Major Sarah Chen adjusted her headset as her F-16 approached the target coordinates, leading a formation of six aircraft armed with specialized ordnance designed to eliminate supernatural threats. Twenty years of military service had prepared her for many things, but nothing like this.
“Phoenix Leader, this is Command,” came the voice in her earpiece. “Target is a confirmed supernatural containment breach. Multiple hostile entities with unknown capabilities. Rules of engagement are weapons free.”
“Copy, Command,” she replied, though something about the mission briefing felt wrong. The intelligence reports mentioned children among the targets—how could children be classified as supernatural threats requiring air strikes?
“Two minutes to target,” her wingman reported.
