Betrayal
Adrian revealed the final piece of the plan.
He had spent years building his influence.
The Moretti and Romano families had fought each other while he quietly took control of their businesses.
But Alessandro had discovered everything.
"He almost exposed me," Adrian said.
Lia's voice shook.
"Did you kill him?"
Adrian didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he looked at Marco.
"Ask your cousin."
Lia turned.
Marco's eyes filled with guilt.
"I was there."
The room went silent.
"What happened?"
Marco swallowed.
"Your father confronted Adrian. I was supposed to take the evidence."
"But you didn't."
"No."
Marco looked at Lia.
"I couldn't do it."
Adrian's expression hardened.
"Your father tried to escape."
Lia stared at him.
"You murdered him."
Adrian shrugged.
"He made his choice."
Lia felt anger rising inside her.
But she remembered her father's words.
Don't trust anyone who claims to know the truth about my death.
There was something Adrian wasn't telling them.
She looked at Matteo.
He understood immediately.
"Your father left another recording," he said.
Adrian's expression changed.
Lia smiled.
"You don't have everything."
Adrian stepped forward.
"Where is it?"
Lia didn't answer.
Because she had finally understood.
The safe contained copies.
The real evidence was somewhere else.
And Adrian was afraid of it.
