can't even play a bunch of Dumblords, how could I possibly continue to protect vampires?
He sighed, it's indeed not easy to deal with those things.
If only he found out the bastard that spread those rumors, he'd pluck all their hair until they becomes bald!
She solemnly nodded.
Delilah trusted his words, he's indeed a crafty fellow.
"Senior, if you don't mind me asking.. What's with that shirt?" She asked and he lowered his head before realizing what she was talking about. Ah, another of his "i hate vampires" shirt. He saw them on discount and bought entire stall before throwing them inside the void, but..
He can't tell her that, right?
"Would a member of Judgement Order wear something like this?"
"..."
Not even if you beat them up, most likely.
"Precisely, so no one would even dream of connecting my identity with Judgement Order." He lied with a straight face. It's most likely that his seniors would beat him up if they caught a wind of this, so he hoped she'd forget it as soon as possible.
She nodded, she couldn't refute that logic.
"Ah, by the way, do you perhaps know if those fellows from Da Clan changed their residence? Are they still in the South sector?" He immediately changed the theme. Mikhael almost forgot about Natalie!
He should bring her over there for them to convert her.
"Yes, why does senior ask?"
"Oh, I bring another—" he coughed, "I found another member that deflected to the vampire side, so I won't to let them take care of her. Earlier when we fought off those intruders, she protected quite a few members of the vampire race," Mikhael won't miss out the chance to speak well of her.
Although she could live in the vampire city, if Judgement Order finds out about her being a hunter and wants to find trouble with her, it would be hard for her even if she was turned.
As expected, once Delilah heard that a hunter protected ordinary vampires, she became more accepting.
"Where is she? Do you want us to take her there instead?"
Mikhael shook his head.
"No need, it's a good cover for me if I go to the Da clan instead of Seventh Pureblood," since everyone knew that he's going to meet Dante, what else does he have to hide now?
"..."
She hesitated before eventually deciding to speak her opinion.
"Senior, why the Seventh Pureblood? Also, is he really someone we can trust?"
Mikhael bitterly smiled. Although the Judgement Order stands tall, and everyone says that nor even Pureblood would casually offend them, what's the actual truth?
Vampires saw as Purebloods as their deities that would never harm them, but Judgement Order has seen all the bloodshed behind those smiling faces. Purebloods wouldn't hesitate to slaughter their own kind if they could rise to the position of a Vampire Prince, so what do few lives of ants matter in their eyes?
And Judgement Order, how can Purebloods not know those rumors about them having weapons to kill even the Vampire King? Although they are all acting amicably, how could they let the power threatening them remain?
Not to mention that they couldn't even find an opening to send their spies and control them, so they could only bit by bit chip away their strength.
How could members of Judgement Order die easily?
Yet why are some of them dead?
What about first few generations?
Delilah naturally knew all those things when she joined the official members.
It's why Judgement Order had no choice but to turn a blind eye to some of Purebloods' actions.
They too, were actually helpless.
Weapon that could kill a Vampire King? So what of it? Even if it does exist, how could it be simple to activate it?
Loyal and serving the Vampire King?
How could that behemoth kindly look down on them? How could they serve someone who wants to kill them? Who knows why he actually didn't act against them yet!?
"Yes, Dante is a kind person. He really isn't suited to being a Pureblood," Mikhael finally spoke, his words similar to Ethan's, "You can trust him, leaving our identities aside, he's my friend. I rarely make mistakes when gauging other's characters."
He didn't mind her knowing.
Mikhael probably trusted the Judgement Order more than he trusted in himself.
"Alright then, we should probably return now lest we raise suspicion," he changed the theme, "I still don't know who that Higher Noble is, so i can't be too careless."
"..."
She was speechless once again.
Damn! It's actually the Sixth Pureblood, not a Higher Noble!
She wondered if she should tell Mikhael about it, but then she recalled other person's thoughts and the rumors about Mikhael.
Her seniors all said the same thing, as long as there's a Pureblood around, Mikhael would run away from the country, forget about the mere train. She even heard that he joined the Judgement Order because he was running away from them, having some kind of a grudge with those guys.
She still didn't know that he's a half-blood though.
Only the old guy knew about it, but how could Delilah talk with him and get that information when not even her seniors did.
She sighed, in any case, the Sixth Pureblood was protecting the Seventh, so they should all be on the same side, no?
Maybe she should tell him after all, he wouldn't really jump off a train for real just because there's Ethan in it, right?
Yet before she could make a choice, she already saw Mikhael leaving the cargo and shrugged it off.
Forget it, she can tell him later once they arrive in the city, the Sixth Pureblood probably won't hurt Mikhael until then.
While she was lost in her own thoughts, Mikhael was also in a serious dilemma as well.
How... Should he bring Natalie to the Da Clan?
Should he turn her first or let them turn her?
But what if she refuses? How could he enter their residence? There will be a lot of people patrolling to catch him, according to his understanding of Purebloods, a person sneaking in Da Clan's manor would indeed be suspicious itself — so he can't break in.
Should he... Go on his knees and act another loyal-servant-returning-to-save-master episode? Must this Seat act pitiful for others once again?
He shrugged.
He already converted five members of the Da Clan that way, he would probably succeed with the sixth one as well...
