Regina and Drake stepped out of the car at the same time.
“Mummyyyy!”
The sound hit Regina straight in the chest.
Kai and Kira came running, backpacks bouncing, small feet slapping against the pavement like they were racing the world itself. Kai reached her first, arms flying around her waist, nearly knocking the breath out of her. Kira followed a second later, clinging to Regina’s thigh like she’d vanish if she let go.
Regina laughed, breathless. “Easy, you little demons. I’m not going anywhere.”
Kai grinned up at her, missing tooth and all. “You said that yesterday too.”
She crouched, pulling them both into her arms, pressing kisses into their hair. “And I meant it.”
