Chris' expression had brightened when he'd laid his eyes on me.
Just like every other time, his face always unconsciously broke into a charming smile that made him look like a prodigal young master.
Though I had to admit, my friend was good-looking.
"There she is, my dearest. The woman after my own heart and soul. I was beginning to think you had forgotten about me while hunting leeches. The thought alone broke my heart into a million pieces." He spoke in a tone akin to a heartbroken lover and I rolled my eyes at his antics.
"How could I forget you my dear, you live to make it impossible for me to forget you. You're always binge texting me just to reiterate how available you are, huh?" I replied him, smirking.
"I heard you took down three several decades old and a century old vamp last night. Nice. Though it'll be even better I you'd let me go hunting with you some times. Just imagine the devastating blow we would bring to the leech's community if the both of us went out on a hunt." Chris said, leaning against the doorframe and wiggling his eyebrows suggestively at me.
"Oh please, they were too easy it felt like a walk in the park. You know, the usual. So I don't think I'll be needing you on the field anytime soon."I replied him, my smirk widening and he just sighed, helplessness written all over his face.
A throb in my head reminded me that my hair was still held in a tight bun. I used my left hand to work on untangling it into a loose ponytail before I flipped it playfully at him, eliciting that boyishly charming grin back at me.
"You're a legend, Babe. Almost as legendary as my love life."
Chris said dryly and then chuckled humorously.
"Oh? Which conquest are you bragging about now, you slut? Don't tell me you finally decided to forgo all your everything and did it with a Vamp? " I tauntingly replied with with a raised brow and a provocative look on my face.
My claim was farfetched but the man was a w***e through and through.
"None, actually Sweetness. I'm on a hiatus from being heartbroken by you, REPEATEDLY." Chris said with an almost genuine grin plastered on his face that could make any other person drop their guard against him.
He looked like a Cheshire cat to others but I didn't miss the cunning light in his eyes nor that foxy calculating look smirk.
I was momentarily stunned by how good-looking he really was when he wasn't putting up his facade of a frivolous young master.
"Mr. Chris, I bet there's several fish in the water for you." Gloria purred suggestively.
I cringed in disgust as goosebumps covered my exposed skin and successfully halting my secret musings. Her comment successfully ruined the playful atmosphere and made it become awkward for everyone.
"You're not even subtle anymore. I'm starting to think you're more afraid of me than the vampires are, MY future commander." I replied, ignoring Gloria's comment, while emphasizing on the the My.
"Guilty as charged Shuga. You win. As always." Chris held up his hands in mock surrender and stood to the side so I could walk into his office.
I had almost walked into Chris' office when I heard a scoff followed by an angry huff from Gloria that made me roll my eyes and halt in my tracks.
I decided right there and then that it was time to play dirty if I could successfully get her under her skin and help my bestie to get rid of her annoying ass. My petty side was winning today.
I was going to make use of some of the liberties my position afforded me within the organization. I was going to use my relationship with Chris and his family without feeling even a pinch of guilt about it. I was doing them a favor.
I turned and stood facing Chris, I winked at him seductively and bit my lower lip, then fluttered my eyelashes at him seductively.
I let my fingers trail over his chest which made him stiffen, Chris looked at me in surprise but was quick to catch onto the play. He smirked then allowed his hands to come down and settle on my hips.
I knew I was playing with fire, knowing full well how Chris truly felt for me but I didn't care at that moment. I just wanted Gloria to know Chris was off the table for her.
If he got the wrong idea which I doubt he would, I could always play dumb like I've always done.
I threw caution to the wind for the first time and from the looks of it, Chris was enjoying it way too much, he had started rubbing circles with his thumbs on my hips.
Nothing else mattered except making Gloria Santos know that she and her bitchy ways were beneath me and I disdained getting down to her level and bickering with her.
She needed to understand that if I had ever wanted Chris to be more than my best friend, I could've had him and kept him all to myself effortlessly.
"I believe we have an appointment.....Sir?"
I purred the words making Gloria so furious her expression had darkened and her complexion flushed red in fury. Her eyes continuously sent daggers at me but I completely ignored her.
As furious as she was, she knew she couldn't do nor say anything to me in front of Chris without ruining her chance of ever climbing into his bed. Not that she ever stood a chance.
"I believe we do, my dear. Though you've never needed an appointment to see me. I'm always available for you. Now, get your delicious looking ass to the couch and make yourself at home. I'll be with you in a bit." Chris replied huskily with lustful hunger dancing in his stormy grey eyes that sent a jolt to my mind.
I smirked and happily walked straight to the very cozy couch beside the fireplace that was practically calling out to me. I slumped into it, exhausted.
Dealing with catty ass bitches was definitely not an easy job. It was even more exhausting than hunting Vampires.
Vampires were almost predictable in their actions but bitches were unpredictable.
I laid down and made myself comfortable for some very much needed and deserved sleep only to be jolted awake by Chris opening the door and my hands instinctively went to the dagger hidden in my waistband.
"Woah, woah b***h! Put your toys away. It's just me. Jesus f*****g christ woman." Chris exclaimed with an exasperatedly fearful look on his face, but I just ignored him and closed my eyes, eager to get back on the road to la la land.
"I see you didn't come to see me but just missed my couch. I'm not hurt nor offended at all. Nah, I feel great. I'm floating on clouds. Just use the bestie to your heart's content and then choose the damn couch over a walking talking Adonis like me-self, how very satisfying." Chris ranted in bitter tone like an old lady, but his inability to shut his mouth was begining to annoy the s**t out of me.
Eventually, I fell asleep but it seemed my mind was not ready to take the much needed rest as I found myself in Dreamland very quickly.
I felt like I was floating on air making me confused and annoyed as hell, but the sensation felt so real and familiar. It felt as though I was having an out of body experience.
The scene that was playing before me was all too familiar to be just a figment of my imagination or some hallucination yet it felt real and almost as though I'd lived through it all.
I watched everything like I was seeing everything from a third person's perspective. Which was creepy as hell.
I watched as another me had moved swiftly through the dense forest, my bow at the ready and my senses on high alert. I had been trained by the best.
My first trainer had been my adopted Nana Isabella. She was a member of the elite human vampire hunter organization.
She had started my training earlier than the rest of my age mates, the same time the future commanders were required to start their training as well.
As the other me moved through the dense forest, my mind was focused on my training and field experience in hunting Vampires. Her movements mirrored mine.
Nana had taught me everything she knew about hunting vampires. Their weaknesses, their habits, and most importantly, how to kill them, and the rest was learned on the field and my personal research.
I knew I was a skilled huntress, my aim true and my determination unwavering.
I had a strong sense of duty, to protect the humans from the vampires that preyed on them.
It had always felt as though it was written and stamped on my soul from the moment I could understand anything.
Perhaps it was because I had grown up watching and experiencing the devastation that Vampires could cause to families and individuals, and it made me determined to do everything in my ability to stop them.
I had followed the other me deep into the forest, till we reached a clearing in the forest and her eyes locked to a dark figure that was lurking in the shadows and watching. He was definitely a rogue vampire.
The other me spotted her target, a rogue vampire with eyes glowing red in the darkness. Without hesitation, she notched an arrow and took aim, her heart pounding in her chest. She released the arrow, and it struck true, hitting the vampire in the heart.
The vampire looked shocked when it was hit by the arrow, he let out a bloodcurdling scream as his body burst into flames, its body disintegrating into some disgusting goo before it turned to ash.
She quietly watched as the ashes scattered in the wind, a sense of satisfaction washing over her.
She had finally started avenging her Nana, and she had protected the humans from a dangerous threat.
Despite the satisfaction I got for getting rid of that vampire, something felt oddly strange and unsettling. Something was not right.
