So she walked toward Daniel’s study anyway. The door stood was wide open like a cage baited for a bear. She didn’t hesitate before she just walked straight in. Daniel was seated behind his massive desk, shoulders tense, eyes locked onto a thick, leather-bound book like the world didn’t exist beyond its pages. The study smelled like ink, and polished wood. Regina stopped a few steps in. She smiled. Her hands folded behind her back like a child hiding a secret. Her messy hair fell around her face like a damn bird’s nest, but she didn’t care. She was glowing, stupidly happy, and that was dangerous around a man like Daniel Warren. His eyes lifted slowly. That glare...cold, cutting...dragged up her body, paused on her face. Her smile didn’t fade and that… that softened him. Just a little.
