Chapter 11: The Truth Grace Buried

601 Words
The hidden chamber fell silent. The woman standing in the doorway didn't move. She looked older than Lena had imagined. Her dark hair was streaked with silver, and the lines around her eyes spoke of years spent carrying burdens no one else could see. "My name is Grace." Her voice was calm. "I've been waiting for this day for twenty-two years." Lena instinctively stepped closer to Adrian. Not because he asked her to. Because she trusted him. Grace noticed. A faint sadness crossed her face. "So it happened after all." Lena frowned. "What happened?" "You fell in love with the wrong Wolfe." The words landed like a stone in still water. Adrian's expression hardened. "Don't." Grace looked at him. "You've spent years protecting everyone except yourself." Adrian didn't answer. --- Grace walked slowly into the chamber. She stopped beside the old wooden desk and rested her hand on the leather journal. "This belonged to your father." She looked at Adrian. "He wanted you to read it." Adrian stared. "My father died before he could tell me anything." Grace shook her head. "No." "He died because he was trying to tell you." Silence. Lena saw Adrian's composure c***k for the first time. Not dramatically. Just enough for her to realize how much pain he had hidden behind control. --- Grace opened the journal. The first page contained only one sentence. > 'The greatest mistake I ever made was believing I could protect everyone by keeping silent.' Adrian closed his eyes briefly. His father had written those words. In his own handwriting. Grace turned another page. "It started twenty-four years ago." "There wasn't one founder of Wolfe Empire." "There were four." She pointed to the photograph on the desk. "Walter Wolfe." "Amelia Hart." "Thomas Reed." "And me." Lena looked at the photograph again. "So... my mother wasn't an employee." Grace smiled sadly. "No." "She was one of the people who built this company." Lena couldn't speak. Everything she believed about her mother shifted in an instant. --- "Then why did she leave?" Lena whispered. Grace looked down. "Because she refused to help hide the truth." "What truth?" Grace's eyes filled with regret. "That the company wasn't stolen..." "...it was sacrificed." --- Before anyone could ask another question... Footsteps echoed from the staircase. Marcus's voice rang out. "Mr. Wolfe!" "We found you!" He stopped as he entered the chamber. His eyes widened at the sight of Grace. He recognized her immediately. For several seconds... Neither of them spoke. Finally Marcus whispered, "I thought you were dead." Grace gave a tired smile. "I let the world believe that." Marcus looked at Adrian. "You need to see this." He handed Adrian a tablet. Security footage. Time stamp: Thirty minutes earlier. Someone had entered Adrian's private office. They knew exactly where to go. They ignored the safe. Ignored the computers. Ignored the cash. They stole only one thing. Lena's employment file. Adrian frowned. "Pause it." The image froze. The thief's face remained hidden beneath a hood. But one detail stood out. On their left hand... A silver ring. Engraved with a white rose. Grace's face lost all color. "No..." Adrian looked at her sharply. "You know that symbol." She nodded once. Barely able to speak. "That's not a warning." "It's a membership." Lena's heartbeat quickened. "Membership to what?" Grace closed the journal gently. Then looked directly at both of them. "The White Rose isn't a person." "It never was." "It's the organization that destroyed all of our lives." The chamber fell into complete silence. For the first time... The enemy had a name. END OF CHAPTER 11
