Chapter 9

4550 Words
Rennie-  Blinking the tiredness out of my eyes, I stretched my arms above my head. A cold came over my arm, I realized it was an ice pack. Sighing I sat up on the edge of the bed. Kyle was no where to be seen in the room, I felt a twinge of loneliness. Feeling the familiar fullness from my bladder, I got out of bed and padded to the bathroom.  While peeing I heard the bedroom door open, “I brought you coffee baby.” “Mmm.. coffee!” I yipped finishing up, noticing the sheets and blanket were missing from the bathroom. I finished up and washed my hands, seeing a robe hanging behind the door. I shrugged it on and tied it loosely, then proceeded into the bedroom. Kyle greeted me with a warm smile and a quick kiss, “Coffee is on the stand-by our bed.” He had a glint in his eye, suddenly earlier came flowing through my head. I turned beet-red, head to toe. He chuckled, “I need to switch the laundry, I won’t be long.” He patted my butt and nodded to the coffee, “You need to relax, in OUR bed.” Rolling my eyes, I climbed into bed, turning just soon enough to check out his ass as he walked through the door into the hall. “Dayum…” I picked up my coffee and took a sip. Finally, I had a chance to look at the bedroom, our bedroom, I smiled wide. The curtains were a bronze color and looked thick, a red sheer hung in the middle allowing a small bit of light in. The furniture around the room was old but refinished, I think its oak but I’m really not sure. There is a large long dresser with a vanity mirror, two tall bedside stands, and another tall dresser. The carpet was black and fluffy, I remembered the feel of it between my toes, wiggling them. This was definitely a king size but it now had a thick quilted blanket, I recognized the picture on it immediately. I had told Kyle about it while I was playing on f*******:, the Viking Love Quilt Set. My heart warmed as I realized Kyle decorated the bedroom for me, not for himself. The only thing I hadn’t seen when I first came into the room was the TV and stand at the foot of the bed. It seemed out of place. A phone on the side table started to ring, I looked over to find my cell phone. Picking it I could see the caller ID, it was my mom. She was probably checking up on me since I hadn’t called her yet. I answered, “Hey mom, how are you?” That was all it took! She wanted me home, Kyle had called and told her some of what happened, but more importantly that I was okay. I let her yammer for a long minute then took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “Mom… Mom… MOM!” Finally, she shut up, chuckling to myself I said, “Look mom, I know your worried. You know how clumsy I am, it was an accident. I’m fine, really.” I gave it a second to sink in before I continued. “I really don’t know how to tell you this mom, but Kyle built us a house.” The realization of my statement kicked in, a house… “Yes, mom it’s on pack territory.” I could hear the worry in her voice as I let it go in one ear and out the other. “Yes mom, I know I’m not accustomed to pack life yet. I know I’m technically not pack.” Getting irritated I waited for her to babble. “Look mom, I’m always going to be your little girl and I know I just turned eighteen.” I took a deep breath. “I’m his mate mom.” The phone went silent. Looking up I see Kyle with a tray of food standing in the doorway. I give him a soft smile and pat the bed beside me. He sits the tray down on the long dresser before coming over to the bed. He lays across the bed, his head in my lap. I let my fingers play in his hair. “Yes mom, I’m planning on graduating.” By the end of the conversation she sounded a little distraught, but I think she understood. She knew the pull of mates, she said it herself. I could tell I’d won this battle, “No mom, we will come by soon. I promise!” Another five minutes and I was finally able to hang up. “Is she okay?” Kyle asked looking up from my lap. “Yeah. As she put it, ‘I can’t believe my baby is growing up.’” I sighed heavily. I love my parents, but they could be a little overbearing at times. Kyle rubbed his head against my bare thigh, “You don’t have to live here if you don’t want too Ren. I know it all happening really fast. If you’re not ready, I’m okay with waiting for you.” His eyes looked sad, the pale without the beautiful orange swirling through them. “Sit up. Right now, Kyle.” I grabbed his ear, letting it go as he started to move. He sat Indian-style in front of me. As quickly as I made him get up, I slid into his lap and pulled his arms around me. “This is my place, right here. With you.” I felt his body relax but his arms grow tighter around me, “Are you sure?” I saw a tear slip down his cheek. Using my thumb; I pushed his tear away. “I’ve very sure.” I purred before pulling his lips to me. “Mine.” I stared straight into his eyes; a chill ran up my spine. I could see his eyes becoming more blue and the beautiful orange swirling into them. He placed his cheek against mine. “Mate, you are full of surprises.” I could see love in his eyes, not lust as he kissed me. Kyle made me feel like I was the only one in the world, I was made for him. I rested my head on his chest for a few minutes, just enjoying his company. My stomach started to grumble, and I stiffened slightly, surprised. “I knew you would be hungry.” He smiled down at me laying his hands on my hips. He gently scooted me off and climbed from the bed. Retrieving the tray, he came back sporting a half smile. “It was hot and fresh when I came up! Maybe it’s still warm?” I grinned, delighted that he thought of breakfast. A real big breakfast! I admired his handy-work for a few seconds, it looked to good to resist! He had over-easy eggs, bacon, home fries and off to the side pancakes! Oh! I love pancakes! Jokingly I said, “And just where is yours?” I slid the tray closer to me and grinned devilishly. “I had my breakfast earlier…” He gave me the biggest, goofiest, lust filled grin I’d ever seen! Not that I’ve seen them a lot. “Seconds even!” His voice seductively husky beside my ear. My belly tried to enter the conversation, he kissed my cheek softly, “Eat baby.” Breakfast was now my favorite meal of the day! I sat in Kyle's lap leaning against his chest talking most of the afternoon. However, I’m proud to say, he ended up eating with me! The afternoon seemed to fly by, before I knew it the sun was going down. We’d spent all day in bed talking. There was so much information to learn! Most weres- or shifters get their wolf no later than fifteen, only because half-breed (human half) sometimes do not start maturing until then. However full breed wolves come younger, Alpha’s wolf comes between 5-9 years of age. From 16-24 you usually meet your mate. Your mate is your other half. They complete you and your wolf. Their touch has a calming and sometimes euphoric feel. Fated wolves can feel each other across states, sometimes even further. Once they mark each other, a lot of things come along. Like it creates a mind-link, sharing thoughts and feeling. It’s similar to telepathy and empathy. But the big things about Marking Your Mate are: 1) Instant connection, telepathy and empathy. 2) You can basically feel your mate no matter where they are. 3) We are overly possessive, both you and your wolf. 4) Your mate is the only person you are ever going to love, mating with anyone else is out of the question. There are exceptions such as being mated to twins, triplets, quadruplets! Wow, now that is scary! 5) If you are mated and one of you die, the other has a chance of dying. Sometimes its instantaneous, others mourn themselves to death. Having off-spring can change that. I think it has to do with having a part of your mate still there. 6) If your mate dies and you do not, you might get a second mate, or you can choose a mate if you meet someone. That shuts out your second chance card. And changes your intended’s fate, usually. There have been instances of shifters fighting over a mate. If that wasn’t information overload Kyle explained Alpha, Luna, Beta, Gamma, and Omega. Along with their part in the pack. It comes down to this… Alpha- Leader of the pack. Tries to do what is best if he’s a good Alpha. His wolf is the largest usually in the pack. An Alpha must be strong, contain a clear head, and provide for his people. In times of war, he is your decision maker. If he is mated, he is nothing without his Luna. Their bond makes them stronger together. Most shifters ranking below them feel the need to submit or show submission, especially if it is his pack member. Many Alpha’s can have a bad temper, their wolf is usually most feared. Alpha’s radiate dominance. His voice is the loudest in the pack link. he feels the emotions from his people the strongest. If mated his Luna feels the same intensity. An Alpha does not have to be male. A female Alpha does not have to be a lesbian (I asked wanting to understand fully). Luna- Many times, second in command in hard times. She is the Alpha’s mate. Once accepted into the pack as Luna, it open’s up a pack link, her voice dominates but never over the Alpha of the pack. The Luna’s purpose is her people. She does whatever needs done for pack. Her pack comes first. Only second to her Alpha. She submits to no one other than her Alpha, but if she feels strong enough, she can match him test him. It is not likely the Alpha and Luna would actually fight, but it has happened. Mostly she keep his council and helps him make it through, giving him a safe harbor of sorts. Her touch can tame the beast within, but that is a two way street. You do not have to have an Alpha to be born a Luna or inherit the role. Beta- Second in command usually Alpha’s righthand man. Strong and skilled as a fighter and protector. He should always have his Alpha’s back. Shares in the pack link with a loud voice. Sometimes must go in place of the Alpha at meetings. Other times must hold down the pack while the Alpha is away. Loyalty plays a big part in being a Beta. His wolf is not as big as his Alpha, but they are known for being extra buff. Women can also be Beta’s however it doesn’t happen as often as it should. Gemma- Third in command. Specializes in combat and some protection. Loyalty also plays a big part in his role. He or she shares in the pack link with a loud voice. Omega- Mostly female, they are the weaker shifters in the pack. May times they are picked on, but if the Alpha, Luna, Beta, Gemma catches you… You will be punished. Does share in the pack link. Rising Moon Pack life in general- Everyone over the age of fifteen will train at least five days a week but it is preferred to start sooner. Discrepancies among pack are preferred handled at a pack meetings. In the event of an emergency everyone has a job, even if it is getting those to safety who need assistance. In times of crisis, treason is unforgivable, often death is the punishment. However.. you can be banished from the pack, making you Rogue. Pack life is basically a community of like person, striving for better, helping their neighbor. Pack is the realization you are stronger as a whole. Pack is your family. Your mate does not always come from your pack, sometimes you have to search the world. More times than not, it is a search.. Most families in the pack have their own homes but there are pack houses as well. There are two types of pack houses.. Mated and unmated. The mated house has larger sound proof room, its more like a transition home if you have no where to live with your mate. The other is the unmated house, sometimes the Alpha and Luna live there. It is the location they are needed the most, more trouble between young unmated shifters. The Alpha is mostly there for structure and a firm hand. The Luna however is there for guidance and to improve overall moral. Rising moon pack territory is almost one hundred miles wide. The surrounding packs are the Waning Moon Pack, Crimson Moon Pack, and Pale Moon Pack. Currently we are under treaties with all three for peace. Over the years a Four Pack Alliance was formed. Lastly Kyle explained Rogues to me and why they can be so dangerous. All Rogues, no matter the reason they are pack-less, give off an odor. Over time they become unpredictable, wolves are social creatures. Because of the smell Rogues are easy to track and hunt. Being on your own, terrified all the time, being hunted, I don’t know that I wouldn’t have trust issues. At that point when you figure you are better off on your own, you possess no loyalties. Not having loyalties compromises the whole pack, which is one reason they are hunted when they trespass on our territory. Along with knowing all of that, Rogues hunt and kill sometimes without reason. Other times Rogues group together similar to a pack, only without actual loyalty. In that case they are mostly held together out of fear or a common goal. Lastly, a Rogue can become a pack member. If they show the valid qualities and become trusted, sometimes just mated to a member of the pack they can be accepted if they pass the tests. Kyle taught me so much before we decided it was time for dinner. I asked him if we could eat in the kitchen, I was feeling really good! I still had a bump on my head but we iced it off and on all day. I was just so restless laying in the bed all day. Not to mention wound up from Kyle. His closeness created an aching feeling to touch him. Let him touch me. Have him against me, teasing me, inside me! My wolf chimed in. As much as we both wanted something more to happen throughout the afternoon, Kyle kept his kewl. It was frustrating but he would remind me the doctor told him I needed to take it easy and not have strenuous activities. In my mind that meant I couldn’t lift a refrigerator by myself. In Kyle’s mind that meant bed rest and being waited on hand and foot. I think he could tell I was getting frustrated being cooped up. I kept ringing my hands and standing up from the bed to stretch, only to have him scold me like a child. Then I’d pout and chew on my bottom lip, giving him the saddest eyes I could muster. In the end he was no match and we were now sitting in the kitchen together. “So mom stocked us with microwave meals.” Kyle told me. I just shook my head, “No. I want to cook dinner with you.” He gave me a questionable look. “It's our first dinner in our house, it should be special.” I said shyly. Kyle brought his face to mine kissing me softly. “I have a great idea.” I looked at his curiously, “I don’t want take out.” He smiled softly, “That would not be special at all.” He pursed his lips. “I was actually thinking I could get everything together at the island and you could slice and dice on a bar stool. I’ll do the stove and oven work.” He gave me a sideways glace to check which side I was positioned on. I smiled brightly, “I like that idea, but what are you going to be doing while I slice and dice?” “Pick up the house of course!” But I could tell that wasn’t it, let alone we really hadn’t been in any other part of the house. I want out. Mika demanded, We will heal faster! Shaking my head I asked Kyle about what Mika had told me. “Mika is smart love, most wolves have to be taught that. But I’m not sure with a head injury if that is a good idea.” He looked sad for a moment. Then his eyes glazed over. I bet he’s linking the doctor! Mika squealed at me. I sat for a minute waiting for Kyle’s eyes to become their normal vibrant blue swirl. “Can I check your wound?” He asked standing up and inching forward. He looked into my eye without proceeding until I nodded. I felt the tape shift in my hair pulling a few strains out from the stickiness. “Sorry, I’m trying to be easy.” I knew he was trying not to hurt me, but going this slow was excruciating! “Grab the tape then grab a clump of hair and separate it in bulk!” I said cringing as he worked painfully slow. Finally I shivered from a cold chill and stood up, “I’ll do. I need a mirror, where’s the bathroom?” I chuckled about not knowing the own layout of our house yet. Kyle walked me to the staircase, I thought for a minute he was going to take me back to the bedroom. Then he continued around the staircase, just behind it was the bathroom. He turned on the lights and we stood in front of the mirror. I noticed it was much smaller than the one in our bedroom. It was still nice size though plenty of room for more than one person to look in the mirror. I leaned forward inspecting the work he had already done, then with one quick rip the bandage was gone. I winced and sucked in a deep breath. Kyle placed his hand on my arm in a comforting gesture, but the look on his face said it looked painful. I finally raised my eyes to view the damage. “SSSsss…… it looks awful angry.” He said then his eyes glazed over. Suddenly his face contorted into a wide smile. “The stitches are dissolvable and since it is closed up, you can shift. Your wolf should help it heal faster.” He rubbed my back softly then grabbed a hand towel and turned on the tap. I leaned on the counter, letting him wash the dried blood from my hair. I knew he was being as gentle as he possibly could but a few times I was sure my eyes were going to pop out of my head. As he finished up he washed his hands, kissed me and led me back to the kitchen. “Joe wasn’t expecting you to heal so quick. He said you must be strong female.” He radiated with pride, “After dinner? We can let our wolves run!” Freedom! Mika sang in my head half howling. I could feel her trying to push to the surface. I need freedom now! She scratched and clawed, I struggled. “This is my time with Kyle, Mika. If you want your time with Fenrir, give me my time. It is only fair.” I tried to persuade her. With a growl she screamed, Fine! “So, what would you like for dinner?” Kyle smiled looking to my face for any clue. “Meat!” I slapped my hand over my mouth as soon as it came out. “I’m sorry, it was Mika!” I felt so embarrassed. Kyle eyes shifted the orange becoming more dominant, “Soon Kitten.” His voice thick full of lust. He grabbed me crushing me to his chest, his lips devouring mine. I purred against him, feeling our instant connection. Suddenly he let me go, lowered his head, his voice was strained. Definitely more husky, “I’m sorry. I couldn’t get control.” His breath was heavy making his chest rise and fall, even more visible the all the other times. I stood there breathless, my hand gripping the counter. I was dizzy, weak in the knees, but it wasn’t my head causing it. I pressed my back to the counter, placing my hand behind me at the edge of the countertop. I felt my hands clench, grasping it tighter. “Steak, I want steak.” I tried to catch my breath, “Almost rare.” I looked up to Kyle. He came closer to me staring into my eyes intensely. “There is purple swirling in your beautiful green and gold yes love. I’ve never seen anything so amazing!” With wonder he stepped closer. I closed my eyes tight! Something was trying to take over! Kyle took my hand in his and slowly I could feel everything that was pushing to break through falling away. My body relaxed along with my mind. Finally, I opened my eyes again. Kyle was still peering curiously. “Sorry, I don’t know what happened. It was like Mika was trying to push through, but it wasn’t Mika!” Kyle looked a little concerned. I felt him shift his feet, “I’m right here with you.” He lightly stroked my face. “Steak, huh?” He smiled softly. “Yes! And a baked potato! A salad!” I suddenly felt famished and my mouth watered at each individual statement. “Then that is what my lady will have.” He kissed my lips softly one more time then pulled a stool up for me. “Sit please.” I watched as Kyle pulled onions from the cubby in the counter, along with potatoes he placed into the small sink. He turned cold water on over them and plugged the sink letting it fill over the potatoes. Then he moved to the fridge pulling out the lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and cheese. “Will this work for a salad?” I nodded. He retrieved a medium bowl from the cabinet and a knife. “Okay, I’m going to tidy up.” With that he left the kitchen and me to chop the veggies. I had the salad ready by the time he came back over. I looked up with a smile, tears streaming down my face. The onion I had in my hand slicing was absolutely potent! I cleared my throat a little, “Hey you.” “Hey me, are you okay? Did you cut yourself?” He rushed over to me. I chuckled softly, “No love, it’s the onion.” I sniffled. He took the knife from my hand and guided me to the larger sink. He turned on the cold water and put soap on my hands. He grabbed a paper towel from the rack and let the water stream over it for a second before he brought it to my face. He wiped my tears then under my nose. “Did that help?” I smiled at him, “Yes. I was okay though, it was just a strong onion.” He giggled, “From the look on your face it was atomic.” I rolled my eyes then searched for the silverware drawer, finding it I grabbed a fork. Kyle brought me back to my stool then rinsed the remaining dirt from the potatoes. He dried them before bring them over to me. “Microwave version huh?” “The steaks will be black by the time the potatoes get done if we don’t.” He nodded, watching me stab my fork over and over into the potato. “Have you ever trained with a knife baby?” I looked at him funny, “I haven’t trained with anything Ky.” “Well you handle a fork pretty well, I was just wondering how you would be with a dagger.” He gets a far away look on his face then gives me a wide grin, “Sexy.” Kyle sautéed the onions for a couple minutes before putting the steaks on. He checked the potatoes squeezing them, taking them out as they became softer. He seared our steaks perfectly. I helped him make our plates from my station. Finally, he gave me a wink and a nod to follow him to follow him. He led me through a hallway then outside. I could see a glow growing around Kyle as he walked. I looked around and noticed the candles lit along the banister, leading to a small table with a cloth over it, two chairs and a candle placed in the middle. My breath caught at the sight, it was inviting and cozy. The moonlight cascaded down, illuminating the yard making it visible to the wood line. The yard was trimmed, nothing out of place and utterly soothing. A tear streaked down one of my cheeks, “It’s perfect.” Kyle turned to look at me, he rubbed his thumb over my cheek, “I did good? Please tell me that is a happy tear.” He sounded a little panicked. I stepped closer to him, wrapping my arms around his shoulders. I raised to my tip toes, with one hand on his neck I guided his face to mine. His arms didn’t hesitate to pull me closer, his lips taking over. Demanding I kiss him hard, I felt his hand go to my back side. It took everything in me not to wrap my legs around him and demand he take me right there! His kisses trailed my jawline reaching my neck causing me to shiver as a light breeze kicked up. I moaned softly trying to catch it before it escaped. Kyle nipped me in the soft spot where he told me I would wear his mark when I was ready. I’m ready! Let’s do this! Mika shouted at me yipping. I couldn’t help but giggle at her eagerness. Kyle pulled back, “Did I do something funny kitten?” I stopped giggling, “No it was Mika” He c****d his head to side, “You.. nipped where you told me you were going to mark me.” I blushed. “Ah.” His eye brows arched, “She’s ready.” I conveyed.   He chuckled softly. He pulled out my chair, “Maybe we should discuss this over dinner?” I could tell he was lightly joking, but this was no laughing matter for Mika. We ate our dinner with light conversations. Kyle sure could make a steak! Everything was good! I couldn’t finish it all I was so stuffed! Kyle sat back in his chair calmly watching me pick apart the last of my potato. He suggested we give our food a little time to settle before shifting. Giving me some time to come to terms with Mika being set free.
