A Warning
That night, Lia received a phone call.
No number appeared on the screen.
She answered.
"Hello?"
Nothing.
Then a man's voice.
"Stop searching."
Lia recognized it.
Adrian.
"Where are you?"
"Somewhere you will never find."
"What do you want?"
"Your father's evidence."
"I don't have it."
"You have more than you realize."
The call ended.
Lia immediately called Matteo.
He arrived within twenty minutes.
"Did he threaten you?"
"Yes."
"What exactly did he say?"
Lia told him.
Matteo looked toward the windows.
"We need to move."
"Move where?"
"Somewhere safe."
"I'm not running."
"Lia, this isn't about bravery."
"Then what is it about?"
"Staying alive."
She stared at him.
"I won't let him scare me."
Matteo sighed.
"Neither will I."
They returned to the study.
The hidden compartment was empty.
Someone had searched it.
Lia looked around.
"Adrian."
Matteo shook his head.
"Maybe."
Then he noticed something beneath the desk.
A small piece of paper.
He picked it up.
It contained a list of names.
Morettis.
Romanos.
And one final name.
Elena Moretti.
Lia stared at it.
"Why is my aunt on this list?"
Matteo didn't answer.
Because Elena suddenly appeared in the doorway.
She looked frightened.
"Lia."
Lia turned.
"Tell me the truth."
Elena looked at the paper.
Then at Matteo.
And finally at Lia.
"I need to tell you something."
