chapter 3

Ella was trying on a dress for tonight. David's entire family, hers and other important families from the area, were to be at the party. She knew she couldn't let on that she was finally going to run away from David, but the thought of an entire evening of false affection with her husband gave her chills. After meeting Nora, she also had some concerns. Her friend asked her if David could see her room. After all, he controls her at every step. It's true that in his one act of morality, he allowed her to have her own room, but what if he had hidden cameras there? Ella couldn't stop thinking about it. Nora also told her that she should get rid of this child as soon as possible, without waiting for an appointment with her doctor, but make a private appointment with another one. Ella had her doubts about this because she trusted her doctor... and anyone else could only be David's puppet. Two weeks wasn't long enough to take such a risk... "Ella, honey, are you ready?" She heard her husband from behind the door. "One minute..." She replied, breathing heavily. What if he really knows about her pregnancy? Ella left the room, smiling warmly at her husband. "Let's go, my dear," She grabbed his arm. "Yes... Let's go," He smiled strangely. Ella had a really bad feeling about this. At first they stood and greeted the guests, looking like the perfect couple. First David's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Draycott... then Vanessa, David's stupid sister, then Ella's parents showed up, with all her siblings. "Ella!!" The twins screamed as they ran towards her. Ella saw her mother trying to admonish them about good behavior, but they were already running into their sister's arms. "Eva, Ava! I'm so glad to see you!" She hugged her younger sisters. They were still so little, and Ella was really afraid that one day her parents would hurt them the same way they hurt her. "Hi sister, hello David," Leo, Ella's younger brother, shook her hand and bowed his head towards her husband. "Hey, little one," David crouched down and gave him a turtleneck. He really knew how to pretend in front of people. Leo smiled faintly and walked toward his parents. He was only 10 years old, and our father was already training him to be the company's successor. Leo really didn't like it. They welcomed more guests when suddenly her gaze stopped on a man standing in the doorway. He looked at her carefully. She had never seen him at any meeting before. "Hey, Alex!" David waved at the man, but he just glared at him and went on his way. "Who was that?" Ella asked quietly after kissing one of David's aunts. "My brother, are you stupid?" David snorted impatiently. He glanced at his watch; it was almost 7 p.m. "Do you have a brother?" She asked surprised. She had never heard of it. Ella met Vanessa and her husband at our first family dinner. Not to mention the wedding, which was full of her. But him? She didn't even see him at the wedding. "Ahem, okay, without further ado," David cleared his throat and attracted the attention of all the guests. He made some speech, as always. And then he invited Ella to his place in the middle. "Me and my beautiful wife." He looked at her smiling. "We would like to announce something." He wrapped his arms around Ella's waist. She felt very weak. "We're expecting a baby!" It was over. She fought for every breath. Loud applause and cheers came from the hall, which she heard as if through a fog. She felt very dizzy and could barely stand on her feet. The girl looked at David with horror, and he looked her straight in the eyes, smiled broadly, and kissed her passionately. Ella couldn't stand it. She pushed him away with all the strength she still had, politely apologized to the guests, explaining that she was feeling unwell, and Ella ran out of the room. Most people didn't find it strange, but it was visible that the murderous look was in Ella's mother's eyes. She ran down the hall as fast as she could, her whole world swaying. How could he know that? Does he really have cameras in her room? Or maybe Vanessa found out? No... that wouldn't be enough evidence to announce to everyone. Besides, Vanessa looked just as shocked as Ella did. Apparently, she truly believed that her Brother's wife was infertile. Ella ran into her room, turning the key behind her 5 times. She immediately called Nora while searching the room. Nora: "Something hap-" "He knows! He knew! He announced it to everyone at the party tonight!" Ella panted into the phone, looking for a hidden camera. "What... do you mean WHAT?!" Nora screamed, visibly stressed. Ella felt so weak that she could barely stand, but was determined to destroy the camera he was using to spy on her. After a few minutes of searching, Ella fell onto the bed exhausted. There was no camera anywhere! "Nora, I don't know what to do!" Ella spoke crying. Nora: "Calm down! We'll figure something out... can we say you had a miscarriage?" Ella sighed. Now David would be watching her every step of the way, and he would definitely notice. She was about to start speaking when she heard a soft knock on her door. "Nora, wait a minute," Ella said as she hung up, not giving her friend time to respond. She slowly walked to the door, wiping away her tears. "Who?" She asked, listening for the answer. "Let me in," She heard a deep male voice that sent shivers down her spine. It wasn't David. She opened the door slightly, looking at the man behind it. It was the same one she had seen at the door earlier. David's brother, as far as she knew. "What... What are you doing here?" She asked in a trembling voice. "I want to help you," He put his hand in the gap between the door to open it wider. Ella didn't protest and let him in. A moment later, she heard heavy footsteps in the corridor and her husband's voice calling her. "Close the door, quickly!" She told the man standing in front of her. At her command, he turned the lock on the door. Meanwhile, Ella began to look at him. He looked a lot different than David, but they had the same eyes. The man standing before her was tall, well-built, handsome... with slightly messy black hair. He snapped her out of her reverie by clearing his throat as they held eye contact for a moment. "So how do you want to help me?" She asked with sadness in her voice. She didn't really have much hope that the stranger would help her. "I'll take you to an abortion tomorrow." He said, running his fingers through his hair. Ella looked at him for a moment. "But... everyone already knows..." She paused for a moment. "How did you know I didn't want this baby? I'm your brother's wife! We're married!" "It's just an official marriage, right?" He looked her straight in the eyes. Ella didn't know what to say. Just as she was trying to gather her words, someone behind them started banging hard on the door.
