Chapter four
Bella's P. O. V
"You look bad!" Precious says before getting into the house.
"I know," I say before heading to the sitting room.
"It's so hot in here. Look at how messy the kitchen looks! Your mother is not going to love this,"
I roll my eyes. She shakes her head before heading towards the kitchen. I lay on the couch, with a cushion placed on my stomach.
I can't help but think about the conversation I had with father and Brandon yesterday. I can't believe they did that to me. Well I kind of expected it from Brandon, but not from Father. People do change.
"What you having for dinner?" Precious questions as she sits opposite me.
I shrug before exhaling loudly.
"Are you fine?" I nod.
"Shouldn't you be at church?" I question.
"Dad was not at home, so we couldn't go." I nod.
Precious' family is a family that is divided and broken but try by all means to act like a perfect family. I don't think I could do. They all should just act. I have never seen people who lie and pretend to be happy, like this. We all do have our own problems to deal with.
"How's your mother?" I question.
"She will live," she replies.
I look into her eyes.
"What did she do now?" I question.
"She went back to alcohol. She even went as far as going to insult Fiona's mother at her house."
Precious' mother was, no is an alcoholic who has been going for counseling for years yet still come back to be an alcoholic. Waste of money and time, I tell you. At least they tried to help her. But unfortunately you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Fiona is Precious' big stepsister. She was conceived before Precious' dad married her mother. They only found out when Precious was about ten years old. They wouldn't have found out if Fiona had not demanded to be introduced to her biological father.
Precious' mom didn't want her husband to support Fiona, but Precious' father paid no heed to her. Just like how he was supporting his children within marriage, he was going to support Fiona the same way. Precious' dad, Paul, never failed as a father, in my eyes. It takes courage to stand up to a partner who is controlling and doesn't know what he/she wants in life.
FEW WEEKS LATER
"I have something to tell you!" Precious squeals.
"Okay?"
"I got accepted at UCT (University of Cape Town) and University of Witwatersrand." I squeal as well before pulling her into a hug.
"That's... Oh my word! Congratulations babe," I say.
"I can't wait!"
"That I can see! Which one you choosing?" I question.
"I have always wanted to be far from home, so UCT it is!" she states. I smile at her. She looks so happy. Precious has been through a lot. She deserves all the good stuff. She deserves happiness.
"Hey, don't be sad." she says.
"I'm not sad," I giggle.
"Then why are you crying?"
I didn't even realize that I was crying. Typical me.
"You will always be my friend..." she states before pulling me into a bone-crushing hug.
"Which one you going to?"
"I'm not sure. I want to think it through," she nods in understanding.
Only if she knew. Argh! I'm not going to let my sour mood ruin my friend's happiness. It's time to celebrate!
