Why is no one answering?
What aren’t they telling me?
What happened to James?
“It’s because of the gunshot, isn’t it?” I mumble, my voice thin and anxious.
I did this to him.
I was so happy to see him alive that I did not think about the consequences of the shooting.
It is a miracle for him to survive a gunshot to his chest! But a miracle comes with a cost, apparently.
“Harper, it’s … It’s nothing.” Andrew stutters, running his hand on the back of his neck.
“This i***t still does not know how to lie”. I hear Ethan grumble.
I smile. He really does not know how to lie… And under normal circumstances, I would be laughing at Andrew’s nervousness and clumsiness. But the situation is too serious to laugh about such mundane things.
