The Promise

Beginning

It was a sunny day when Amila was on her way to the river to fetch water and Sandile was just passing by in his dad's car exploring the village. Their eyes locked and suddenly a spark. Amila was left smiling because it was her first time seeing such a handsome boy in her village. On the other hand, Sandile was also amazed by Amila's beauty.

The next day came and Sandile decided to take a walk around the village with hopes to set eyes on the beautiful girl he had seen the other day, but he did not. The girls started talking about the handsome boy who's in their village and how wealthy his family is, leaving each girl with the hope of marrying into the family one day. Amila had no friends because of her poor background, so she chose to befriend her books. She was smart and the dark scholar of K.T Mchasa Secondary School. Days passed without the two meeting each other. It was only when Amila went to buy bread that she saw her prince charming their eyes locked again and Sandile went for it. He greeted her and asked for her name. She responded with a very polite voice "I'm Amila." Sandile couldn't get over her beauty. He asked if they could meet some other time since he's still in the village. Amila suggested that they should meet by the river around 4pm because that was the only time she'd be free from chores. They parted ways with the joy of seeing each other the coming day.
