Meeting the soon to be parents in law DENNIS FAMILY FOYER – EVENING The door opens. Brianna , poised but slightly nervous, steps in with Emmanuel , her boyfriend. She clutches a small gift bag. The house is grand. Polished floors. High ceilings. A home that wears wealth and screams classic like armor. Emmanuel nudged her gently. “Ready?” He asked her. Brianna took a deep breath and smiled at him. “Too late to turn back now.” From the hallway, MR. and MRS. Dennis, approach. He’s tall, quiet. She’s elegant, watchful. Behind them, stands Claudia — poised, soft smile, eyes sharp. Mrs Dennis, welcomed her pleasantly. “You must be Brianna. We’ve heard... a few things.” Brianna smiled shyly. “Only the good ones, I hope.”. She hands over the gift bag. Mrs. Dennis, accepts it with a nod — approving, but measured. “Welcome to our home.” Mrs Dennis, said moving to the side so she could walk by. Emmanuel held her wrist. “Bree, this is my mother, father — and this is Claudia.” He wished he could just exempt her, but he couldn’t pin why she was there at the moment. Brianna meets Claudia’s gaze — steady, unreadable — and smiles. “It’s a pleasure to meet you all.” Claudia smiled smugly. “The pleasure’s ours.” A beat too long passes. Anna doesn’t flinch. She doesn’t recognize Claudia— at least, not outwardly. Mrs Dennis, pointed at a chair. “You could sit here, we’re about to have dinner”. Anna smiles and nods at her, she sits while clutching the bag of gift tightly. Mrs Dennis, noticed her shyness. “Is the bag for me of my husband?” She asked teasingly. Anna breathed in relief, she had been thinking of what to say and how to hand it to her. “It’s for both you ma’am” she replied, smiling shyly and handing the bag over to Mrs Dennis, outstretched hand. The air is thick with the scent of polished wood, subtle cologne, and freshly brewed tea. A chandelier casts warm light over the plush furniture. Laughter from another room echoes faintly. Brianna , dressed stylish but composed, sits stiffly on the edge of a velvet sofa, clutching a small gift bag. She's visiting her boyfriend's family for the first time. Footsteps. She turns as Mrs Dennis ( early 60s, dignified) enters with Claudia (20s, ethereal, poised), who glides in like she already belongs there. Mrs Dennis smiled at Anna, feeling somewhat uncomfortable and hoping the girls don’t recognize each other. “Anna, dear — this is Claudia. She’s a family friend. Her mom is my business partner and her dad is one of my brother-in-law’s business partner.” Brianna saw the discomfort hiding in her tone. She stood up smiling. “Oh, how lovely. Nice to meet you, Claudia ” She extends her hand. Claudia takes it, a slight pause before the shake. Her smile is cool, polite. “Pleasure. I've heard a bit about you.” Claudia replied. Brianna smiled, tilting her head slightly. “Only the good bits, I hope.” Her eyes calculating Claudia’s face. A quiet beat. Neither breaks eye contact. There's a history here — unspoken, loaded. Mrs Dennis spoke to ease the tension. “ Claudia just got back from Arabia. She’s been very busy lately with family matters. (beat) In fact, we were just discussing the... upcoming arrangements.” Brianna arranges her face in polite interest. “Oh? Congratulations, Claudia . That sounds exciting.” Claudia smiled faintly. “Thank you. Though I’m sure it’s a bit... unexpected for some.” Brianna doesn’t flinch. “Surprises keep things interesting. Don’t you think?” Before the tension can thicken further, Emmanuel, enters, lighting up when he sees her. He frowns slightly at Claudia’s smile. “Sweetheart ! Sorry, I got caught up with Dad. You’ve met Claudia?” Brianna smiled calmly. “Yes. We just introduced ourselves.” Emmanuel senses something in the air but brushes it off. Mrs. Dennis clears her throat. “Shall we have tea?” They all move to sit, the polite war just beginning — beneath the calm smiles, a battle of unspoken truths. INT. DINING ROOM – MOMENTS LATER** A long table set beautifully. Crystal glasses. Linen napkins. Silver cutlery. Everyone takes their place. Anna is seated between Emmanuel and Mr. Dennis , across from Claudia . **MRS. DENNIS asked her a question. “So, Julia — what is it you do?” Brianna smiled and replied shyly. “I work in marketing and advertising department in the company where I work. And I’m also into event decorating and I bake too.” Claudia chipped in. “That must be difficult — building a future on... taste.” Brianna maintained her smile “Taste is personal. But building something meaningful? That takes vision — not permission.” Claudia’s smile tightens. Emmanuel tries not to react. Mrs Dennis, spoke up. “Well, vision is important in this family.” She continued. “So is grounding. We value tradition.” Brianna replied her. “I admire that. But even tradition evolves. That’s how it stays alive — not by staying the same, but by staying true.” A silence. Unexpected. Claudia lifts her glass slowly. “To staying true.” Brianna smirked. “And knowing what’s worth holding onto.” She added. They toast — glasses clink gently. Emmanuel looks at Anna with new eyes. His mother... does too. Anna hoped they like the gift she brought or that would have been a shame to her and her besties. DENNIS FAMILY HOME – STUDY – LATER THAT NIGHT** Dinner is over. The house is quieter now. The only light in the room comes from a warm floor lamp in the corner. Emmanuel stands near the window, hands in his pockets, while MR. and MRS. DENNIS sit across from him — formal, composed, but visibly tense. “She’s... gracious. I’ll give her that. But you blindsided us.” Mrs Dennis said. Mr Dennis., his arms and smirked. You brought her here like she’s your wife already. And we haven’t even spoken about Claudia. Emmanuel chuckled. “That’s because there’s nothing to say about claudia.” Mrs Dennis, exchanges a look with her husband. “So Brianna, knows?.” Emmanuel nodded knowing exactly what she means. “About the arrangement you’ve been pretending isn’t an arrangement?.” They say nothing. Mrs Dennis, was slightly defensive. “We respected your space. But we also expected some—.” Emmanuel scoffs. “Respect in return? Like the way Claudia lied to you?.” That catches their attention. Mrs. Dennis narrows her eyes. Mr. Dennis straightens slightly. “What other lies?” Emmanuel chuckled. “Half-truths, manipulation, using family ties to make herself look like the only suitable option. She’s been weaving this perfect image, feeding off your approval. Meanwhile, she’s been pushing people behind the scenes — pressuring Anna , spreading rumors, cornering Emily to stir things up.” A heavy silence. “And Brianna just... told you all this?” Mrs Dennis, asked. Emmanuel nodded. “Bree, didn’t have to tell me. We’ve been working on it together.” Mrs Dennis, straightened up. “She kept quiet to keep the peace. I didn’t ask her to. She just wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. But I saw it. And I asked questions.” He steps closer now, voice low, sure. Emmanuel continued. “She’s not just my girlfriend. She’s the one person in that room tonight who walked in unarmed and still handled herself with grace. Not to win you over — but because she respected me enough not to embarrass the people who were judging her.” Another pause. Mrs Dennis, spoke softly, almost admitting. “She didn’t flinch once. Not even when Claudia ... poked.” Emmanuel smiled triumphantly. “She never does. That’s why she’s here.” Silence settles. Not agreement — but something shifting.
