"you have no idea," sofia said tiredly, "if i hear it one more time, i'm gonna lose it."
mateo patted sofia's shoulder sympathetically, "take a break in your office first, i'll take care of the rest here, sofia."
in the midst of this chaos, sofia is really grateful to have an understanding coworker like mateo, "thank you very much. i'll be back as soon as i finish my break."
"no need to hurry. i'll report work to you, sofia," mateo said, "because i'm sure they'll call you back."
sofia was not surprised when it happened, "you know what? you're right." he really needs rest "i leave it to you, mateo."
"i got you, chef." mateo responded firmly.
sofia cracked a smile before stepping out of the kitchen to her study to unwind, "only ten people but more tiring than fifty people."
and worst of all, dominic wasn't there until dessert was served.
sofia took her cell phone that was in the locker, checking if there was a message from her.
nothing.
sofia decides to send a message to dominic where he is now.
from: dominic
i'm enjoying my overtime because your husband wants me to finish the paperwork that's piled up during my time off to las vegas.
it's really nice just working alone here.
sofia covered her gaping mouth in shock.
dominic turns out to be working overtime!?
sofia furrowed her brows.
while arsenio is having fun here with their friends.
'he thinks he can do this to me!?'
sofia rose from her seat, her tiredness was replaced by anger that was already at its maximum limit, at the same time the door to her office opened—accompanied by the sound of the person she was looking for.
"there you are, sofia. i wanted to thank you in person."
sofia rolled her eyes, "no need. i would be grateful if you stopped torturing dominic."
"here again," arsenio muttered in annoyance. his mood that had improved fell back down again because he kept bringing up a problem that didn't exist since earlier, "was i not clear what i said earlier?"
sofia understands, but knowing dominic is working late alone, she loses control again, "you left him late alone while you had a sumptuous dinner with our friends."
"investors you mean?"
"what?"
"our friends you mean the investors in our company. i thought you saw arlyne? she's a shareholder," arsenio explained irritatedly, "but what should i say? you never want to know the facts from me. most helpless, suffering, and victimized here."
sofia felt her heart stabbed by each of her true words, "but you shouldn't let him leave alone, arsenio." he said weakly, no longer as excited as before.
"leave alone...? he really wants to get your sympathy, huh? wants us to have a fight," arsenio mumbled, really sorry for dominic's gesture, "he's not alone on leave, there are others too, maybe the others have finished that's why he told you i see. well, i guess give your guy one piece of advice, maybe try to work without emotion for failing to get promoted."
sofia admits her guilt, but when she mentions dominic's failure, she doesn't accept, "you really are arrogant, huh!? he's your best friend. you should be on his side!"
"friends? since when?" arsenio asked back with a disdainful laugh, "you defend him so much, i think he already told you his biggest secret, huh?"
biggest secret?
sofia didn't understand what he meant.
is it about dominic intending to propose to arlyne? impossible.
"your face says you don't know it," arsenio said again after a minute of not getting an answer, "so sorry, i'm sure you wouldn't be this blind if you knew his secret." he himself was annoyed to know this fact even though it was clear that he had threatened dominic to tell the secret so that he could sincerely hand over sofia.
"you hid her big secret from me too," sofia defended herself who was cornered.
"well, i want him to tell you himself. it would be better if he were honest than you know from me, wouldn't it?" arsenio asked calmly.
he's right.
it would hurt a lot more to know a secret from someone else than dominic tell him directly, but the fact that he'd kept it hidden while they were dating already hurt his heart.
arsenio must have known this since college, considering that after graduating he went straight to indonesia.
"is there anything else you want to say?" sofia asked weakly.
arsenio looked at his face first before approaching to raise his chin, "if you don't get the facts from him, i will tell you."
"but your relationship..." sofia said hesitantly.
arsenio and dominic's relationship is already bad, made worse by arsenio being appointed ceo of the company, i don't know what will happen if this time he will tell the big secret if dominic refuses to tell.
arsenio took a deep breath, before replying sincerely, "everyone needs honesty in a relationship, including you. after all we did a deal first, and he broke it, so i'm not completely wrong here."
deal?
"about that secret?" sofia asked hesitantly.
"you're right," arsenio replied, "after all you are an important woman to me, sofia. i want you to be happy with a man who truly truly loves you."
sofia didn't answer. his words earlier evoked another memory of them, their separation when he was about to go to indonesia for work.
at that time his relationship with dominic was not very good because he still lived with arsenio, even though he had said repeatedly there was nothing between them.
dominic wouldn't listen, and continued to be possessive.
finally after graduation, arsenio decided to work to continue his family company.
"i..." sofia was at a loss for words, and didn't continue because her finger caressed her cheek gently and carefully, strangely that touch calmed a little of her heart and mind.
"sofia ..." arsenio called softly almost in a whisper.
sofia didn't take her eyes off her as if hypnotized by the gentle gaze of her familiar brown irises.
carried away, arsenio brought his face closer before closing his eyes to give him a peck on the lips.
