Chapter 4: City A

The soft leather seat hugged her body, and the large glass window beside her revealed the vast, open blue sky. The pilot started the engine. The helicopter slowly lifted off the ground, hovered, then ascended into the air. Tư Như Hân sat by the window, her hand tightly gripping the seatbelt. On her lap rested a handbag containing the bank card Secretary Dương had given her. She hadn’t opened it, nor did she plan to use it anytime soon. She didn’t want to owe anyone especially not her nominal husband. She would earn her living, support herself with her own hands. Even if he was a billionaire CEO, she would remain who she was Tư Như Hân, independent, proud, and self-reliant. Her eyes gazed outside. The scenery below gradually shrank. Verdant mountains, winding rivers, and scattered houses appeared like a watercolor painting. The cabin air carried a faint scent of machinery, yet to her, it smelled like change like a beginning. The helicopter soared through fluffy white clouds. A breeze slipped through a small window slit, blowing her hair in gentle disarray. Tư Như Hân felt a rare calm settle within her. A new life awaited filled with opportunities and challenges. About 45 minutes later… The helicopter gently touched down at the Dục family’s private airfield. It was already 6 p.m. when she arrived in City A. A luxury car was waiting, and inside was someone a five-star-standard assistant who politely offered to take her to her new home. Tư Như Hân exhaled slowly, preparing herself to step into a completely different life. In any case, she was ready to begin. The sleek black limousine glided silently along a road that led to a luxurious villa estate she had never even heard of before. Through the tinted windows, she saw tall, lush green trees gradually replacing the city’s towering buildings. The peaceful surroundings were a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle she had been used to. Upon arrival, a grand wrought-iron gate came into view, intricately carved, opening to reveal a spacious garden with manicured lawns, vibrant flowers, and winding stone paths that led to a magnificent mansion. The mansion resembled a modern-day castle, designed in a luxurious European style with a touch of classic elegance. Large glass windows stretched from floor to ceiling, and warm golden light spilled out, making the place look cozy even amidst the dusk. Someone was already waiting as she stepped out of the car… A middle-aged man with a composed, courteous demeanor welcomed her and guided her through the lavish hallways. As they walked, he relayed a message from her unseen husband: “Welcome, Madam. You may call me Butler Hứa. I will be in charge of your daily living here. Everything has been prepared in advance; you need not worry about anything beyond your control. Sir has made all necessary arrangements. You only need to focus on your work and well-being.” With that, Butler Hứa handed her a sleek black bank card bearing her name: “This card is provided by Sir. Please feel free to use it without concern for finances.” Of course, those words were polite his real purpose was to keep an eye on her. Her husband, that elusive man, didn’t trust she would behave herself. And… Another card? She hadn’t even used the last one yet, and now she had a second one? How generous… In the blink of an eye, Tư Như Hân had become a wealthy lady. She stared at the card in her hand, feeling its symbolic weight. “Please come and have a look at your room, Madam. If anything doesn’t suit your preferences, I’ll have it rearranged.” Before she could gather her thoughts, Butler Hứa spoke again, ever professional. Her room was on the second floor, with large windows overlooking the lush garden. The interior was elegant without being ostentatious modern, yet warm. A small desk by the window held a laptop, a phone, and a few books she enjoyed. “I wasn’t sure of your preferences, Madam, so I made a few guesses. If anything’s not to your liking, please let me know and I’ll have it changed.” “No need, thank you. This is more than enough,” she said, waving her hand in thanks. Butler Hứa, initially serious, offered a small smile. “As long as Madam is satisfied. I’ll take my leave now. Your luggage has already been brought up.” He added, “I heard Madam intends to work. Shall I arrange anything for you?” “Oh no, that’s not necessary. Thank you.” She quickly declined. Her job her, life she didn’t want anyone interfering. “Then I shall excuse myself.” Butler Hứa, ever attentive, gave a few final instructions before leaving. He reminded her to call the housekeeper downstairs in case she needed anything from the kitchen. Then he disappeared down the hallway.
