MIKHAEL'S CURIOSITY was shifted to this guy instead.
There's a reason, he as a half-blood avoided those pure fuckers. There were countless terrible rumors about their treatment, some which included them being hanged of a ceiling with their blood being collected 24/7 in big tanks before it was sent to create armies of super vampires.
If it were someone else, Mikhael would've shrugged those rumors as a joke, but there were just rumors about half-bloods being seen next to a Pureblood, no one even confirmed their existence with their two eyes, so people assumed that they were locked somewhere or whatnot.
So, for Mikhael to see a living half-blood that looked quite rosy and healthy, he was quite surprised indeed.
"Is there, perhaps, something on my face?" Jonathan asked and Mikhael unconsciously nodded. Diana on side was about to crackle her knuckles and beat Mikhael up when he answered.
"You're... Lively? And not-so-drained of blood, I guess?"
Gossips are useless and rumors can't be trusted - although Mikhael knew that, his seventh sense for seeking death was too strong for him to ignore them.
Diana slowly lowered her hands before glancing at Ethan. Her expression gave that what-the-f**k-is-this-thing vibe and Ethan only sighed.
Idiot's train of thoughts, really can't be understood.
"Yes?" Jonathan's calm face showed confusion for the first time in like a century. "Should it, perhaps, be the opposite?"
Mikhael nodded once again, immersed in his thoughts.
"I heard it should."
He said that with so much confidence that even Ethan had to twitch at those words. What should he do with this i***t?
"Oh? What else did you hear?"
Even Diana perked her ears. She too, had a soul of gossiper like Mikhael, it's just that her and Mikhael's sources of gossips were heaven and earth apart.
"Locked in a basement, tortured with whips on the ground full of needles that sucked your blood, humiliated with various S&M methods, don't see the light of the day, starved and forced to beg for food, hanged upside down from a ceiling with various tubes sucking your blood dry... Should I continue?" He completely disregarded two Purebloods that are supposed to be villains in that story by his side.
He was really curious, ah!
Even with his skills, he never got to see a half-blood with how protected they were. He did see few other Purebloods, though. In fact, there was that one time when he and Dominique were in the same city as another Pureblood so the two snack out together to see that guy from close.
How naive of Mikhael, he did think it was too easy, why didn't he suspect Dominique that day? Sly bastard!
'Hm, wait a moment. Dominique's a Pureblood too, so...'
"Those rumors, who exactly did you hear them from?" Jonathan's eyebrow twitched like crazy as Mikhael furrowed his eyebrows.
Honestly... He heard most of it from human hunters in Hunters HQ back then... And some from Dominique. f**k, that guy really was no good, he should've just poisoned him back then! As for hunters... Well, they did hate vampires, so those rumors really might've been too much - still Mikhael believed them. In any case, he too was curious as to why he never saw another half-blood.
"Various..." mentally handicapped, "...people."
Ethan and Diana exchanged glances.
'Why don't I know about this side of the story?' — her eyes asked.
'How the f**k am I supposed to answer that? This is the first time I hear of it too!' — his gaze answered.
"You do know I'm a half-blood, right?" So basically, he won't be bullied easily.
Mikhael only beckoned to him with his hand. The later leaned down as Mikhael whispered.
"But Purebloods are crafty, ah."
The two Purebloods next to him: "..."
'Can you not pretend like we aren't here?!'
"Indeed they are," however, Jonathan didn't help at all by agreeing with those words.
"Right, right?"
Mikhael felt like he found another of his various soul-mates.
"Still, aren't you interested in me?" Jonathan couldn't help but ask. He was used to every single person that met him to look at him in greed or pity or even try to please him in every way possible or try to get acquainted with him. So this boy who suddenly asked him why isn't he tortured first thing they met was quite fresh experience to him.
In fact, the reason Diana beat people up is simple: they all targeted Jonathan one way or another. The two of them are Blood Partners too, so she would naturally protect him from people who bully him. It's also why she wanted to beat Mikhael up just now when he stared at Jonathan for a while.
"Why should I?"
"..."
Mikhael was also a half-blood, why should he be curious about another of his kin or revere him? He's even older than this guy!
"Don't you... Desire my power?"
'Will it help me sleep easier?'
"Why should I?"
If you're powerful, you're targeted and cannot sleep or laze around, always having to worry about being attacked. A simple life where no one knows about you where you can sleep as much as you want is Mikhael's life goal. It's why he avoided Purebloods too!
"..."
Jonathan suddenly felt like he didn't exist on the same wavelength as this vampire.
"Don't you desire to be powerful? On top?"
Mikhael only pointed at Ethan.
"Why would I bother with such a troublesome thing. And... I already have the most powerful aide by my side," who dares to bully Mikhael with Ethan around? Moreover, it's always those on top that are targets of assassinations and such.
What a joke, if there are people targeting Mikhael, how could he sleep peacefully?
"..."
Jonathan had nothing else to say to his words.
Diana only turned to Ethan and nodded in daze. That nod was supposed to mean "you chose well" or something, she really wanted to sit down and calm down. What a weird vampire. But he did make sense. But still a weirdo.
Ethan was, on the other hand, quite satisfied when Mikhael mentioned him, but he still felt that this crazy thing was being silly once again.
"Flame," he beckoned to the later who turned to him. Then he flicked his forehead making him crouch down while holding his now red forehead, a habit Ethan grew fond of as of lately.
"Shall we continue inside," Ethan couldn't do anything about Mikhael anyway.
"Oh, let us join the party then," another voice joined in as Dominique appeared with Amelia by his side. Surprisingly, the first thing he did wasn't to greet his siblings nor Jonathan, but to laugh at Mikhael.
"Hahaha, look at you so miserably crawling on the ground, you deserved it you stupid brat!"
"..."
To his provocation, Mikhael only calmly stood up, dusted his clothes then looked at Amelia.
"Amelia, my good friend — not that I pity someone as valiant as you, but... Purebloods have half-bloods as their Blood Partners, and your husband is a Second Pureblood. He too has a half-blood working for him, and I'm sure you're smart so... What do you think he's hiding from you?"
There's someone better for trashing Dominique's poor ass than Mikhael.
"..."
It took only two seconds from Diana's face to stomach the word "husband", Ethan to sigh, Dominique's face to grow ugly and Amelia to take out her weapon and shot at him.
"Mikhael, you motherfucker, weren't we friends?!"
"You cheating son of a b***h, you dared?!"
Mikhael never had things he needed in his void, but if it's popcorn... He casually pulled out a pack of popcorn before happily sitting down and eating a mouthful of it.
'Heh, you fucker. That's what you get for laughing at other people's misfortune!'
Ethan only glanced at Mikhael.
"Mikhael?"
"Yes?" He instinctively replied, focusing at Amelia aiming her gun at Dominique's crotch while he tried to explain that he's not into that kind of relationship with his half-blood partner and throw a curse or two at Mikhael in the meantime, but would she still listen? Would Mikhael pay attention to his threats with Ethan around?
Of course not!
"Not Khael?"
Mikhael only then raised his head at Ethan and realized that he was asking about his name the previous time.
"A nickname..."
"..."
I'm any case, you're the one who chose that other stupid nickname for me, not even bothering to find out my real name, why are you staring at me with that look in your eyes?
"Nickname, you say?"
Mikhael could only nod. What else he should say? So he chose to ignore Ethan for now as he ate another mouthful of popcorn. Watching Dominique run for his life with popcorn in hand first thing in the morning really was the best way to start one's day.
"Husband? What is this thing I hear?" Diana chose to ask Ethan who seemed as the most reliable person around here at the moment.
"Ho, so the previous time you let your tongue loose, it wasn't an accident? You really do have a side b***h, you cheating scum?!"
"No, dear. Mon Cheri, liebling, mi amore, I do not dare, really I don't!" He replied while avoiding her bullets, "Even if I had ten lives I still wouldn't dare..."
"So you're saying you don't have one just because you're afraid of me? Am I that scary to you? So if I was an easygoing person, you'd dare?"
Dear God, Mikhael must say he taught Amelia well, especially the wordplay.
"No, no, no I wouldn't! I wouldn't! You're the only one for me!"
"So you're still keeping a side b***h by your side? How am I the only one then!"
Yup, good job Amelia! Don't let his words sway you!
"You are, I don't have anyone else! The other person is nothing serious!"
Amelia paused for a moment and just as everyone thought she'd finally calm down, she exploded even harder.
"You motherfucker, a mistress is kept aside because she's nothing serious too!"
"..."
Dominique also realized that his words sounded wrong, but it was already too late.
Mikhael had a feeling that this morning would be able to keep him happy for a very long, long time. In any case, the nearby Nobles and Ethan did nothing to help, they're already used to this poor excuse of a Pureblood groveling under his wife's feet.
Jonathan and Diana who had some quarrels here and there suddenly realized... That their own relationship wasn't as bad as they thought. They still haven't fallen as low as those two.
"It's as you see, big sis," Ethan then answered her previous question, "Second brother finally found someone to keep him in check."
"Still... A hunter?" She recognized those AV bullets, especially after some grazed Dominique's skin.
"Yes, he as well," Ethan said before lifting Mikhael up.
"Ah, what are you doing? It's getting to the good part!" The later obviously complained. This once in a lifetime opportunity, how can he dare miss out on it!
"You and I have some unfinished business, Mi-kha-el," he dangerously dragged on his name as Mikhael gulped. Surely, he isn't going to hold him responsible for that?
"Ethan, my fair king, didn't we already have a conversation about you being a magnanimous person with great heart to forgive?"
"I don't recall admitting that I'm that kind of person, though? Didn't you just say that we Purebloods are quite crafty?" Ethan raised an eyebrow before smiling at Diana, Mikhael finally realized where he messed up.
"You don't need to worry about second brother, she won't kill him and he also enjoys it being an "M", so come inside and relax with a cup of blood or something. I'll be right back."
Then he disappeared with Mikhael, leaving only those popcorn behind.
To those words, although Jonathan's eyebrow twitched in amazement, Diana only glanced at those popcorn before taking them, then sitting on Mikhael's previous place and enjoying the show.
After few seconds, she let out an exclamation.
"Ethan's partner has some good outlook on life. This is indeed a good show to watch." She also began to ponder, should she also pack some popcorn and carry around with her? It's not like she didn't see her share of entertainment while roaming the world with Jonathan.
"f**k! Diana, why aren't you helping me?" Dominique suddenly noticed her, but had no time to stand still as Amelia became even more vicious.
"You dare to ask another woman for help in front of me? What a good husband! Good, good, good!"
The more she repeated that word, the more danger Dominique felt.
"Mon Cheri, that's not it! She's just my sister..."
He felt like crying at that moment. Why couldn't he control himself and had to provoke that calamity? He already known that nothing good ever happens when Mikhael got involved, did he perhaps pick his death-seeking tendencies after being friends for three centuries?
"Ah, I don't know this shameless Casanova! I'm on your side, sister. Beat this cheating bastards good!" Anyway, she would lose if she fought Dominique, but it seems that he can't do anything against this wife of his, not even daring to retaliate. If she doesn't use this opportunity to vent out all those centuries worth of frustration, Diana would be an i***t.
Jonathan only helplessly sighed at her words, but sat next to her and joined her nonetheless.
They both were wretched people at the core, after all.
ALTHOUGH THERE was noise downstairs, it didn't bother Mikhael at Ethan at all for the next hour or so who were immersed in their own little world.
By the time they were done, Mikhael once again cursed his death-seeking tendencies. He felt good and all, but the original five hickeys multiplied by large margin now and he couldn't feel his legs anymore.
Right now he was taking a bath, unable to even sleep since it was morning and Ethan wouldn't let him stay cooped alone doing nothing. Yes Mikhael woke up around six hours ago, and still wanted to sleep.
"I still think Flame fits you better, so I'll stick with it," it was what he was met with the moment he stepped back in the room.
"Do as you please," Mikhael never put much importance on his name. After all, he's usually been undercover using an alias, so he's gotten used to it by now.
Still...
After what Mikhael found today, he became worried for Ethan. If things really are like the last time, Ethan is most likely to become the enemy's target.
He stared at Ethan who was in the middle of dressing up - he naturally showered before Mikhael who needed to be dragged out from the bed with force.
"Ethan... Give me some of your blood," in the end he sighed. Although he didn't feel too attached to Ethan for now, it's needless to say to Mikhael found him important in his life. Although he couldn't say what will happen in next year or ten or hundred, for now he liked those peaceful days spent with Ethan. So much that he didn't want anything bad to happen to him, if nothing else.
So he sat down on the bed and pulled out that silver case from his void.
"Alright," Ethan didn't ask anything and came closer to him. If he wants to feed, then let him.
"No, not for me. Your heart blood," Mikhael touched Ethan's naked chest before swallowing his saliva and the later only raised an eyebrow before moving closer — piecing his own chest with right hand. Taking out his now bloodied hand, Mikhael immediately pulled out a random cup from void to collect the blood dripping down his hand.
Seeing Ethan trust him so much that he didn't hesitate to do something so stupid, Mikhael felt like something got struck in his throat.
Heart blood was more valuable than ordinary blood. Not to mention that there's only a limited amount of it and it takes long to recover — it was deeply connected with vampire's vitality. Losing some might even weaken then, and although Mikhael knew what he asked for was unreasonable...
"Thanks," ...Since it's so, Mikhael cannot be stingy either.
Rummaging through the void, he pulled out a single brush and a sealed vial with red blood. The moment he took out that blood, even Ethan's impassive red eyes gleamed with indescribable lust.
Sweet. It was sweeter than anything he ever smelled. Somewhat gentle, yet somewhat angrily, something deep inside him stirred — it wanted to get that blood, to cherish it or drink it...
Find the source. He felt an odd longing towards the source of that blood, similar to when he first tasted Mikhael's blood.
His hand even instinctively moved towards it before he managed to come back and lower it.
"That's..." He asked, why would this blood make him so itchy?
"Heart blood... of a half-blood," Mikhael's, at that. He always collected some before going into Deep Slumber. In any case, he won't need it for a while, and once he reawakened, his entire body would change, so previously kept heart blood in his body would disappear only to be exchanged with new one.
What a waste would that be!
Not to mention that his blood was extremely good material for drawing strong talismans.
"I see," Ethan didn't ask once again, although he felt that there's something oddly familiar with that blood. Mikhael chose to take it out in front of him despite knowing that it's extremely valuable, so why would Ethan then bother to break that trust?
Mikhael secretly sighed in relief before pouring the content of that vial in the cup where Ethan's heart blood was. When the two groups of blood came together, there wasn't any weird reaction nor rejection making Mikhael a bit surprised.
Heart blood wasn't just your bunch of red cells and such, it had incredible power within.
A single drop of either blood would be enough to make a higher Noble from an ordinary vampire, so there would usually be some sort of rejection when two different groups mixed — and then, only a tiny bit would remain at the end of reaction.
"Oh, quite compatible," he mumbled to himself before dipping the brush in that blood and making Ethan hold that cup. Using his other hand, he opened the silver case before taking out two black cards.
He glanced at Ethan, two should be enough, right?
"If you could chose to empower your legs or arms, which would you chose?" He asked curiously.
"What do you think?" He asked instead. Mikhael frowned, he would've rather chosen his legs so that he can run faster if he encounters a dangerous situation.
"Legs, then," then he picked up that brush and using their blood as ink, he began to draw some complex characters on two talismans. Ethan patiently watched him, realizing that's really rare to see Mikhael so focused. Although there were situations where Mikhael appeared to be "serious", he'd mess up his act in the next moment — so those times didn't count.
He realized that seeing him like this made him look... Quite charming, actually.
In the end, it took Mikhael around half hour to finish the two talismans. Although he only had to draw some characters, he had to infuse them with his mana all the time, and to the current Mikhael who was playing with two black talismans at the same time, it was a bit too much.
By the time he finished, he was so tired that he couldn't even lift a finger, thus he simply slumped down on the bed next to Ethan. It was a good choice to let the other party hold that cup since there was over half left. It's probably enough to fill an entire wine glass.
"Can I sleep now?" He forgot about exhaustion that followed. He originally wanted to give only a single talisman to the later party, but seeing his trust and goodwill, Mikhael settled for two instead.
Ethan took away the brush and two talismans before putting them aside. Although he was curious about them, he was more concerned about Mikhael.
It would be impossible for him to be unfeeling towards this vampire that became his Blood Partner. To some, a short period of barely two weeks might be short, but to Ethan who never felt an ounce of love for others, it was more than enough. It first began when this little vampire without any power or backing challenged him, then it grew into curiosity and the more time Ethan spent with him, the more he felt drawn to Mikhael.
He almost knew all his habits and preferences, Mikhael didn't bother hiding his true nature from Ethan at all - so it wasn't hard not to notice those little things.
Diana was right. Purebloods were like freaks to some and gods to others. Whenever someone approached them, they'd do so with ulterior motives and would deliberately hide their true nature in order to become more appealing to Purebloods. They'd even do anything to please the later so that they can rely on them, while Mikhael...
Well, Mikhael was simply being Mikhael. He even found Ethan to be an annoyance, forget about trying to please him! He approached him with if-you-don't-like-what-you-see-then-f**k-off personality and did whatever he wanted.
To Ethan, that kind of person was a different experience. Perhaps he did feel attracted to Mikhael just because he treated him differently than others, but recently he found that he enjoyed Mikhael's presence. He did smile a bit more often than before, after all.
"Of course you can't, we have some work to do," he chuckled before raising Mikhael's body. Taking the cup with leftover blood, be brought it closer to Mikhael to drink, yet the later refused.
"What are you doing, that's so wasteful!" He protested, but Ethan only pursed his lips.
"How can it be wasteful when I'm giving it to my partner? Is the position of Pureblood's partner something useless?"
"..."
"Still, it's too much. I just need some of your normal blood and I'll be able to work today too," his work consisted of following Ethan like his shadow, nothing too strenuous anyway.
"Yes, so be a good boy and drink this here, it's good for your health," he continued to coerce Mikhael like he was a little child.
"Don't wanna!" Mikhael turned his head away. Don't joke with him, do you know how good is this material for making talismans? He couldn't find better even if he wanted to!
"Stubborn brat," Ethan then changed tactics as he took a sip himself before lowering his head. Before Mikhael could lament that the other person drank his precious material, the later pressed his lips on top of his, drowning down the words that were about to be spoken.
Pinching his sides, Mikhael opened his lips as to scream in surprise, yet Ethan used that chance to give him the blood he kept in his mouth.
In that situation, Mikhael's couldn't refuse to drink that blood anymore or else he'd choke and Ethan didn't seem like he'd be letting him go soon, so he only helplessly swallowed it down. The moment he felt the sweet mixture run through his throat, all exhaustion from before dissipated into a thin air, even the hickeys on his skin immediately faded away under the influence of that blood. Deep in his chest, right next to his slumbering heart he could now feel a faint warmth.
"..."
'Ah, wait... Isn't this feeling...'
After he was sure that Mikhael drank blood, Ethan finally pulled away, swallowing the little blood left in his mouth along with his saliva. It really tasted good.
Mikhael under him blushed furiously as he showed an extremely grievous expression. He's been tricked! This, this, this, this... this fiend tricked him!
Yet before he could complain again, Ethan took another gulp before kissing Mikhael once again, forcing him to drink some more blood. As Mikhael feared, the warmth in his chest only grew stronger, but it wasn't something Ethan could notice. He — contrary to Mikhael's wishes — didn't let him go until they drank the last drop of blood in that cup.
Whenever Mikhael was about to open his mouth, the later would feed him blood with his mouth so he eventually gave up. In the end, both of them got half of the blood, but it was too late for Mikhael to change anything now.
So he only glared at Ethan with grievous eyes.
"What?"
Mikhael's eyes teared in frustration before he began to bite Ethan all over his arm.
"Are you that angry that I used that blood?" Ethan let him be a brat he really is, for some reason he felt quite elated right now, he didn't even feel the pain from Mikhael's bites. Mikhael didn't use his fangs either, but...
What else could he do? He was so frustrated, but he couldn't beat this guy — so he could only bite him in frustration!
Swindler!
Pest!
Fiend!
Mikhael ran thousand curses through his mind. What stupid material, his heart ached because of that too, but this i***t! Do you know what it means for two people to mix and drink their heart blood?
'f**k!'
It was also Mikhael's fault for not saying it was his blood instead of some half-blood's!
"It's okay, I'll just give you more if you need it. If you don't have anymore of half-blood's, I'll just get it from my siblings. No need to be frustrated."
'Frustrated, your sister!'
Mikhael began to bite him more violently.
Now look at what you've done! Even if I want to go away, I can't do it anymore! Why are you so stupid?! Giving your heart blood to anyone and drinking it mixed with anyone's!
Stupid!
Stupid!
But what could Mikhael say now? It was too late to change anything. He could only grieve in silence the fact that he became inseparable with this fiend now.
