Chapter 45Sara woke to distant sirens blaring. Dawn was breaking, brightening the slits at the sides of the window drapes. After the sirens passed, she had difficulty returning to sleep. She lay still and watched Huxley who hadn't budged. His eye swelling had greatly receded. The bruises had lost their purple and were now just red and yellow and fading. He still wore the splint on his re-set nose, however.
Her heart swelled with love for him. They were so alike, with complimentary abilities; her intuition and his photographic memories. She chuckled. He stirred. Her cell phone rumbled.
Close to noon time, Keo and Thanh showed up while Sara and Huxley were relaxing and recuperating. Sara was impatient to learn of their appointment time to meet with Keo's superiors.
