"IT WOULD be for the best if we split," Mikhael said as he didn't hesitate to proceed forward. Their cargo was somewhere in the middle of the train, and there were six more passenger and one goodies' cargo left, not to mention the other parts in front where kitchen and ordinary staff were stationed.
Mikhael chose to head in front, for that's where the explosion came from earlier, and where were more people. He originally thought that Natalie was a problem, but those six men weren't hunters. Vampires would never move like this just for the sake of exterminating a Higher Noble.
Mikhael had witnessed fee fights between those existences, but none of them would actually attack this train that's one of the few ways to enter the City of Evernight.
Forget about Higher Nobles, if a Pureblood found out that someone was brazen enough to kill this much of important people on their way to the City of Evernight, those people won't be able to survive their wrath! Whether it's a train arriving empty of passengers or it being stopped on the road, it would take no longer than a day to catch those people. This zone is also patrolled by various nobles and vampires, so just that explosion earlier alone should be enough to alert them.
He originally thought that only hunters we're interested in him, but now...
Something didn't match.
Mikhael could often pretend to be ignorant of some things and sometimes he might really have some misgivings on certain situations, but he wasn't a fool.
Therefore, as he opened the doors and headed for the next cargo, he began to think properly about this situation. He didn't even have time to take a notice of the scenery passing in blur around him as he crossed over with ease.
Other than Handsome, Mikhael was also on this ride. When the old geezer asked him to get rid of someone and intercept their trade back then, he didn't mention the details — but Mikhael did hear that the person was heading for the City of Evernight, carrying something.
And didn't Mikhael perfectly fit that criteria?
He didn't think that it was about him at first, because his dealings with Dante was something only the two of them knew, and he trusted in Dante's character. Not to mention that what he's about to hand over was incomplete and worthless product that not even Mikhael put in his eyes. Didn't Hunters HQ already have a barrier around their base that prevented vampires from entering?
Alas, it was somewhat useless on Mikhael.
Anyway, why would they be interested in something that literally worked the same, only from the other side?
But now, there were even vampires involved, and they didn't hesitate to silence other of their kind.
His heart skipped a beat.
"Perhaps..."
Someone spread information, but they exaggerated some parts? Or Dante planned to do something more than protect City of Evernight he didn't know?
Mikhael didn't ask Dante about his plans, he just created this in exchange for his blood — as simple as that.
But those vampires from earlier... How could they act like this unless they had someone to back them up?
Another Pureblood?
Mikhael thought that it's quite possible. Purebloods aren't as united as the world thought. Dante always complained about them whenever he escaped over at Mikhael's place.
Mikhael had no idea how he always managed to find him.
He tapped on the ground, sensing a bunch of people hidden behind those doors, as well as another group cornered in the opposite corner. There were also four people in each of four cabins.
They didn't kill the targets?
Why?
Could it be that they only wanted to deal with the part in Mikhael's cargo or they just didn't have enough time?
No, they killed them one by one over there, but grouped them here. Mikhael's gaze turned complicated for a moment.
In that case, those people died just because they were on the same cargo as him?
No.
He shouldn't think like that.
The one responsible for this mess is the one who gave the command. Moreover, Mikhael should be happy that other people were still alive.
Still, just to be safe, he pulled out a red talisman. He didn't plan to spare them today. He plastered them on the doors and waited for three seconds before opening them.
He immediately slashed with his blade, yet before it even reached for the person's neck , he suddenly paused before his eyes turned colder. The terrified eyes stared at him with begging expression, they mouths sealed and their hands tied. When Mikhael noticed that the same was with the other group of people, who were grouped together and tied to the doors with an odd ability, he realized what was going on.
Those bastards, they even dared to go this far?!
Mikhael turned around to Ethan who still didn't move and was looking at him through open doors. He stepped aside to see the other party see what was going on, and Ethan's lips curled into a cruel smile before he nodded.
How can he not realize the same thing?
Seeing the other party's cautiousness, Ethan no longer feared for Mikhael's safety. He turned around and proceeded to the other side of the train.
He also wondered about the same thing as Mikhael, how would those people escape even if they dealt with them? Vampires who would come to their aid would notice something odd the moment they got close to the doors, so they would attack without hesitation.
By then, the person who kept them immobile would immediately remove his bindings, and as those people turned to dust, who would be able to understand what was going on. By the time someone realized a mistake with the list of passengers and actual people who arrived, they'd already be scattered all over the City of Evernight, and impossible to find.
As for those who died, how can dead people speak their grievances?
He grew even more certain that this all was orchestrated by Constantine.
Still, as Mikhael pulled his fingers to his lips to tell those people to keep quiet — though they already couldn't move because of that talisman he used earlier — he silently closed the doors behind him, obstructing Ethan's sight.
At that moment, Ethan sighed as well.
There was no longer a need to hide his ability. He simply opened the doors before exuding pressure on the entire cabin, and then leisurely walked inside.
Vampire were unable to move because Mikhael used restriction-type talisman earlier, but what about Ethan? Although he wasn't particularly fond of using it, he just directly suppressed all vampires through his blood. But he only directed this pressure to this cargo, so neither Mikhael nor other people noticed anything wrong.
He was met with the similar situation inside, those people in front of him were just ordinary passengers forced to act like their meat-shields. Their gazes held fear and reverence at the same time, they were all Nobles here so they clearly understood who this person in front of them was.
But...
Did he come here to deal with them?
They can't be wrong in thinking that, those that attacked them were all Higher Nobles, and those guys served directly under Purebloods.
Yet, as they felt the pressure on them lessen and saw Ethan walk to a nearby cabin before opening the doors, they all became joyful instead.
Lord Pureblood came to save them!
They didn't even wonder why he came here in the first place.
On the contrary, those people inside wore expressions full of terror as they tried to say something, but were unable to even make a sound under Ethan's suffocating gaze.
"Since you dared to commit atrocities on those grounds, you should naturally be prepared to die for your sins as well," he calmly spoke, like those people were no different than ants despite being Higher Nobles.
They began to sweat profusely as they tried to speak even harder, but in the end their bodies suddenly bloated before exploding without a noise. Yet, before any of blood droplets reached Ethan's white suit, they immediately turned into an ordinary ash. Ethan only frowned before stepping out and heading to the next cabin.
However, in addition to Higher Nobles, there was another person who wasn't paralyzed from feat making him raise an eyebrow.
"A spell-caster?" Although the other person had no idea who Ethan was, he still didn't panic despite his allies being immobile.
"So?" The other guy calmly spoke, not putting him in his eyes at all.
"You're responsible for the people outside unable to move?" Then, should there be another one where Mikhael was? Would that little spell-caster be able to deal with him?
No, he was good at combat, Ethan personally witnessed that part. Not to mention that he saw that red talisman Mikhael took out.
That person should be pretty capable despite his looks.
"So what if I am?"
"..."
Why was he getting bullied by all kinds of brats lately? Was his identity and aura of presence something for dogs to swallow?
"You should be careful about who you want to deal with," that guy continued making Ethan's eye twitch, "The person who hired me is not someone you, a vampire, could afford to offend."
"..."
Ethan only sighed as the three vampires in the cabin, who originally looked at this guy with bewilderment and panic, boosted and exploded.
"You!" He abruptly stood up, "Do you know who is behind me? A Sixth Pureblood! How can you offend one of your leaders!"
"..."
Was there something wrong with this person's brain?
And...
Wasn't he precisely the Sixth Pureblood?
Alright, his prestige seems to have some use, after all. But still...
What is this? Was Constantine trying to draw a wedge between him and Dante?
"What? Afraid, aren't you? Humph, as long as you serve me well from now on—" Ethan no longer had patience to spare on this guy. He immediately grabbed his neck making other party's eyes go wide.
"You—"
"I don't recall having such an useless subordinate," and then he simply crushed his neck. Even as he died, they guy's eyes were wide in bewilderment.
How could this person be here?
Ethan had no time to spar as he continued further, ignoring the voices of gratitude from the passengers he saved.
Even involving his name in this mess, if he didn't come here personally, then who knows what would happen in the end? Although Dante trusted him, but what of that spell-caster who would think that this attack was orchestrated by him?
On the other hand, Mikhael coldly stared at the person nailed to the wall with his blade. His blood flew to the ground in an orderly manner before forming an odd circle and then disappeared into the ground.
"This meticulous?" Those people were being used even in their deaths.
The person responsible for this mess was truly meticulous in his planning. And this guy also said the same thing to Mikhael like the other guy did to Ethan. They were paralyzed because of his spell, but they could still talk.
The effect of this spell naturally had the same effect on this young spell-caster as well, who simply had no time nor skill to ward off Mikhael's red talisman. He probably didn't even notice Mikhael scanning this cargo earlier.
"Sixth Pureblood?" He frowned, his eyes turning into slits as he licked his lips.
"Although this spell-caster had some ability, someone on his level wouldn't be able to even make the most basic AV weapons in Hunters HQ, so how could he be able to proclaim himself to be a Sixth Pureblood's subordinate?" Mikhael naturally consider that the other party lied, but even if it really was as he said, Mikhael wasn't afraid.
"What's that Sixth Dumblord? Is he any stronger than a Vampire King?" He disdainfully stared at this corpse before moving out to the next part of the train, "I'll probably squash him to death with a single slap as well."
Existence on that level is even lower than a vampire king, how could Mikhael possibly fear him.
Still, just as he tapped on the ground once again and sensed the situation inside, Mikhael paused before immediately storming in.
There, a lone figure drenched in blood stood on guard in front of Mikhael, a bounded crowd behind her. There was another person with his back turned to Mikhael arrogantly throwing talismans at her, while she desperately used her blood to draw some symbols on the ground which soon turned into layers and layers of protective shield.
"..."
Another generation of outstanding Esteemed Seats seems to have fallen, but...
Mikhael flashed in front of that person, before decisively cutting off his neck. The other party didn't even notice Mikhael and died in confusion, seemingly unaware that his head was no longer on his body.
He then turned to Natalie who was using her body to protect a bunch of bound vampires, their bodies became free to move as soon as he killed that guy, and Natalie finally sighed in relief before fainting.
"You did a good job," he praised before kneeling down, he took out an odd black talisman that only had a detailed drawing of a doll.
She fell as a vampire hunter, but Mikhael can't say that he hated her for that. Ah, in any case, the vampire part of her family would be really pleased to learn about her existence as well, no?
Then he tore the last layer of protection with ease like it was an ordinary paper before placing the black talisman on her forehead. Her body immediately shone with grey light before retracting bit by bit, until it finally turned into a small doll the size of his hand.
He only casually picked her up before putting her in his picked and then turned to the group in front of him, thinking that they were really lucky.
"The two cargoes behind me are safe to stay. Reinforcement should arrive soon, so you don't have to be afraid anymore. We'll deal with this on our own, so please stay calm until you see people come to protect you," then he stood up and proceeded forward.
He still had many people left to save, but looking at the little doll in his pocket, Mikhael lamented.
How come he always ends up saving some troublesome fellows?
