Three months later the pair flew to San Francisco in separate planes two hours apart. Later they met inside the airport before taking off for the City. Madeleine was there for another conference; Daniel would be interviewing the governor the following day for an upcoming column. They stayed in a loft apartment belonging to a friend of Madeleine’s from college, Dana Northrup, who was spending the year in Japan. Madeleine had a blanket invitation to use the loft if she was ever in the city and what a treat that was.
