There is something about betrayal that hurt more than most dull aches in the world. Trust, in itself, is hard to award to most people except for certain exceptions - sometimes, it just feels natural to do so. However, when trust is broken, there is grave difficulty to mend pieces, especially when it had been completely shattered to insignificant miniscule shards.
But pride is another story. When a person is deeply hurt, they tend to protect themselves from anyone and everyone - including the people they love. It is a defense mechanism that is often used to secure what is left of one's dignity. Nonetheless, in Alex's case, pride was preventing her from listening to whatever Callie had to say albeit being mainly controlled by her emotions.
