{Mikey’s POV}
This was worse than a bad idea.. this i***t had no clue the can of worms he might open on us. We’re already in a very heated legal battle over Maisie’s mental breakdown, which we don’t blame her for. Now though, now he’s going to get us in trouble for stealing a child’s dna. Why couldn’t he just talk to her? Ask her if the kid was his instead of going through with this insane plan of his.
I sat in the hospital waiting room, watching for any sign of her. Bella was next to me, coloring a picture, and humming. “Uncle Mikey, when can we go home, I’m bored!” She sighed.
“In just a few minutes, we just have to wait to see your mommy, uncle Mikey’s old shoulder wound is flaring up.” I replied, stretching out my shoulder, I hated lying to the little bambina, but it’s not like I could tell her the truth. Bella, and Bastian were twins, they looked nearly identical. Though they were fraternal twins, Bastian was our little bambino, he was brave and fun loving. Bella, she was a bit more shy, but she also had an attitude, a very strong personality. It was easy for her to make friends, but only if she wants to. I hoped this would work, but I wasn’t entirely sure. Bella and Bastian both had their mother’s curly red hair, but their father’s brown eyes with gold flecks.
I sighed, running my hands through my hair before hearing a woman’s voice. “Hello, I’m Sophie Winters, here to visit my father!” She said, when I looked up I got a good look at her. She was beautiful, I wasn’t sure after all this time if my brother was living in a fantasy, or if he was telling the truth about how gorgeous she was. She had a deep auburn hair that fell to her mid back, even up in her high pony. Her eyes were this beautiful amber color, and her skin was pale, and littered with freckles. She was toned, in shape, looked like she works out regularly. Seeing her like this showed me exactly why my brother had fallen so quickly for her, she was stunning. To her side I could see a little girl, black hair, tanned skin, and bright blue eyes. She looked exactly like Max when he was younger.
I sighed, leaning down to Bella and smiled. “Hey Belle’s, you see that little girl over there?” I asked.
She looked up and saw her across the room, her eyes lighting up immediately. “Yeah, I see her!” She smiled. “Can I go play with her?”
“That’s a great idea Bella, why don’t you help her fix her hair? You love playing hair salon right?” I asked, I felt awful for doing this, but Max needed to know.. though I don’t know why he didn’t just ask. “She has a hair clip, why don’t you trade her yours. Yours is purple, and hers is pink, you love pink!”
She smiled getting up and rushing over to them. I could see the girls talking before they traded hair clips. Soon Sophie grabbed the little girls hand as they followed behind a nurse walking away. Bella came back over, and I grabbed the clip from her hair looking through it. I found a single black hair and snatched it, putting it in my pocket before pinning Bella’s hair back up. “Good, now let’s get out of here before..” I started, as I stood up from my spot, but was cut off when I saw Maisie, glaring at me from across the waiting room.
She rushed over to us, picking up Bella and glaring at me. “What are you doing here Mikey, and why do you have my daughter?” She asked.
“We just came to visit, isn’t that right Bella?” I asked. “I also needed to have you check out my shoulder, it’s been achy here lately.”
“Yeah mommy, uncle Mikey’s hurt, and guess what? I got to play with a little girl, and trade hair clips!” She smiled brightly.
“You did, did you?” Maisie sighed glaring up at me. “We’ll talk about the dangers of lice later!” She said through gritted teeth over to me. “Fine, let’s have a look at you Mikey.” She said, leading us towards an exam room. I got away with it.. for now, let’s just hope that once I take these samples to a different hospital there will be no issues.
{Max’s POV}
Mikey sent me the message that he got it done, and they were testing the hair. He said it could take as long as eight business days, and I couldn’t help but groan. I needed to know now, but I guess this was as good as it was going to get, and all I could do now was wait for the email that tells me if the child is mine.
[Time Skip: One Week Later]
I’d been refreshing my email every hour, of every day since Mikey sent me the message. I had just clicked to refresh when the notification popped up. I held my breath as I clicked into the email, a separate tab opening on my computer with the results. “Probability of paternity is 99.99%.” I stared at the screen, unmoving for what must’ve been a while when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. I jumped turning to see Mikey. “So, she’s yours?” He asked, not even looking at the screen.
I nodded, letting out the breath that I had been holding. “I have a daughter..”
He shrugged. “I knew when I saw her, she looks exactly like you.” He said with a small smile playing over his face. “Her and Bella got along, it’ll be nice for her to have another girl to play with. My poor hair can’t take one more hair appointment at Bella’s Boutique!” He laughed, before placing his hand on my shoulder. “Now you just have to run into Sophie and your kid, and get Sophie to admit that the girl is your daughter! Should be easy enough!”
