LYRA'S POV I had s**t that tasted like acid forced down my throat, and then I was walking barefooted through the meadow. Ronan didn't stop, not even when pine nettles stuck into my foot. The wind howled, biting into my exposed flesh as we moved further out of the lodge, toward the secondary field behind a small copse of trees. My hair whipped against my face and a shiver from the cold sent goosebumps over my arms. I could make out voices in the distance, along with the scent of people gathered. Peering up at the waning moon, I exhaled as I pondered where and to what I was being marched. If I were lucky, maybe they'd finally end it here? It would suck, of course.
