Normally, a bullet could rip through the skull and penetrate the brain in less than a second. Everyone expected to see Cherry drop dead as soon as the riffle trigger was pulled straight at her forehead. Instead, the bullet was what dropped to the ground and Cherry stood firm on her feet. Everyone who watched on, including the other officers were simply astonished at what they saw.
"Ouch!" Cherry said, gently rubbing the spot where the bullet from the pistol had been directed. Still stuck in disbelief the officer reloaded the pistol and shot several times at the Captain who patiently allowed him run down on his ammunition. As soon as he was down to the last bullet, he held the pistol with both hands, looking at it critically as if she were examining the g*n's credentials.
"I don't understand! What just happened right now?" He said, consciously refusing to meet Cherry's eyes.
"I'll answer that! With my fist" Cherry said before which she sunk her green hot fist into the officer's face. That slick blow set up a grand stand fiasco as all the officers began to direct their weapons at the Captain who was later joined by her associate - Catriona Willows.
Cherry shot a few of the cars that the 'policemen' had arrived in and made effective use of her martial arts to contend against some of the officers. Troy was handed aerial duty, as she burst out into the air to take out the helicopters by destroying it's blades. Despite all the setbacks, the 'officers' stood their ground, choosing to fight until there was nothing left to do to apprehend the 'fugitives'.
"Stand back Cherry!" Troy said. Cherry understood immediately that she had a killer move to execute and so she gladly exited the scene by charging up into the skies. Troy released some floating drones which rounded all the officers. In a few seconds, the drones released electric charges that roused the officers out of consciousness. Troy immediately retrieved her drones and suddenly, a small crowd of onlookers began to applaud Cherry and Troy!
"No, no, no! Don't clap...you see, this is a bad thing!" Cherry said to the small crowd. They simply ignored her and continued to cheer. It seemed like Cherry and Troy had committed a great felony, but it wasn't actually so. The US government had apparently 'withdrawn' it's pursuit for the duo almost twenty four hours earlier. It couldn't have been legally authorized officers who chased down Cherry and Troy - a private body must have been given a bounty to capture them, so that they could be destroyed easily. They simply used the police's identity as their cover.
Cherry and Troy exited the scene no sooner than some supposed legitimate cops arrived to apprehend the fakes who were reported to be nuisances to the peace of the society. The United States government considered all four of the heroes 'godsent' heroes to every nation of the world and that declaring them fugitives was akin to shooting themselves in the leg; all these were mentioned at a diplomatic press briefing hours ago. It could have meant that they now had the freedom of returning to their homes until they had found Mason and Madonna. Cherry and Catriona weren't necessarily the closest of pals, but their ordeals had forced them to get along rather nicely.
On a slightly warm Saturday evening in Seattle, Cherry and Troy were walking in disguises down a busy road. They weren't easily identified due to their shady glasses and dark hoodies. They still remained undercover despite the fact that they had been denounced as 'fugitives'. It wasn't until later that night that they discovered this fact.
Troy was scrolling through news feed on Instaflash when she suddenly stumbled on a news link that Cherry and Troy had been let off the US government's trail.
"Hey! Hey!! Hey!!! Captain, check this out!" Troy said feeling a bit of excitement on reading the news.
"Check what out?" Cherry said as Troy continued to pat her shoulder repeatedly. Troy then gave Cherry her phone to share in her uncontrollable joy.
"The US Congress passes majority agreement to let Captain Cherry...that's me...and Catriona Willows...that's you! Off their trail. The ruling was approved by the US President earlier this week" Cherry slowly said reading from Catriona's mobile phone.
"I don't know...How're we sure this ain't some sort of trick...to apprehend us?" Cherry continued.
"Naa...I've known the government too long for them to think of playing tricks on us!" Troy responded.
"Hold on a second...when was this story posted?" Cherry curiously asked.
"It was five days ago. On Sunday afternoon. Why?"
"That means that the dudes who attacked us on Monday were fakes" Troy initially paused, analyzing her statement while tracing out her imaginary moustache. She initially couldn't believe it but all the facts pointed to it.
"Yeah Cher! I think you're correct. 'cause that officer shot you in the face and real officers would never shoot anyone in the face. Not even convicted criminals. They could hit your leg, your arm but not your face" Troy said before her mind recollected what happened to Cherry the other day.
"...and by the way, you were supposed to have died when that dumbass cop tried to send a bullet straight to your brain" Catriona continued.
"Yeah! I've been thinking about that lately, I mean...does that mean I'm indestructible or something?" Cherry asked.
"I don't know...we could have asked Maddie but..."
"Oh no!" Cherry said cutting into Troy's statement.
"What happened? Did I burp without my own knowledge?"
"No! Gross! We're meant to meet Maddie by six! We better head straight to Wisconsin right now"
"Oh yeah! She even sent the coordinates to me an hour ago"
"Troy?!"
Cherry immediately jetted out into the skies and was shortly followed by Troy. A number of onlookers thought they could pull out their phones to start filming but they were a little late. Cherry and Troy's latest discoveries proved that someone else was also after them and not the police. Their suspicions couldn't have been anymore accurate. The illegitimate cops were from a secret undercover agency called 'HKV' as identified by the carvings on their name tags. The heroes barely survived taking on Joao alone; now another legion was hot on their tails - hard to tell how they'd fare now.
Mason and Madonna were being held captive on Inversian territory. Joao had the ability to create portals that could take her across both multiverses, but she needed a substantial power source to create a portal and hold it open long enough for all her Inversian counterparts to come to Planet Earth and terrorise it's inhabitants. The only object in the universe at the moment that had such potential was the ancient green amethyst; hidden at pole position in Central Warsaw. Apparently, Maddie had discovered the exact location of the precious stone, seeing that it was a means of getting her brother and his cohort back. Had Madonna not been abducted, she might have been able to open up a portal to rescue Mason.
Cherry and Troy arrived at the Amex Park in Madison where Maddie had instructed them to meet her on Saturday evening. Maddison appeared to be playing a game of Chicken Invaders on her digitab and she became so absorbed in the game that she didn't know when Cherry and Troy arrived. The duo thought to take advantage of the situation by making Maddie think they had been waiting there for a long while.
"Maddie!" Cherry yelled and suddenly Maddison became apprehensive. She shuddered like she was caught stealing pieces of meatloaf from Mrs Riecke's pot.
"Don't ever do that again!" Maddie yelled in response.
"Alright. We won't" Cherry responded.
"Hey, isn't that chicken invaders you're playing?" Troy asked.
"Why weren't you guys here by six?!" Maddie asked ultimately ignoring Troy's question.
"Well we've been here since six, but you've been busy with Chicken Invaders for the past half hour" Cherry answered.
"Don't even think of playing that trick on me! I picked up my tab when it was ten minutes past six. I figured you guys weren't coming anytime soon! Who do you think? I am some dumb ninth grade kid?" Maddison asked.
"Well technically you are 'cause you're still in the ninth..." said Troy before being interrupted by Maddison's yelling once more.
"Shut up!!!" Maddison yelled. She then took a huge sigh before she directed Cherry and Troy to come and sit on either of her sides.
"We're really sorry Maddie" Cherry said.
"I know...I'm also sorry for yelling at you guys. It's just that sometimes I have a really bad temper and..." Maddie said.
"You mean all the time you've got a really bad temper" Troy said, interjecting Maddie's statement before wavering her to continue.
"It's just that I can't help myself sometimes...I'm really sorry" Maddison said with an innocent little dink on her face.
"It's okay Maddie. We all get like that sometimes. You just have to learn how to control it" Captain Cherry said.
"Alright I'll try" Maddison then said.
"So what's the way we can get Mason and Madonna back?" Cherry asks.
"I've been doing a lot of research lately and I found out that the evil girl you battled last time out was from Inversia..."
"Inver what now?" Troy interjected yet again.
"Inversia...her plan is to bring her people to take over Planet Earth and put it's inhabitants under the command of Edgaroz - the ruler of Inversia" Maddie picked up from where she left off.
"Okay, go on..." Cherry said.
"So Joao has the ability to jump through portals just like Donnie and Lord Naphtaloz, but she can't create one large enough to allow all the Inversian inhabitants walk across to earth"
"If that was the case, couldn't she just leave the portal open long enough for the dudes to walk across one by one?" said Troy who seemed to be reasoning critically.
"Extra terrestrial portals don't stay open for that long, Troy" Maddie responded. She scoffed before continuing.
"However, an ancient Polish stone known as green amethyst, is known to project the abilities of whoever possesses it by providing it's owner with alternative energy levels. Joao needs it to create a portal with the proper diameter she needs to carry out her conniving schemes" Maddie explained.
"Hold on a sec...I thought amethysts were purple?" Cherry said.
"I thought so too. Even the scientists and archaeologists don't seem to know what kind of stone it is, but at the moment it's been stored at the heart of Warsaw" Maddie explained. She only paused to open a chocolate bar she had in her pocket all this while. Maddie took a bite and then continued.
"You'll have to retrieve it and then I can find a way to pass enough power through it to recreate one of those portals that took away Mase and Donnie" Maddie concluded.
