Chapter 9I was out on patrol when my Alpha’s howl cut through the night. It was a warning, a call to me, and I turned and ran at my full speed, not hesitating, pushing myself to the limit to get to him. My lungs burned, my heart pounded, and all four of my legs strained with the effort as I pushed myself even harder, traversing the miles that separated us in minutes. I hit his backyard at a dead run, and he’d already shifted back to his human form. As soon as I made it onto the porch, he grabbed ahold of my scruff with strong fingers as he growled one word. “Shift.” I was always quick with changing forms, but with Mac’s power and command behind it, it happened in seconds.
