As she began to panic over the cold darkness, I sighted a little ray of red light in fear Lea held my hand as we both walked towards the far end of the hall as we grew closer to the light it brighten up a bit and then I let go of her hands and disappeared for a bit in the darkness to grab the box of ring for engagement from a friend in the dark room, Lea panicked a bit and called out to me as I resurfaced from the dark just then we got to the light fully by then we were already standing in front of a large decorated board with roses and Petals on the floor surrounded by scented candles lit with very cool ambient light as a cool love song played from the background darkness, immediately I went on my knee, opened the box of the engagement ring and asked her solemnly with her face and mine in the light bright enough just for the both of us to see as I popped the golden question Ophelea Raymond would you do me the honor of being my wife’ she turned frantically, shocked to see me on my knees and then smiled as she replied with joy and happiness ‘I WILL’ immediately she answered the complete light in the hall came up a powerfully loud cheer as the live musical band play soft music.
Leas family were present, her younger Kate ran towards her with her hands wide open for a huge shouting congratulations it was at that point Lea understood that I had it all planned out. It was a surprise engagement party. Toby her mum and the rest of her family and friends surfaced with congratulations as my army colleagues made a loud cheer also making jest of me saying the most timid of the gang got his first and ever crush to be his first and ever girlfriend and now he’s about to convert his first and only girl friend to be his wife, you’re one lucky son of a gun man, they shouted, another said when shall I ever get to meet with my soul mate? The closest man to him said never with your kind of job you will never find anyone close to being yours not to speak of finding a soul mate, laughter erupted in our circle as we all laughed and drank wine. Minutes into the celebration my closest bud ran to the karaoke stand, collected the microphone and called everyone’s attention to the stand. He welcomed everyone politely and began to embarrass me with the nonsense from his mouth in the guise of giving a worthy speech in preparation for my big day, I just could not help but pray that his speech come to an end immediately as I tried to walk up to him to grab the microphone the others held me back while some ran towards Lea leading her to a front sit in the hall as the guy on stage giving his so called speech ended up his speech by saying please pay attention to the next video. This was the height of my embarrassment because these boys actually filmed me crying the first time I summoned courage to go to speak with Lea and she snubbed me out rightly. Immediately I saw the video I froze as I knew what was going to happen next the entire hall would laugh at me, I looked for the easiest and fastest way out of what had now seem to me as a hall of shame and public mockery when the block head on stage signaled the others saying he’s about to get away grab him do not let him escape as if I was some terrorist who just robbed a bank or with an armed nuclear weapon, the next second I tried to employ my evasive skills but was over powered by the lot, with my hands strongly held and my feet being carried I was relocated to the front sit next to my Lea where she held my hands and kissed me softly saying how long have you loved me this much? I whispered in her ears right from the very first time I saw you in grade six but was pushed by the boys to walk up to you in our first year in the university where you snubbed me while we were still speaking softly into ear others ears a wild laughter erupted from the crowd this was the point I was trying to run away from because I knew how it was going to end at this point the video was stopped and then the man on stage said the following words which struck a chord in every ones hears he said this singular action that made a grown man cry is the motivation that has given birth to one of the greatest selfless relationships I have ever seen and today I celebrate with the intending couple Salute La Familial as he raised a glass of champagne facing the crowd and the crowd responded with everyone raising their own glass with the echoes of love, joy, happiness and togetherness in the air. Lea touched me and beckoned that we leave the hall to a quiet place just to be alone and to enjoy our moment together just us away from the noise, crowd, family, friends and the party. I agreed immediately but told her we needed a plan or strategy to be able to leave the hall because those around would not let us out of their sight don’t worry they wouldn’t see us, they are busy and carried away celebrating us because no one ever believed that the sexiest and richest girl in school days and the most sophisticated Lea Raymond of the Ray industries would ever be in a relationship with a solider boy not to talk of agreeing to marry him so we held hands as we both snuck out of the hall silently like ghosts unaware to everyone. As we got out of the hall the music lowered so did the tension too, Lea suggested we head back to her place for more solitude we raced each other to my Maybach GS600, seeing that she was behind, I slowed down to allow her pass me deliberately allowing her to win. I saw the joy on her face shouting I won, I won ,I am stronger than my soldier boyfriend clearly, Wait did you allow me win on purpose she asked as I smiled with a no to her question, I opened the car door for her to climb in, Unconvinced about my reply she demanded another race by morning which I agreed to as we drove off from the parking lot the vibes and sporadic moments and feelings gradually died down and what was left was just the both of us in my car as silence filled the air but even in that silent moments we could hear each other’s heart beat and could read each other’s mind as the journey back home began
In a few minutes we arrived her house as we stepped in as she ushered me straight to her room, the moment we got in the room we were welcomed by a cold and slightly dim, she held me and pulled me close as we began to kiss, eating up each other’s lips I felt an outburst of emotions that have being bottled up for three years. It was my first time being with a woman so I was tried to keep my composure as she touched me but then I noticed that she also stopped and stared at me saying in a low voice I have never done this before……
