The Man Behind the War
Marco was gone.
His phone was switched off.
His apartment was empty.
Lia and Matteo found his car abandoned outside an old warehouse.
Inside, they discovered more evidence.
Documents connecting Marco to Adrian.
Lia felt betrayed.
"He was family."
Matteo looked at her.
"Adrian wanted someone inside the Morettis."
"Why Marco?"
"Because he wanted the family divided."
A sound came from behind them.
Marco stepped into the room.
Lia turned.
"Why?"
Marco looked exhausted.
"I didn't know what Adrian was planning."
"You helped him."
"I thought he was helping us."
"By destroying our family?"
Marco lowered his head.
"He promised me the Moretti empire."
Lia stared at him.
"So you betrayed my father."
"I didn't know he'd die."
Matteo stepped forward.
"Where is Adrian?"
Marco shook his head.
"I don't know."
"You're lying."
"I'm not."
Marco suddenly looked terrified.
"He knows I talked to you."
A car engine sounded outside.
Marco's face went pale.
"He's here."
The warehouse doors opened.
Adrian entered.
He looked at Marco.
"You disappoint me."
Marco stepped backward.
Adrian turned to Lia.
"You've done well."
Lia stared at him.
"Why did you destroy our families?"
"Because power belongs to whoever knows how to use fear."
"And my father?"
"Your father believed truth was more powerful."
Adrian smiled.
"He was wrong."
