Divided Paths

They went in opposite directions. The Prince got in a tinted vehicle and drove to one direction while they went to the other one. Alice grumbled as she held a hand on Daniel’s shoulder, they were zooming in the freeway. “So where are we going?” It wasn’t like she wanted to be with the man. Blake seemed too intense, and that meant a lot for someone like her. But he could have at least gotten to know her better besides the name and work. She couldn’t believe it; they were really going to get married. The ring was at her left ring finger, unwilling to be returned. “I assumed that you’d at least get the reference.” The guy sighed as he drove. “I don’t think you’ll be getting me a pumpkin carriage right?” “Well, I apologize that you’d be stuck with me for the whole day.” The man murmured, “At least you get to ride with-” “If I’m going to be a princess,” Alice cut off the man “shouldn’t I at least have protection from the sun?” “You’re getting into your role too quickly eh?” Daniel’s shoulders shook as he laughed and the motor cycle swerved a bit. The woman’s grip instantly tightened on him. “It’s not usually hot here, and if you do get sunburn, we’d be going to the dermatologist soon.” The woman blinked as her other hand clutched her suitcase, “Let’s get back to the hotel first.” Alice was sure that the man’s eyes twitched in annoyance, “You should have said so earlier.” “My bad, but you have to go there!” She had to tell this to Lizze. “I’m under no obligation to obey you.” “Is that so?” Alice’s lips curled into a smirk, “Well would you rather want me to go jump out now? You’d have to take me to the hospital on top of your ‘fairy godmother duties.’” “You’re insane you know?” The man muttered. “There’d be no time to get you to the hospital. Your head would be split open by then.” “Hmp.” she wanted to cross her arms, that scenario escaped her mind before. “But since you’re being amusing, fine let’s get you there.” The man probably rolled his eyes before they went to change directions. *** ‘Congratulations!!!! You did it!’ That text hung unread at his notification screen, the man sighed quietly. Katherine. ‘I actually did not.’ He texted back, within seconds his phone immediately rung. He answered it a good distance away from his ear. “Blakeeeee!” It was a wise decision indeed. “Hello Kate.” “What gives?!” She was louder than usual, even his bodyguard put up the division between the front seats and the back for a peace of mind. “I don’t know what you mean.” “The news! They revealed that you were going to get married! Did Aunt Evelyn-” “I told her to do it, I was too confident that…” the words were bitter in his tongue. “That she’d go running back into your arms?” He was sure that Katherine was already nodding to herself. Quite smug in her earlier assessment that he ignored. “You’re annoying.” “I can’t help but be worried about my favourite cousin.” A half smile formed on his lips, “Your only cousin.” “Whatever, but what are you going to do now?” concern was laced in his cousin’s voice. He paused for a moment, deciding whether she was eligible enough to be trusted. “I met someone.” It was better that less people knew. “She’s not some kind of actress is she?” This is where he has proven more prepared than his right hand man, even his cousin expected him to bring up someone on the spot. “No, she’s not. I met her during the party.” It was not a lie. “Oh wow!” Katherine answered after a few moments. “Blake… that’s, shouldn’t you get to know her?” “Oh yes of course, I’m actually on my way to prepare for a date with her tonight.” A soft sigh sounded from the other end of the receiver, “Okay, good luck cousin.” Good luck was incessantly needed. Another text appeared. ‘Hey, Blake. I kind of heard the news. That was unexpected huh?’ she used a ‘crying and laughing at the same time’ emoji to convey her emotions. ‘Yeah…’ he couldn’t lie to her or make up an excuse for such a thing. Her fiancé could be furious right now and he’d had no position to even say the man had no right to be mad. ‘Anyhow, I didn’t see you leave last night. Did you have any fun?’ She always managed to change her attention to something positive. He adored that about her, she was the one who brought sunshine…warm and bright. ‘It was interesting to say the least.’ His thoughts flew to the woman from last night. Alice Smith was an oddity that he didn’t let pass by him. He could only hope that she fulfilled her obligations or else. If he were superstitious, he would have thought that fate brought them together. He had gone to get a bottle of wine, to drown his self with thoughts and anguished emotions. He was stupid enough to accept her invitation to go to her bachelorette’s party. Somehow he also hoped that perhaps, she’d realize that maybe… he as the best one for her. Yet, somehow, Alice ended up on the other side of the furniture, chuckling all by herself with her head directed on the dance floor. Despite all of that, her presence was angelic; cheeks were blushing as she ran some fingers through her golden mane. Her voice reminiscent of happier times… he sat behind her and finally spoke once more. ‘Interesting?’ Little question marks appeared in their conversation, ‘Well I hope you manage to come back for tonight then, maybe you could tell me more about it.’ Not a second later, ‘Kevin and I would love to spend time with you.’ He started typing a reply, ‘You’re my closest friend after all =)’ she added. ‘Sure, I’ll see you in a while.’ They exchanged words and he bade her goodbye. Blake rested his head against the couch, he had sealed the deal for his relationship with her. Blake would at least show her what it meant to lose him. "Get me to the hotel."
