"Marry Alpha Darius or lose your head right now!" Peter's voice thundered in Grace's ears. Marry? Alpha Darius? The clan her mother had always preached against.
Darius shot him a glare and looked back at Grace. "You want me to marry this unworthy human, you know how much hate I have for humans."
"The feeling is mutual," Grace muttered beneath her breath. She lifted her head to meet Darius's gaze. His jawline was sharp, his blue eyes captivated her soul, and his dark curly hair sat beautifully on his head.
How could anyone be so beautiful yet cold and dangerous? Grace instantly remembered her mother in the hospital; she couldn't afford to get killed and leave her all alone. Alpha Darius was known to cut off the head of whoever crossed his path or disobeyed him.
"I... I... can't just suddenly marry you." Grace summoned her courage to speak.
Just then, two guards barged into the room. "Alpha, everyone is waiting for the ceremony to begin," they said.
"I will spare your life on that condition. This marriage will only last till my Luna is found. There will be no attachment or expectation."
"I haven't agreed to it. I am a human, and I can't just get married to an alpha." Grace's voice shuddered as she spoke, but she stood her ground.
The humans and the Blackstone pack had co-existed separately for centuries and in those centuries, it had not been heard that a human and an Alpha mate were fated.
Darius took a few steps towards Grace, his eyes beaming red fury. "How dare you!"
Grace stood right in front of Darius as she lifted her head, his breath on her face as he breathed angrily. Just then, they both felt an undeniable pull.
Heat slammed her chest, fierce, uncontrollable, and stubborn, like fire igniting in her veins. Darius froze mid- stride. His eyes snapped to hers, glowing gold, shock rippling through his powerful frame.
His wolf screamed awake, recognition flooding his senses. The bond snapped between them, raw, undeniable, dangerous.
The air suddenly thickened. The room felt smaller, the air got colder. MATE.
The word echoed in his subconscious before he could stop it.
Darius growled low, his eyes shot wide. "Impossible!" He retreated from her.
Grace stood confused as to what had just happened. She had felt a sudden slam to her ribs, and she staggered back as her heart wouldn't stop racing.
"What just happened?" Grace asked.
Peter moved to Darius, his brows shot up, "You are mated to Elia, how could the mate bond snap between you... and a human?"
"This has to be a huge mistake. I reject you!" He walked away but stopped short at the door, "Get dressed and come out for the ceremony in five minutes. If you run, you die!"
Grace held the wedding dress in her hands as she stood confused, not knowing what had happened or why the world had stopped for a few seconds.
This wasn't what she had planned for; all she wanted was to finish up her job and leave to see her mother in the hospital.
As Grace walked down the aisle to Darius, who stood firmly with his hands clasped together, like he had not just threatened her into marrying him a few minutes ago, the guests went wild.
They exchanged glances and whispered as Grace proceeded to join Darius. She had not seen anybody in the crowd before, she was a stranger in a foreign space, with everyone ready to pounce on her.
Everyone seemed to have so much to say, but no one dared speak up. No one dared to question the Alpha. The ceremony ended as quickly as it began.
"Take her to the house, Peter. She mustn't leave," Darius ordered, and soon vanished in the crowd as he exchanged pleasantries with some guests.
"I am not a prisoner, you guys can't lock me up here!" She protested as the guards threw her into a room.
What had she just walked into? What had she agreed to? She was a free woman who only wanted to take good care of her mother and pursue her dreams, and the next thing she knew, she was married to the most feared Alpha. A man who didn't even know her name.
"Let me out!" She banged on the door as she screamed and yelled, but the music from the party drowned her voice.
After what seemed to be a good three hours, the door finally pushed open.
Darius walked in, holding a file in his hand. Grace had crouched on the floor next to the bed, her teary, stained eyes spoke more than her heart could.
Her vision blurred from the tears that threatened to escape.
"Please let me go!" she pleaded.
"I won't hurt you. No one here will," His voice was calm, unlike when he had threatened her.
He passed the file to her and took a seat on the bed. "Sign it."
"A Marriage Contract?"
"You need to sign that, if you want to be free."
Grace read through the clauses on the contract: no emotional attachment, no romance, no child, no expectations, and it was only going to be until his lover was found.
Grace scoffed at it, "So what am I, a placeholder? I would rather be dead!" She spat in his face.
Peter moved to hold Grace, but Darius raised his hand, signaling for him to stop. He used the back of his hand to rub off the spit on his cheek and stood up, his big build hovering over her.
Just then, her phone rang. That cut the tension in the air. Grace had completely forgotten that she still had her phone on her, but it made no difference. There was no one she could call to rescue her.
"Your mother has collapsed again!" Cassey cried.
"The doctor says she has to get treated now or she dies."
Grace looked down at the contract and back at Darius. "I will agree to this, on one condition: give me a million dollars."
