The room was quiet. Too quiet. Except for the soft ticking of the clock on the wall, nothing moved. I sat on the edge of the bed, my phone clutched in my hands, staring at the last message on the screen: “I’m pregnant.” The words glared back at me, as if mocking my foolishness.
