Katherine The ringing in my ears was growing louder, never stopping for a second. It was dark, but I’m sure my eyes were open. Each breath burned my lungs and smelled of sulfur and smoke, and a stabbing pain shot up my ribs with every movement. I heard coughing break through the ringing of my ears, and a small gust of wind cleared the air enough for me to see. I was on stage, the part that hadn’t fully collapsed, trapped under one of the beams that held the recessive lighting. The ceiling had caved in, crushing the second story balcony and everyone on and underneath it. I screamed as the beam shifted on top of me, feeling the snap of my ribs against the guitar I was pinned on top of. The stage creaked and groaned under me, dropping slightly under the weight.
