CHAPTER 5: Centurion Card

1102 Words
She had insisted that he come to her birthday party, but at that time, he barely had enough to eat and was planning to take up a paid shift at a diner that night, so he didn’t promise her. But now, things had changed. Xander decided to live like a normal person with his own circle of friends. Why not? He rarely went to parties because he couldn’t afford to buy gifts, but now, he could afford to buy a gift. Hundreds of gifts if he wanted. Hanging up, Xander glanced around. Among the stores nearby, only Hermès caught his attention. The university had a lot of wealthy families sending their kids to the school, so the companies knew that they would make good sales by setting up a branch in the area. Before now, Xander had never even dreamt that he would ever get to enter a*****e like this, not even as a cleaner. Now, with the black card sent by his sister, he couldn’t help but feel excited. Heck, he could buy this store on a whim. Xander was not used to spending his money, but using a card made it a lot easier. Taking a deep breath, he walked into Hermès. “Welcome to Hermes, how may I help you today?” a well dressed sales-assistant greeted Xander politely, but the moment she looked up and saw him clearly, her smile curved into a frown. “I’ll just look around,” Xander said. This was the first time he’d come to such a*****e, so he really didn’t know what to buy. Before long, the sales assistant’s attitude became colder. She even rolled her eyes as she watched him go through the store, as if she was watching a thief. “Darling, can you buy me a bag?” At that moment, a familiar voice rang through Xander’s ears. A tall, beautiful girl appeared, holding a boy’s arm. Xander turned his head to look. Suddenly, his face changed. It was Jasmine and James. “Welcome back, Mr. James. This must be your new girlfriend? She is really beautiful!” the sales assistant smiled immediately she saw James James was a regular customer at the store, and news about his relationship life was something they kept tabs on. New girlfriends meant more business for the store from him. “Thank you, Sarah,” James gave a smug smile. “This is Jasmine, my girlfriend, yes. And I’d like to get her a bag.” Jasmine blushed at the warm welcome she was getting. James was really amazing. He was respected everywhere they went and because she was with him, the respect rubbed off on her too. I can’t believe I ever wasted my time with that i***t called Xander. What did I ever see in him to begin with?’ she muttered in her thoughts. Jasmine pointed at a branded bag and said, “Babe, I want this!” The sales assistant smiled and walked over to the bag. “This bag is a new collection Hermes launched recently. Only a few hundred pieces were made available. We were quite surprised when it was sent to us here, but I guess since we have customers like you, the company had no doubts about it. It costs $70,000!” “Oh wow… That's a lot.” Jasmine almost covered her mouth in shock. James’s eyelids fluttered slightly. He said with a smile, “Sarah, if I guess right, this bag is among the sets that were handmade by Hermès. Given its excellent workmanship, it’s ranked among the top 10 luxury goods despite being on the market for only a year. Am I right?” The sales assistant was slightly surprised. “Wow, you know a lot!” James shook his head. “Although I enjoy luxury goods, I can’t claim to be an expert.” Then he looked at Jasmine. “My dear, you really have good taste. You were eyeing the bag the moment we walked into the store. But why don’t you look at others, something of a slightly lower price?” James said trying to hide the fact that he would rather die than pay $70,000 for a bag. Jasmine pouted. “But my roommate’s boyfriend bought her a bag that was quite expensive, and he isn’t even as rich as you are!” “I know that you want to brag to all your friends and all, and you will, I promise. I will get you the best of everything, okay?” “Besides, if the first bag I get you is this one, it will be hard to top it when your birthday or even our anniversary comes.” Jasmine’s eyes lit up at the mention of anniversary. ‘Oh my God! James really loves me!’ she squealed internally, but maintained her composure and walked around the store to find something else. As they left the bag, other people at the store began walking to check the bag out, attracted by James’s description of the Collector’s Edition bag. Xander wanted to leave since the sales assistant was not interested in assisting him. Plus Jasmine’s presence only made him want to leave even faster. At this point, another sales assistant walked over and gave Xander a gentle bow. “Hello, sir, w...what can I do for you?” Based on her timid approach and the way she was treating him, Xander guessed that she was new. He was probably one of her first customers, and he knew that sales assistants made more from making sales, so he felt bad about leaving. “Uh, I want to buy a gift for a friend,” Xander replied. “Sir, do you have a shopping card for our store? You can get a discount if you have one.” Xander was her first customer. She didn’t care about his clothes. She was simply following her training with a low-risk customer! “Um… no, I don’t, but I can pay with a credit card, right?” Xander took out the black card he had gotten from his sister. The waitress’s eyes widened at once. “Is that... a Centurion card?” She was full of disbelief. How could an ordinary student own a Centurion card? It was a really rare card, so rare only CEOs could afford to have one. The cost of getting one of those cards was going to be enough to buy almost all the items at the store, not to talk about the amount of money that would have to be in it for it to work.
