Drake’s car rolled to a stop right in front of Regina’s little house like it owned the damn street. The tires crunched over gravel, and the engine purred low like a predator that had already decided what it wanted. Inside the car, Kira and Kai sat in the backseat like two tiny judges, their arms folded across their chests, lips puffed out into dramatic little pouts like they were starring in some baby soap opera. Regina turned around from the front passenger seat, forcing her voice into softness even though her chest felt tight. “My babies… what’s with the face?” she cooed, patting both their heads gently. “Brighten up. You’re home.” Kai’s pout deepened. Like he took her words personally. Kira narrowed her eyes, the exact same way Regina did when she was about to curse someone out. “
