Contract Wife

Sophie's POV I cross my legs and lean forward, elbows on the table, ensuring that my cleavage is fully displayed. I was aware that I had big boobs, which helped me attract men. I smirk at him, satisfied with my success. Men are extremely predictable. “Have you seen something you like?” I purr, c*****g my head slightly and letting my hair fall over one shoulder in a seductive swoop. His eyes meet mine briefly before he lets out a low, deep chuckle. The laughter warms my heart and sends shivers down my spine. “There are many things I like,” he says, “but the question is, are they worth the effort?” I let out a soft, breathy laugh, pulling off the sweet girl act that always works. “It depends,” I say, running my finger along the rim of my empty glass. “Do I appear to be causing you any problems?” He leans back and studies me, his smirk growing. “You appear to be the type of trouble a man is willing to lose sleep over.” I laugh again, this time a little more freely. He is doing well. I will give it to him. He exudes confidence without being overly eager. That is something I like. When they understand how to play, they enjoy the game. The conversation lasts for quite some time. We keep exchanging teasing comments, playful smirks, and silent chuckles. He says something that catches me off guard after my false display, and I start laughing. It has been a while since that has occurred. However, something changes. His demeanour changes, and the warmth in his smirk vanishes all of a sudden. His gaze becomes intense, as if he is peeling back my layers, reading between the lines of everything I have said. I finally stopped laughing. My pulse quickens, and I feel vulnerable for the first time tonight. Then, in a voice that almost takes my breath away, he says, "Do you want to be my wife? I will pay you for it. I give a blink. My mouth moves slightly, but nothing comes out. Did I understand correctly what he said? I quickly adjust my expression, closing my gaping mouth and smoothing it into a cautious smile. "Excuse me, what? “You listened to me.” He leans in and places his arms on the table, his dark eyes staring deeply into mine. “Marry me!” He moves closer, closing the gap between us. “You will have more money than you will ever need or think about in your entire life.” He reaches into his suit jacket pocket and pulls out large wads of hundred-dollar bills. Before I can react, he tucks the money between my breasts and sleeps. I go completely still. Not because of money; I have had my fair share of men attempting to buy my attention, but because this is unique. There is no shady grin, groping hands, or mumbled promises of “taking care of me” in exchange for a night. This man takes things seriously. He finishes the remainder of his drink, stands up, and adjusts his jacket. “My team will contact you,” he says, as if this is all business to him. He turns to leave, but pauses and looks back at me. “You made a mistake today,” he admits. “A common occurrence, but a mistake nonetheless.” When I swallow, my throat suddenly becomes dry. “What is that?” “You did not ask for my name.” Oh, s**t. A smirk tugs on the corner of his mouth. Xavier Jasper. I hope you remember that." Then he walks away, carrying the dark, brooding atmosphere with him. I sit frozen, my mind racing to catch up. What the hell just occurred? It takes a few moments before I return to reality. I shake off the shock and grab the money from my chest, shoving it into my small purse. My hands tremble slightly as I stand up, ignoring the curious stares from those around me. I need to return home. When I walk in, the flat is quiet except for the faint sound of my mother's slow breaths. She lay curled up on the small, tattered bed, her frail body enveloped in blankets. I put my purse on the small table in the room and sat on the edge of the bed, watching her. The scene from earlier plays out in my head on repeat. My name is Xavier Jasper. This is a proposal. Money. So, why me? I lie down next to her, my mind racing with questions, but tiredness eventually takes over. My eyelids become heavy, and I fall asleep without realizing it. BANG! The loud crash awakens me. I stand up, my heart pounding in my chest, and turn to see my mother on the floor, her weak body trembling. “Mom!” I scream, rush to her side. I try to lift her, but she gently pushes me away. “You…” Her voice is strained, but the anger is palpable. She shoves a wad of cash into my face. “Where did you get this?” My body stiffens. Shit." I didn't, Mum." “You sold yourself again, did you?” Her eyes are filled with disgust as she spits. "You are just like your dad. Useless. Filthy. “w*****g yourself out for scraps.” My throat tightens, “It is not like that,” I say, my voice shaking. “I just had a conversation—" “Liar!” She shoves me again, her frail hands surprisingly powerful. “Leave my sight!” I clench my fists, trying to swallow the pain. It is pointless to argue. A loud knock reverberates throughout the flat. I go completely still. My mother gives me a hard look. She hisses, “It is probably the landlord.” “Deal with it.” I get to my feet, quickly fixing my hair, and c***k the door slightly open. Several men dressed in suits stand outside. My stomach is dropping. I am met by a man dressed in a black suit like the others, but bald with dark shades covering his eyes, who steps forward. “Are you Sophie Rodriguez?” I swallow hard and chuckle nervously. “Hey, that is me. Listen, if this is about rent, I promise we requested an extension fee days ago, and I will get it read—” “I am not sure what you are talking about,” he says flatly. "I am here to deliver legal documents for Mr. Xavier Jasper. He requires your signature right away. I stare at him, trying to process what he is saying. “What?” He hands me the paperwork. I skim through them, noticing one thing… A significant sum of money. Every. Single. Month. If it were possible, I would be seeing dollar signs. “Give me a pen,” I request, gripping the document tightly. The man pulls one out, and I sign it on every page before returning the contract to him. It is not worth it. I slammed the door in his face, squealed, and jumped up and down. Rich. I will be wealthy. My mother's inquisitive stare burns into me, but I ignore her. There is another knock. I yank the door open, this time with annoyance. “What happens now?” The man in black remains motionless. “You must depart immediately.” I am blinking. “What?” "Mr. Jasper has no time to waste. “You have an hour to gather your belongings.” Panic strikes. “Wait for my mother.” I just cannot leave her alone—" “It is not our concern.” My mother laughs bitterly behind me. She spits “Go.” “Please leave me alone. That is what you are best at.” I grit my teeth, ignore her, and quickly call my friend Anita. “I need a nurse at my house right away,” I whisper into the line. After she agreed, I threw a few belongings into a bag and stepped outside, taking a slight jump with each step to the black limousine. Something cold presses against my eyes, blocking my vision as soon as I settle. A blindfold. “What the —” My nose is covered with a napkin, suffocating me. I struggle, but my hands are restrained; everything goes dark as I lose consciousness.
