CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR The ground blurs beneath me, a jigsaw of earthy tones stitched together by speed. Muscles ripple like liquid power under the skin of the wolves that have me bound between them. Their jaws are locked onto my limbs, not enough to break skin, but with an assertion of control that leaves no room for struggle. The forest is a darkening blur, and I can feel the shift in energy as we cross the invisible line into territory that isn't mine. I'm a rogue, a healer without a home, but even I understand the gravity of being dragged across this boundary. There's a heaviness to the air, a silent claim that speaks of ownership and the law of the tooth and claw. I try to reach into the wellspring of my empathic healing abilities, seeking some solace or maybe an edge, but fear clamps
