cHAptER 27: His rAgE [UntiL nOw, HE Was nEvER trULU sEriOUs] WHOEVER THE person that set their eyes on Mikhael was, although the later did feel a faint killing intent — after being warned by Ethan, Mikhael was always vigilant so he chose to ignore the person for now. The only reason he avoided fighting at the moment is purely because Cera would be dragged into this fight with him, and he wasn't willing to harm her. Since the later party would aim for Mikhael, then as long as he's alone and looks vulnerable, it should be enough to force their hand, no? "What shall we have for today, but really?" Mikhael hummed to himself as he began to cook whatever he got his hands on. As long as it's nutritional, it should be fine. Cera is a growing child after all and Mikhael... Well, he's a glutton. And a lost case. In the end he fried omelette with diced tomatoes, bacon, cheese stuffed chicken wings, a salad, french fries, yogurt, pancakes, noodles to go with the chicken and a fresh juice. Ethan did say that he isn't poor, so Mikhael didn't hesitate. As of to whether this will make either of the two have a stomachache... Well, Mikhael was too lazy to worry about that. Cera didn't complain either. She ate what she could and left everything else to Mikhael, or asked him to pack something for lunch later in case he's not there to make more. "Should we leave something for Tyl-Tyl?" She asked only after she was full. Mikhael sneered. "He can live off blood, just ignore him. It's below his vampire standards to eat normal food," in fact, Ethan didn't mind eating food either, especially the one made by Mikhael — it's just that he usually eats Mikhael's share, so the later bore grudges. "Makes sense," she nodded, not really bothering to understand him. She found that Mikhael was the only person in entire city complaining about Ethan, so she didn't take his words too seriously. Who knows which part of it was an actual truth... "You should probably stay here for the next few days," Mikhael remembered the situation outside. Although Cera was a human, there was a school in Eden for kids too. The naturally born baby vampires grew like normal humans until their parents gave them their own blood to awaken them, so they too needed some kind of education. They'd just be stronger than ordinary kids, and would prefer bloody steaks and such — they could also feed on blood before turned, but it won't give them any strength. In that sense, they are somewhat similar to half-bloods, but their both parents are vampires, so they can't remain human forever. Their lifespan is extremely short unless they become turned and they can't even live until twenty. They also grow twice as fast as usual humans, so by the time they turn ten or fifteen, their parents turn them. The newly turned vampire then would usually be locked in the house for another decade or two until they learn how to control themselves properly — but it's also rare for vampires to conceive. It usually takes a century of hard work or so. Really hard work. Cera also went to the same school those brats go before they're turned and since she was Ethan's niece, no one dared to touch her. But that's only if they didn't plan to destroy this city like those certain troublemakers. Mikhael would rather have her stay here next to him and Ethan instead of going outside. Even though she has some Noble guarding her, could a Noble deal with another stronger Noble or a witch? "Trouble?" Mikhael nodded. Cera has been living with Ethan for a while, and it's not like the situation Mikhael encountered when he arrived in Eden was the first of those riots. She already got used to being kept in the castle when there was an unrest outside. "Nothing too serious," in any case, it won't be once Mikhael dealt with it, "You don't need to worry too much. There will be more stronger people like Ethan here, so just spend days sleeping and eating like me." She threw him a contemptuous look. "I need to study too." "..." "Hyperactive midget." Mikhael would never be able to understand those who have the will to work. "You're just a sloth, big brother," but she didn't mind it. It's because Mikhael wasn't so serious that she could see him as an older brother and befriend him, unlike other vampires working for Ethan. "Yes, yes, a profitable decision on my end," he smiled, "What shall we do today, we can't annoy Ethan, unfortunately?" "You aren't going to stay with Tyl-Tyl?" She was used to seeing the two always together, "Come to think of it, he's not with you today? Did he oversleep?" Mikhael rolled his eyes — as if that guy ever sleeps! "He's busy, his siblings came so he'll stick with them for a while instead," which means — 'we can go make trouble as much as we want today, no one will be there to interrupt us.' Cera also understood that point. Although Ethan let her do whatever she wants, he was strict with some things. And he always takes Mikhael away so she's bored. "Let's play hide-and-seek?" Mikhael frowned, "Can I hide?" "..." "How about we do something that doesn't really require us to move too much?" "..." "Like compete to see who'll take a longer nap?" "..." "No? Alright, what else do you want to do?" Cera suddenly realized that maybe she wasn't as lucky as she originally thought. "How about we draw instead?" "You know how to draw?" "I have my own art supplies, and I saw you before drawing something on a yellow paper so you can't say you don't know how to do it," Mikhael was speechless. But drawing doesn't require moving around so it should do. As for her seeing him... Should be when he was making talismans or something. "Alright, we can do that. Let this big brother teach you something cool to beat people up," would Cera have the potential to become a spell-caster? "We're just going to draw, am I supposed to use my pen to stab people?" She mumbled to herself as she went upstairs to get her tools. Mikhael only imagined a little girl running around and stabbing people in their legs with a pen or slapping them with a board. That's not a bad idea, actually. When it comes to old vampires, they're really good at fighting and martial arts, but if you pull out a street lamp or TV to beat them up, it's quite likely that nor even they knew how to fight that way. Or if you used pots with flowers or a brick or tile. "It would appear that I wasted my entire life," imagine throwing a brick-shapped AV weapon at a vampire — they'd just try to brush it away without care. But then it touches their hand and they burn and die or something. Maybe make it grow spikes upon collision? "What a waste, really," that he's no longer affiliated with Hunters HQ so he can't have those weapons custom made for free. It was at that moment that his eyes twitched. He could smell the sweet scent of blood not that far from him. Since he fed earlier, it didn't affect him as much, but there was something really wrong with it. Vampires could sense some things from the blood, whether the person was good or evil and such — it was weird to put it in words. It's something only vampires could understand, and naturally there are some who only target a specific group that suits their taste. Mikhael had no qualms about what kind of blood he drank as long as he could have food, but he naturally would prefer a better tasting food if he could. But this... This blood is too pure. Not to mention that there's something familiar calling out to him from it that it made his chest ache in pain. Cera. The only person that should have that kind of blood here would be Cera. Within a single second his eyes morphed to their true red color, his hand gripped the table so hard that it snapped in two while his fangs elongated. Before the two halves of that table fell on the ground, Mikhael immediately disappeared from the kitchen — making those two halves pause in the air almost like some bizarre force kept them in place. Is if playing a broken record where the action got delayed by a second, it was only in the next moment that everything in the kitchen got swept away through the window by the strong wind caused with Mikhael's insane speed. Mikhael had only made two steps that carried him over two hundred meters away when he saw the scene that made his sight turn red with rage. There, on the stair leading to the floor with Cera's room a female vampire held a child in her arms, with her teeth having sunk deep within her neck. Cera's eyes were empty as it was obvious that she was no longer conscious. Suggestion. Blank eyes that would appear on the person that's been put under suggestion, but... Blood. There was too much blood around Cera. The female vampire wasn't just feeding on her. At that moment, once she noticed Mikhael, the female vampire finally raised her head before throwing him a wicked grin — but she oddly didn't have a speck of blood on her compared to her surroundings. She obviously did this on purpose, Mikhael didn't need to think more as he kicked off the ground with speed too fast for the woman to follow before appearing next to her. With one hand he grabbed her head while she was still stunned using other to take Cera from her grasp. Once he safely got Cera from that b***h, he put all his strength in his right leg before sending a kick at her throat. "You—" but she couldn't say anything else as his kick completely crushed her neck before Mikhael finally let go of her, then kicked her once again. Although those two kicks seemed simple, the air all around them distorted before destroying everything in its wake, and the woman got sent flying into the wall in the next moment. Still, Mikhael used quite bit strength as she didn't stop there, but continued to break one wall after another until she was quite some distance away from the two. Mikhael only then calmed down before crouching down and making Cera rest on his lap. She was still breathing, but she lost too much blood, so he needs to replenish it as soon as possible. Mikhael didn't hesitate to bite his wrist before moving it in front of her mouth, using his other hand to pry her lips open. The blood poured down her throat, but she didn't make any movement of swallowing making him somewhat worried. Even when unconscious, people's throat would swallow water or whatever was in mouth on instinct, but Cera's body didn't follow that norm. "Flame," he heard Ethan's voice, but didn't turn to look at him. He was aware that he should've raised quite a commotion outside — people who gathered here were all quite powerful. They'd probably sense Cera's blood even if Mikhael did nothing, after all — that b***h made sure to spill as much of her blood as possible. Mikhael couldn't bother to worry about who she is, he simply assumed that she's with those guys who plotted to attack Eden. "Blood, give me your blood!" His own was not enough, he needed something stronger. Ethan only nodded taking a glance at the bloody scene before crouching down and holding out his hand. He didn't ask what happened, from the looks of the wall next to them, Mikhael obviously dealt with the problem already. As of Cera, he didn't suspect that Mikhael was the one who had attacked her. He's already been with Mikhael for a while and he knew that the two shared a close bond, not to mention that Mikhael wasn't someone who'd lose control easily — not to mention that he fed already. But unfortunately, those behind him didn't know all that about Mikhael, so they couldn't help but be suspicious when they saw this scene. Ethan watched as she ignored his blood as well, her blank eyes suddenly pulsated with an odd glow as he irises began to change color, gaining a red tint that slowly began to spread. Both Ethan and Mikhael froze at that sight. She was changing. "Flame..." If she was an ordinary human then it would be alright, but this... "f**k!" Mikhael cursed before he glared at the place where he kicked that woman. Ethan followed his gaze and his lips pulled into a thin line when he saw who walked out of there. It was a woman dressed up as secretary, but he appearance seemed a bit wretched. She also had a wronged expression as she looked at Ethan, while a man followed behind her with an angry look in his eyes before his gaze settled on Mikhael. Then he threw Ethan a mocking look as the woman began to speak. "Lord Ethan, you must help me!" Mikhael's lips pulled into a cruel smile. Good, she's still alive. He even began to fear that he accidentally killed her, but the man behind her... 'I see.' He was naive. Naive to think that he'd be the only target. He wanted to slap himself at that moment. How come he's making the same mistake this time as well? The others who saw the two also had weird expressions on their faces. The man who followed after her looked like a bodybuilder. Mikhael had no other words to describe him other than he had muscles and despicable face be couldn't help but want to thoroughly pummel. "What is this, Sixth? Is this how you greet you guests?" He sneered as Ethan's face became covered with frost. He also had an urge to punch this bastard. The Fifth Pureblood. Tristan — a bastard who only loved to kill. In Mikhael's data on Purebloods, he's the madman who wants to take over the world. "Ethan, can I kill?" Mikhael didn't care who the other party was. He would still attack, but for the sake of keeping his sanity intact, he decided to let Ethan stop him if he went too far. Mikhael rarely got angry, but when he did... "Leave one breath of life left," Ethan spat out as he stood up. If they were alone with the two, he could easily kill them, but now... Although Purebloods joked about killing each other, they would never really allow for one to die. That rule is especially important if it's a half-blood they were talking about. And that woman was one. The one that was deeply infatuated with Ethan too. Yelena. "I, my Lord, please you must help me! I just arrived here when I smelled blood and went to see what was going on!" She pitifully wailed, "But then I saw this guy attacking the little girl and wanted to help her, but I didn't expect that he's so strong." Compared to Mikhael who was covered with Cera's blood and had his own all over his lips, she didn't have even a drop of it on her. Mikhael furrowed his brow in confusion, he broke her throat, didn't he? So where did all that blood go? Hemomancy? A half-blood capable of using it, at that? 'Troublesome.' "My, my, what do I see there?" Tristan took a step in front of her while Ethan did the same putting Mikhael behind him. "Fifth, you have some guts to make trouble in my place," Ethan spat out, "An incompetent attention w***e as always, I see." "..." The tension between the two parties was so thick it could be cut with knife as silence reigned around. This was the first time Ethan used foul language to deal with Tristan whom he usually ignored no matter what he did. It made spectators not know whether to act or not. Although they suspected Mikhael who said nothing in his defense, they were somewhat used to Tristan provoking Ethan, so anything goes. "Say that again!" Tristan grit his teeth as Mikhael stood up with Cera in his arms. "He said that you're an incompetent w***e, are you also deaf slow-witted muscle-brain at that as well?" His tongue was more poisonous than Ethan's who really doesn't look suited for cursing. "..." "You shouldn't waste words on trash like them, Flame," Ethan gently added making the later stumble on his own feet. Mikhael's built-up momentum was broken just like that. But he was in no mood to joke around. At that moment, Amelia and Dominique arrived drawn by the commotion, leaving their own quarrel behind. "Oh, even the Second arrived? What a lovely family reunion we have here," Tristan sneered, "But some meddlesome nobody chose to impede us with his presence. Tell me our Second Brother, what is the punishment for a lowly vampire insulting a Pureblood? Or the same vampire attacking a half-blood with intention to kill?" "..." 'What happened?' Dominique left those people for like few minutes, why are they trying to kill each other? "...Death," he glanced around before his gaze settled on Mikhael. No, to be more precise on a figure in Mikhael's hands. "But," he looking at their posture, he could figure some things out. Mikhael wouldn't attack a child, Dominique saw the fate of vampires who killed children once Mikhael got his hands on them, "Mikhael is a Pureblood's partner. So he shouldn't be exempted from that punishment." Tristan clenched his teeth before looking at Cera with a sly smile. "But for a vampire who turns a child?" "Why are you blabbering all this nonsense, of course it's to be executed," another person spoke up and they all turned to him. "First," Dominique sighed. "Second," he smiled, "I really didn't expect to see you, out of all people, here." His partner turned to look at Mikhael and the girl in his hands with a pondering look, he was nothing like a lazy person from earlier. "Some things happened..." "Get rid of the child and that man before we continue our family reunion." "Wait! Mikhael didn't do it." Although Dominique wanted to bury Mikhael and all, if the later was in serious trouble, he'd be the first person who'd jump in to save him. "My Lord, he did it, I swear! I saw it with my own eyes, why don't you trust me!?" Yelena began to panic. s**t, what is this? She clearly read that Mikhael was just a recently turned nobody, why is the Second Pureblood protecting him? And why doesn't her Lord Ethan suspect him but instead allowed him to attack her. What did he say earlier? Leave her with just a breath left? She even went as far as to use suggestion to make the girl say it was Mikhael who attacked her once she woke up! "Since we're throwing those questions here and there, then what of a half-blood that turns child into a vampire?" Mikhael suddenly spoke up, he didn't put this First Pureblood in his eyes. Amelia never really went all-out when dealing with Dominique, but the first Seven Seats were trained to be able to stand their ground with Purebloods. The First Seat is somewhat special so his Seat is certain even if someone stronger appears which is why Amelia is still a Second, but she absolutely has the power to keep the First one busy. Mikhael didn't doubt that she'd come to aid him if it really comes to fight. His only problem was Ethan, it was more of a psychological weakness than actual strength why he'd lose to this guy. Mikhael wasn't sure why he cannot bring himself to fight Ethan, but... "It's fine, I trust you." ...hearing this bastard say those words really makes him unable to act. It was so frustrating. It's Mikhael's policy to never abandon people first, and even though Ethan was an asshole when he originally met him and Mikhael extremely weakened — now, that he's been properly nurtured with Ethan's blood, he still felt like back then when he met this guy. Unable to act. And extremely frustrated. Did he say how frustrated he was because of Ethan already? He was like the kind of person you want to hate, but just... CAN'T! He went next to Amelia before handing over Cera to her. Amelia only took the girl before her eyes widened — Mikhael could feel her complicated gaze mixed with anger, worry and something unknown, but he had no time to worry about her now. "Wait for bit," he touched Cera's forehead, "It won't take long." Turning around, he pulled out his two Bloody Hydrangeas making Amelia unconsciously take a step back. He was serious this time. "Well, the half-bloods are special case, so I assume you're just going to ignore what she did. In fact, it might even be easier for you to just shift the blame to me to save her head." He threw a quick glance. "You really didn't change a bit from back then." Mikhael had some dealings with this guy in the past, but back then his position was the First Seat, and he wore a mask. He didn't care if ordinary vampires saw his face, but Purebloods are something else. "Do I know you?" Mikhael's lips curled upwards, "Perhaps." "On that note, I see you have something against me, it was you earlier who spied on me, right?" That faint killing intent from earlier, without a doubt belonged to this woman. Yelena clenched her teeth. This wasn't supposed to go like this. This vampire, this nobody... How dares he oppose her?! "So, here I am. You're a half-blood and I'm just an ordinary vampire," the more he spoke the more Amelia retracted. s**t. This wasn't the place to cause trouble, but... As she glanced at the child in her arms, Amelia hardened her gaze, along with her resolve. "I, I... That's nonsense. Why are you making me look like a bad guy here!?" Mikhael smiled, unlike previous times when he openly showed hostility, this smile was probably his most innocent and pure-looking smile he showed that woman. It was so warm it was almost blinding. In his eyes, only the prey existed at this moment. "Let the two of us have a duel, what do you say? If you can kill me, then so be it," he put the two guns together and the hydrangea symbol on them glowed before the guns began to change shape, elongating into a thin white blade with no handle. "Flame!" "Nonsense! Why would I—" He cut her off again. There was no Ethan, no Purebloods, no half-bloods around him. "Nobody will blame you, and well — you'll have what you want." There was no Amelia, Cera wasn't injured. Ethan wasn't worried about him. Only this woman. Her every expression, every movement, every hidden emotion... "I'm sure nobody will protest if we settle our problem this way, without making a ruse." How beautiful would it look like if he stripped her off them all? If he thoroughly destroyed her until death becomes her only salvation?
