The Accident

According to plan, I broke up with Parker on Wednesday when I knew everyone that mattered was present. Lucas, Josephine and Phoebe were there of course. I told everyone that I found Parker and Josephine straddling each other on Saturday and everyone was shocked. Most guys were cheering Parker on for scoring with two Ice Queens and some were eyeballing me like some prey. Especially Lucas. I didn't know what was going on in Parker's head but he was spouting off pathetic pleas, trying to get me back, telling me that Josephine was a mistake. I thought he wanted this, but I just kept up with my performance, which I thought was my best yet. After I ceremoniously dumped him, with cheers from some guys and surprisingly some girls, Josephine pulled a hesitant Parker away from me and Phoebe approached me. 'You don't think that was real, did you? Him wanting you back?' she paused as I turned away, not wanting to listen to her. 'Oh my God…you did? That is so sweet!' she clapped and giggled. 'What made you think that he would even love you when he doesn't even have me?' 'The least I can hope for myself is that he will never want you.' I walked away from her only to be stopped by Lucas. 'Hey, Camryn…um…' 'Save it, Lucas.' 'Wait…hold on.' 'What do you want?' I asked him. My tone of voice was bland but he looked like he heard an underlying note to it. 'Apart from you, nothing.' Was that a blush I detected? No…it can't be. Hey, maybe I should give him a chance. He makes me laugh. 'You're sweet.' I smiled, laying a hand on his cheek. 'Tell me that in two weeks’ time then maybe everyone won't think of you as my rebound.' I leaned in and placed a slow kiss on his cheek. And I actually meant it. I must be really messed up. Just as I was about to walk off to my next class, Lucas called me back. I turned to face him and saw a huge smile on his face. 'I really like you, Camryn.' I smiled again and shook my head before continuing my walk to class. Turns out that my next class had Parker in it. It was Physics and we were seating partners. He kept bugging me and telling me that we needed to talk. I didn't know what the hell he wanted anymore. He was the one who said that we should end everything. Why did we need to talk? 'Mr. Rosdale, this is class. If you really need to settle your personal problems, do it in your own time.' For once I was grateful for the teacher's interruption. Parker didn't bother me anymore. When it was time to go home, Parker asked me if I needed a ride home. I didn't answer as I walked to the bus stop. He waited for me and even parked the car at the car park in front of the bus stop and walked with me there. I decided maybe a twenty minute walk wasn't so bad so I stood up and walked home. He followed me and told me that we needed to talk. I tuned him out as I walked even faster. But Parker, being Parker, stopped me in my tracks. 'God damn it Camryn, I'm in love with you!' Did he have to tell me that when I'm in the middle of crossing the road? Of course, it didn't help that a car was doing an 80 on a 40 mile road. It definitely didn't help that the car knocked me to the curb either.
