At home, Harry makes tea and sets the table for one. He whips eggs into a warm skillet and sprinkles shredded mozzarella over them. A long day, Harry muses, staring down at his unappetizing dinner. He lets the yolks cook and walks into the living room. He notices the red light on the answering machine blinking back at him. He hits PLAY. It is a receptionist at Saint Keller’s nursing home calling to say, “Zeke refuses to eat.” She says in her message that “Zeke wants to speak to you, Mr. Lennon,” and that the orderlies will allow Harry to visit Zeke this evening. Harry turns off the burner in the kitchen and grabs his coat from the back of the chair. He arrives at the nursing home ten minutes later and finds a parking space beneath a sycamore tree where Zeke enjoys sitting on his good days
