THE SITUATION was easily resolved from that point.
Judgement Order took over the train and calmed everyone down, and there were still no clues about perpetrators' identity on the surface. Mikhael also mentioned the young vampire that survived from before and Delilah promised to take care of him.
Ethan didn't ask Mikhael about what he talked about with her, seemingly unaware of everything, while Mikhael also felt no need to question this person.
But since the driver was killed, a problem arose — how to move the train? Since this train was a big Armament and the whole road used mana to transverse the ground, only a spell-caster could make it move.
Perhaps the reason why there were so many spell-casters earlier was precisely for that purpose — although they were weaker than normal, together they could make this train move.
At that moment, Mikhael offered to help. Although Delilah was somewhat stunned, she didn't suspect anything. Her senior was already a legend, what is controlling a simple train compared to his previous feats?
But Ethan's eyes gleamed with suspicion.
Not only does one need to be proficient in controlling mana to make this train move, but they also need to know the road to the City of Evernight. How could just anyone know that? It would seem that this little spell-caster had some rather interesting secrets to him.
Mikhael would probably sneer if he knew his thoughts. He needs to know the road well in order to escape more proficiently, okay!
So the two of them didn't get a chance to talk again during this ride while Mikhael regretted being unable to eat more food while driving the train. Personnel has already been killed earlier, Mikhael could only lament.
Yet, the moment he stepped in the city, Mikhael disappeared from everyone's sight, almost as if he was never there in the first place.
When Ethan came to look for him, he could only sigh regretfully, and chose to retreat.
"My Lord, what are we to do now?" Vane asked, they were naturally worried about their target disappearing.
"Let's go to the Seventh's residence. This person has some skill, so he should arrive later. It won't be too late to talk with him then," he didn't suspect that Mikhael was caught or suffered. Seeing how he disappeared the moment they arrived, Ethan decided to continue with his act and take on Mikhael's place.
"Understood!" There was another group of Nobles that came to welcome them.
"Esteemed guest, we heard that you met with some trouble on your way, so we hurried to greet you," the person leading the way explained and Ethan narrowed his eyes.
News sure do spread fast, even Dante's personal assistant came to fetch him the moment he stepped out off the train!
But Ethan did worry, most of Dante's people don't even know how Ethan looks like. Only some Higher Nobles Ethan personally set to protect him from the shadows were aware of his face, but there's nothing odd about that situation.
Most Nobles don't know how their Purebloods look like, it's both for the sake of convenience and protection. After all, you can never be too sure about who is whose spy around them, and most Purebloods preferred to act alone when they have important business, but it would be inconvenient if others recognized them.
"It was fine, the commotion didn't trouble me at all," he replied as he came in front of him, "But I don't have time to waste. Lead the way."
That person's eyes flashed with unhappiness, but he still showed amicable smile.
"As sir wishes," the others immediately surrounded him to "protect" him, making various eyes realize this situation. Those rumors, it seems like this person isn't as important as they thought. Ethan truly acted like he was royalty being protected and exuded an aura of arrogance making a certain spectator among the crowd feel weird when he saw this scene.
The Seventh seems to have some plans regarding him... Or no. Seventh Pureblood was still young and somewhat naive when it comes to their world. It was probably the Sixth Pureblood pilling the strings behind — or so everyone thought.
As the group departed, Mikhael who now wore unscrupulous clothes in the crowd and had his mask removed revealing a youthful face, stepped out looking in their direction.
"This person..." If Mikhael didn't realize that this person is acting to be him already, he'd truly have lived all those centuries in vain. But, why?
"Don't tell me, he fell for my charms already and wants to protect his future spouse?" He raised an eyebrow, the him right now had an handsome countenance that made passers-by around him pause their gaze on him for a second, especially those peach colored eyes mischievously looking in one direction. Even some women couldn't help but blush when they saw his face — it's just a pity that its wasted on this lazy person with questionable fashion sense.
Mikhael suddenly laughed.
He thought of another possibility, could it be that this Mr. Handsome works for Dante? In that case, it's much easier, he can just ask Dante to be his matchmaker, how can Mr. Handsome refuse?
As he began to think of various evil plans for how to get his future husband, the little doll from before poked her head out of his pocket. It looked like ordinary doll made of cloth, but her head was bigger than the rest of her body, making her look cuter.
Together with Mikhael's devilish countenance, this little doll in his pocket really made people throw him some weird glances.
'What the— he has some weird quirks.'
'People who are handsome can't be simple, indeed.'
'They had their own perverse taste, we normal people simply cannot understand them~'
'Maybe he isn't interested in living humans, so he prefers dolls?'
'At least we won't have to worry now, be won't be able to lure many woman with his weird kink~'
'Doll in his pocket, wicked look in his eyes — no matter how good looking he is we better stay away!'
'Right, we better run!'
'What if we catch his eye?'
And so they thought, but no one said it out loud. They only exchanged understanding glances before moving away from him.
Mikhael finally realized that something was odd before he saw Natalie, making his face turn unsightly.
Right, before he gets his future husband, he should settle things with this girl first.
So he began to walk in opposite direction from Ethan and out the doll on his shoulder. The doll used her tiny hands to hold onto his neck — she was aware that this person was powerful so she didn't try to run.
Not to mention that this person saved her, and didn't hand her over to Judgement Order, so she trusted him a bit. And her wounds from earlier all seemed to heal while she was sleeping.
"Little doll, we have arrived in City of Evernight. Now, even if you want to leave, it would be impossible."
Natalie, although residing in a body full of cotton, felt her heart skip a beat at his words. He knew her identity!
"But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. You should understand that the moment you accepted the mission to enter the City of Evernight, the HQ decided to abandon you," he continued, "You can't go back anymore. And it will be useless to continue to target that man."
Her heart skipped a beat once again. He also knew her target? How? Who was this person?
However, she couldn't speak in this form, so she could only raise her head in Mikhael's direction. Now that she had a chance to see the face underneath that mask, this person was really handsome, ah! He didn't lose out to the other man she saw in that cabin.
But although the other party had a more mature sharpness, this person also had his unrestrained youthful beauty. Woman would always admire beauty of men, whether devilish, innocent, mature or s****l handsomeness — Natalie was no different.
She thought that this situation was no longer as bad as she imagined.
What's a weird fashionable sense in front of this face? If she manages to seduce him, she can just help him change it!
So she immediately changed her target to Mikhael.
Anyway, she'll be stuck in this city from now on, right? Why worry about anything else, she can still enjoy if she gives her best!
Mikhael, who didn't know that he became her love interest, continued to worry how to persuade her to stay.
"Although the Da Clan on the outside has some prestige, it doesn't change that they're incapable of improving due to their conservative opinion. You yourself lived with them for twenty-five years, so you should know that as well?"
He asked, he still remembers that she once wanted to cut all ties with Da can when she learned of their history!
She only dumbly nodded.
Ah, not only his face is good, but his voice was also soft and mellow when he coerced her like this.
'Cutie, keep talking!'
'Don't ever stop talking, I agree to everything you say!'
She suddenly leaned down so that her head pressed on Mikhael's neck.
He didn't think much of it, he only assumed that she had a problem with controlling her body now that she was a doll.
But Mikhael was naive! Too naive!
Who was Mikhael and who was Natalie!? Even when deciding to chase Ethan, Mikhael still held back a bit and didn't cling to him, but what about her? Since childhood, she was impulsive and very clear on the things she wanted! If she set her eyes in something, she'd throw away everything and won't hesitate to obtain it — regardless of what means she had to use.
And now she wanted Mikhael, who cares about his opinion!
Feelings can be cultivated once the deed is done, anyway~
And now, having the chance to touch and kiss, even if she's just a doll, how could she possibly miss this opportunity!
She didn't have lips right now, but she had entire face, no? So she leaned down to "kiss" him, not because she was unable to control herself.
"But unlike the outside, the Da clan in this city is very prosperous. In fact, out of all generations, there's even five of them that joined the Judgement Order, so they are all heavily respected."
She paused, but she didn't let go of him.
He even knew her family, if this isn't a sign of true stalk— love, then what is it!?
Mikhael didn't feel like it was wrong to know about it, after all those five people were precisely the five Hunters he personally converted. As previous Esteemed Seats, those people were also very proud and had high combat skills, so how could they remain ordinary their whole lives now that they became immortal?
"Anyway, the Da clan will surely accept you. Not only are your skills good, but you yourself aren't a bad person."
She was satisfied with him praising her. This good man, how could she let him go now? Could it be that he admired her for a while?
"Also, becoming a vampire isn't that bad, you know," he continued onto important part.
She nodded.
'It isn't, if you're by my side!'
"Not only will you get stronger, but you can stay young forever."
'I can also look at you and kiss you forever!'
"You can also get stronger, not hurt easily..."
So, the vampires around this city would all see an odd sight of a very handsome youth talking to himself about why should one become a vampire while having a cute girly doll hugging his neck like a collar.
When Mikhael finally arrived in front of the Da clan's residence, Natalie was already prepared to become a vampire and follow him forever. His skills at converting people has already reached perfection, and coupled with her infatuation, Mikhael didn't even have to try hard to win her over at all.
He was still ignorant about her feelings tho, worrying about how to make Dante help him match-make with Mr. Handsome.
"Nod your head if you're willing to join this clan now. I truly have no other way to help you," he sighed while she nodded repeatedly, as if afraid that he'll change his mind.
"Alright then, you have to help me out. Whatever I say, just go along with me!"
She tilted her head in confusion before becoming excited again.
'Holly f**k!'
Don't tell her that he's going to act like her husband she eloped to the dark side? So he could only bring her here and ask for Da clan's blessing and protection!
Her mind began to conjure few ideal futures that included weddings and traveling the world together.
How could she say no!?
Mikhael only took another mask from his void that covered his lover face before rubbing his eyes. He took Natalie who was a bit disappointed that she couldn't hug him anymore, but once he protectively placed her on her chest and hugged her, she became happy once again.
Ah, ah, ah, this counts as taking another advance! I can die happily now!!
ALTHOUGH THE Da clan didn't have a long history nor powerful bloodline to back them up, they were without a doubt one of the most influential aristocratic families in the City of Evernight.
Despite some of them were originally hunters, that didn't make other vampires look down on them at all.
In fact, those who were outstanding Hunters were now the most respected members of Judgement Order, fighting on behalf of vampires and keeping them from harm's way! That alone made vampires look at them with reverence and respect.
Many other clan's wanted to have marriage relationships with them, as well.
So, to be able to work as a guard for the Da clan's entrance was very honorable thing.
That's how Desmond, an ordinary Noble who managed to safeguard this position for centuries felt, at the very least.
He was originally a noble working under Blood River Calamity, Lucia Da'Ciel — the female Higher Noble who married that first generation of Da clan's Hunters who became a vampire later on.
Yes, precisely the blind twin whom Mikhael saved back then.
Her title alone speaks of blood that flowed like rivers whenever she made a move, but after marrying, her ruthlessness faded away and only those who lived in her era now remembered her valiant figure.
As the two of them finally got children and more people from the Da clan on the outside joined, they slowly grew to their current position. Nowadays, outsider only know the Da clan as branch of hunters who became vampires, and not many knew the terrifying Higher Noble that made creation of this clan possible.
But this guard remembered it well. As one of her loyal admirers, he wanted to stay by his idol's side forever and protect the family she created. From that point onwards, Desmond realized that his judgement was correct.
When Da clan expanded and five of their family members became members of Judgement Order, he realized that his position was even better.
Why?
Because he alone, witnessed the time when those five, including the first one, arrived in this clan! And since he welcomed them inside, he also was the first to create bonds with those five who even now treated him like an elder of their family — despite Desmond looking young and handsome.
That naturally means that he alone experienced all five episodes of the 'servant seeking grievances for his master', but he was unable to become acquainted with that so-called servant.
That only made him even more reluctant to hand over his position.
What a joke, to be a guard in this clan was even better than to be their friend. Who else can boast to be on good terms with five members of Judgement Order?
So, while guarding the magnificent marble gates to the entrance of manor — though, there wasn't anything to guard against — Desmond thought that today was going to be just another boring day.
Yet contrary to his expectations, while he was looking casually at the crowd of people in front of the manor, he suddenly heard the familiar words that could only make him feel exaltation!
"This servant seeks the Da clan to help my pitiful mistress settle her grievances!"
He didn't wait for anything else as he immediately opened the gates and came out to personally greet him.
"What? Who is bullying our Da clan!? Who dares to seek trouble with our family members? Come, my friend! We'll help you settle all you problems!" He immediately yelled, expressing justness and arrogance of the Da clan that made even Mikhael taken aback.
'This...'
'Isn't this fellow a bit too excited?'
He didn't even say what's the problem?
But would Desmond worry about Mikhael's opinion?
'This fellow is here again!'
He brings another family member to their Da clan!
All five people brought by him are illustrious figures! What did that mean!?
There's possibility of the sixth member joining the Judgement Order!
How could Desmond not be excited in this situation? He's probably even more excited than the Da clan's head himself!
But he suddenly paused. There's only Mikhael here, where's the pitiful mistress?
Mikhael also noticed his eyes wandering around and smiled. Good, it's the same old fellow! This will work.
He began to cry, the eyes were already reddish because he rubbed them before and now even tears began to form at the corners as he knelt down.
"My pitiful mistress! Look what happened to you, you don't even have a basic human form anymore, ah!" Desmond paused when he saw Mikhael take out an odd doll and place it in front of him before beginning to hit his own leg as if punishing himself.
"How cruel! What did my pitiful mistress do wrong for those wretched villains to punish her like this! Was it wrong to want to protect innocent vampires even if she's a hunter! Why must she suffer because she refused to kill those who had nothing to do with he mission?"
Natalie was grateful that she's just an ordinary doll right now, or else she'd be sweating so hard she would give Mikhael away. By now, a curios crowd already began to gather around them, and even those from the Da clan appeared.
Their eyes gleamed with odd light, but they didn't say anything.
The first time Mikhael used this tactic, Lucia felt weird once she realized that there was no such servant in her lover's life, but she didn't say anything since he didn't want to harm them, and didn't ask for anything in return. The second time, there were already few people who only thought that this situation seemed familiar, but didn't think too much.
The third time, clan already had few who joined in their own, so despite feeling odd that there's another servant expressing master's grievances, they didn't say anything and acted like they didn't know a thing.
The forth time, they already realized something was weird, and that there's someone protecting their Da clan and converting them to this side.
But by the fifth time, they already shamelessly joined the act, having four people join the Judgement Order. They knew that whenever this 'servant' appeared, another talent would join their clan.
And now, there was sixth time.
But what's with that doll?
"Ah! Your servant doesn't accept this! I cannot accept this injustice!" Mikhael continued to wail and sprout nonsense, "This servant was disfigured since childhood and had to cover his face, always suffering humiliation and curses — but I could accept them all! Even when called ugly and beaten, I could still accept everything because I had my kind mistress to protect me!"
"..."
Onlookers felt old, but seeing the clan playing along, they couldn't say anything either. Their neighbors had seen this drama so many times already that they even knew the script completely, Mikhael would only change minor details when spewing nonsense.
Even Natalie felt odd.
'When did I have disfigured servant? You're obviously handsome enough to charm gods!'
She gently stood up and patted him, as if comforting him — making many look at her with bewilderment. This doll could actually move? What is this?
"Ah, my kind mistress, there's no need to console this useless servant. Back then, they plotted against me in order to harm you, and it's only because of your benevolence that they only chased me away instead of taking my life," he sniffed, the onlookers wanted to beat him up.
Lying with such straight face you servant who were young and bullied in five lifetimes and chased away five times, do you know your skin is so thick you could build a wall around City of Evernight with it? Not even gods could penetrate that thickness!
"Luckily, this servant found out that I have some talent in spell-casting, so I could somehow survive, but what use is this power when I couldn't even protect my mistress?"
He suddenly screamed making even Desmond jump away from him in fright.
"I didn't know... I really couldn't imagine that by the time this useless servant gained some minor accomplishments, my mistress would be suffering terribly! She only hunted vile vampires and was forced to take a weapon when she was just a baby, unable to say a single word! But she still did it, yet couldn't harm innocent even when threatened!"
They realized which "young mistress" this was. There's only one Hunter who resonated with weapon while she was just a baby.
The crowd began to sweat.
'Another Esteemed Seat joined them! This fellow made hunters suffer again and converted another of their Esteemed Seats!'
"Who could know that those vile elders would use a spell on her to make her look like this, to torture her because she didn't listen to them? Ah, my pitiful mistress, how could you suffer like this? How did you wrong the world in your previous life for it to abandon you know?"
They all sucked on cold air.
Although they thought that he's lying, it's obvious that Natalie was that little doll over there?
"Your useless servant could luckily return to see you in time, but what should I do now? How could let those vile creatures off? I'm unwilling! Really unwilling!!!"
Many felt their blood boil because of his words. They were all vampires and now a hunter suffered because she was protecting their kind, not to mention their long grudge with Hunters — how could their blood not boil in rage?? Who cares if they're lie or not, they wanted to go out and have another bout of talking about life with those shameless Hunters. They knew about an Hunter who was made inheritor just when she was born, who could have a choice in that situation?!
"This... Little brother, you don't have to worry..." Desmond began to speak, but Mikhael used his bloodshot eyes to glare at him.
"Don't have to worry? How can I not worry when my mistress is stuck like this!? She can't even speak her grievances anymore!!!"
"..."
Desmond was speechless. This brother would always be deep in act that he was unable to extinguish reality from lies, he truly admired his skill.
They suddenly heard a gentle laugh.
"He's right. Young brother over there, you shouldn't worry about your mistress anymore, she'll surely return back to normal," a voice from inside the clan spoke. Mikhael turned before inwardly cursing seeing a smiling face. Isn't that one of his previous masters he also saved?
The rest of the Da clan also had weird expressions on their face when they saw situation escalate like this, but still said nothing.
"Really?" But Mikhael also continued with the act. It was too late to run now. With people looking for him around the city and plotting evil, why is someone from Judgement Order here leisurely watching drama!?
Then he heard another heartfelt laughter before stiffening. From inside the manor, an old grandpa slowly walked out with a stick to help him stand. He had a gentle smile like a doting grandfather that would never scold children, but Mikhael's lip twitched, almost cursing out lout this time.
"Indeed it's so, young friend. This doll curse is a spell made by an old villainous witch who mercilessly tortured a young man she couldn't obtain. But the effects of this spell aren't long, your mistress should soon turn back to normal."
As he said those words, Mikhael almost wanted to stand up and argue with him.
'How dare you call my disciple old villainous witch? That man deserved every stab she made on that doll!'
But he didn't dare.
Not in front of this person.
Not in front of the current head of Judgement Order, precisely that oldest living vampire among their ranks.
The person Mikhael saw as his true grandfather.
"..."
And the person he's been running away from for quite some time now.
But, ah! Who could tell him — why is even such a lofty character so free to come to this clan and watch drama? Where did he go wrong? Why does everyone know his movement better than he himself as of lately!?
