Lilith POV “Good morning, Kate,” I greeted as I entered the restaurant with a smile on my face. Kate, my colleague, shifted her focus from the floor she was mopping, she raised a brow at me. I rushed to her and hugged her. She was shocked as she pulled back suddenly and asked. “What is the matter?” “Ryker finally agreed to come with me to Aria’s grave,” I cheered as I grabbed another mop from the bucket of soapy water. “Wow,” Kate said in a sarcastic way, with a scowl on her face. I frowned, as my shoulders dropped. “Kate… Ryker is working on himself, this is a sign.” “Yeah… he has been doing that for seven years now, right?” Kate scoffed as she went ahead to mob the floor. I started to mop as well, if our boss comes and sees us talking, instead of working, it would be a problem. We need to get the restaurant clean before any customer comes. I sighed as I moved closer to Kate. “You know he is a man… men have ego, Kate. Ryker’s ego…” “It’s all his fault,” Kate snapped. I swallowed as I watched her eyes water. Kate was ten years younger than me, she is an Omega and she considers me as her elder sister and respects me as a Beta, even though I had lost my rank seven years ago. I shook her head at Kate, I knew what she wanted to say, because she says it all the time. But, if I listen to her, it would cost me my marriage. Kate took a deep breath. “Lilith… look at you. Look where you work, you are not an Omega, only weak wolves like me work here…” I shook my head at her, and I was about to talk when she raised her hand and stopped me, leaving my mouth open. “You are a Beta. A strong soldier, you should be holding a sword and not a mop. Ryker is the reason for all this, he made you a shadow of yourself, while he never works hard and he looks so young.” I took a deep breath. Maybe Kate was right, but I had sacrificed all those things for my love, I sacrificed my rank, my beauty and… Aria, unfortunately. “He is the reason you lost Aria… he never cared for you once while you were pregnant, instead he allowed you to do five jobs daily… he does not deserve you, Lilith.” My eyes welled up and tears began to roll down my cheeks as I stared into space. Kate noticed and she went mute. “I’m sorry,” she whispered as she walked up to me and she wiped my tears with her hands. “I’m sorry I got carried away. Seeing you happy again because of him, made me wonder if this happiness will last.” I nodded. “I understand.” I smiled at her. I know she cares genuinely. “Common, let’s finish this work, so you can go visit Aria’s grave… I wish I could come, but the boss won't agree for us both to leave at once.” I gave her a short nod and we continued to clean, but I couldn’t smile anymore, her words only made me wonder if I was wrong about my beliefs… my love? After we finished the morning work, I took an excuse from my boss and I went to Aria’s grave in the woods. I came earlier than planned, I wanted a little quiet time with her before Ryker would come. I sat next to her grave as I sang the lullaby, I had planned to sing for her after her birth. This was like a ritual that I do whenever I come. As I sang, my lips quivered as tears ran down my cheeks. By the time I was done, I looked at the time and it was already past the agreed time, and Ryker wasn’t here yet. I called his phone and he picked it up on the third dial. “Hey babe… I have something urgent to do. Sorry, I’ll go with you next time.” The line died. I froze in shock, my fingers shaking as my phone slipped off my hands. I blinked as I took a deep breath. “Why am I so hurt?” I laughed out as I threw my head back, tears were still rolling down my eyes. “He does this most of the time, I should be used to it now right, Aria?” The sudden chirping of a bird was enough confirmation that Aria thought the same way too. I sighed and spent a little more time with her, telling her stories about how courageous her grandfather was and how he fought for the pack until his last breath. “You know, you should forgive your father, okay? One day, he will visit you too.” I said as I fought back my tears. Soon I left to go back to work. As I neared the restaurant, I heard Kate’s voice, she sounded furious. I was about to rush in when someone grabbed my hand. “Hey Lilith.” I turned to see Helen, she worked in the restaurant with Kate and I, but we were not that close. I smiled at her. “Hey, Helen, what is going on in there?” “Nothing,” Helen chuckled, but her eyes were saying otherwise. She looked suspicious. “Let me go and see,” I tried to leave, but she pulled me back again. “You don’t have to see…” she said grinning. Now this is weird. Is Kate in trouble? I have to check on her. “Leave me,” I growled, with my fangs out and Helen flinched as she let me go. She was an Omega, she knew not to get me mad. I spun and raced into the restaurant and I saw Kate arguing with a lady who backed me. “I have said, I will not serve you.” “Why!” the lady snapped back. “Because you are a cheap slut… why don’t you go get your own man.” A few of our colleagues were holding Kate who locked like she was going to pounce on the lady. “Shut up, insipid… how dare you talk to her like that! I’ll get you fired, where is your manager?” the man beside the lady growled at Kate. That voice. “Ryker?” I called, and he turned, with the lady. There he stood, with Dahlia, his hand around her waist as he defended her.
