ELENA POV
As I washed the chicken I'll be needing to prepare dinner for the family, my thoughts drifted back to the incident that happened earlier.
My chest tightened as the fear of the unknown gripped me. What will I do, if the Andrian's parents revoke my sponsorship.
Yes, Andrian hurt me but my poverty is way bigger than my pride. If I ever want to get back at him some day, I need to achieve my goals.
Running away won't solve the problem. I'm no coward.
The alarm went off and my gaze drifted to the wall clock. It's twenty minutes past five. Mr & Mrs Harrison would be home soon.
Andrian? I don't know and I don't care.
If I don't block out the thought of that meanie, I might lose more than my dignity today. Losing my job is not an option for me.
I shook my head and prepped the ingredients I'll be needing.
Thirty minutes later, I was done cooking. I smiled as the aroma filled the air. Mum did a good job teaching me.
Andrian loves...
"Stop it Elena Carter!" I hissed at myself.
What's so special about him that I can't let go despite how he treated me?
Someone rang the door bell. I sighed in relief. Right on time.
"Coming!" I shouted and wiped my hands with the napkin and rushed to open the door.
I opened the door and it was my boss.
"Hello sir, ma'am," I smiled, giving them a curt nod and collected their bags.
"How was your day, Elena?" Andrian’s mum asked, returning the smile
My stomach backflipped, as my fake smile vanished.
My day was terrible. In fact, it is the worst day of my life! I screamed in my head.
I dare not say it out
"Very well, ma'am" I lied through my teeth. Every word although familiar, tasted bitter.
"That's good, do set the table" she ordered and I nodded.
Mr Harrison went straight to the bedroom, and she collected the bag from me before following her husband.
I walked back into the kitchen and took out some wares to serve the meals.
Again my mind wandered off. None of them said anything about what happened in school. Does that mean that they have no idea?
I thought Andrian would have informed them. Wait, I can't trust him. What if he's planning o tell his parents in front of me.
Hopefully he doesn't. I don't know what I would do.
The door opened and he strode in. Speak of the devil.
One of his hands placed in his pocket and a smug smirk dangling on his face.
If only, I could punch it off. I diverted my gaze and continued what I was doing. Exactly what a servant should be doing.
"This uniform really looks good on you Elena," he scoffed, slumping on a chair.
I didn't reply him. But I felt his eyes following my every move.
Of course my uniform looks good on me and I'm not complaining.
I felt his presence behind me.. his scent gave him away but I ignored him.
Them his strong hand spun me around, so I was staring at him.
I pushed him back with a finger. "Keep your distance young master Harrison. It wouldn't be nice of someone saw us in this position"
An emotion flashed in his eyes but it disappeared almost immediately like it was never there.
He chuckled darkly, "but I thought this was what you wanted."
I rolled my eyes. What does he take me for?
Yes, I confessed my feelings and of course I still love him but he already told me where his head's at. There's no point having this conversation.
"You're mistaken sir," I flashed him a sarcastic smile. "Besides, you wouldn't want anyone to see you close to a servant" I added and brushed him off.
"Don't you dare..." Luckily, he didn't get to throw more tantrums before his parents walked down the stairs.
"There you are baby," his mum pulled him for a hug.
"Hello mum," he wrapped his arms around her.
He doesn't deserve it.
Soon, everyone was seated and I served them, before leaving them to eat and have their alone time.
Normally, I do join them but not today. I can't bear to be in the same space as Andrian for too long.
"Won't you join us?" Mr Harrison spoke up for the first time.
My shoulders tensed. "No, sir. I'm not hungry"
"Is everything okay? You don't look fine Elena" Andrian mum chipped in.
Why she so smart and observant?
I opened my mouth to talk when Andrian pushed his food aside.
"What is wrong Andrian?"
I rubbed the bridge of his nose, and then the nape of his neck.
"I don't know mum, I feel sick," he lied. Yes, he did. At least I know him that much.
"Oh, my dear" Andrian's mum placed the back of her palm on his forehead.
"But.. but your temperature is normal" she then turned to me. "Anyway, prepare chicken soup for him"
I nodded and went back to the kitchen. I clenched my hands, my nose flared and my eyes stung with tears but I didn't fight it.
Andrian put me through a lot today, yet I have to serve him? What happened to Andrian? Has he always been like this?
Twenty minutes later, I carried the soup to him. He was the only one on the dining. I scanned around to see if his parents were close by.
"Stop looking for them. They had to leave for an emergency meeting," he informed me as he typed furiously on his phone, smiling.
My veins pulsated. He's probably talking to his girlfriend.
Silently, I walked towards him and dropped the soup on the table.
He suddenly slammed his phone on the table. "So, that leaves two of us," he grinned. Took a glass ware and dropped it on the floor.
The shattering sound echoed through the house. Again, he took another and repeated it.
"Stop it, what do I tell your mum?" I shouted
He shrugged and face me, "clean the mess,"
I clenched my fists go hard that my knuckles cracked. My teeth gritted.
I went on my knees and began to pick the shards of glass. As if that wasn't enough, he poured the freshly made soup on the floor.
The hot liquid burned my hand, causing me to yelp, as I sobbed.
He scouted, "this is to remind you of your place" he whispered and walked off.
This is unfair.
