At Antonino’s house
The radio in the inn was always on. They had bought it with the incentives that the regime gave to public places. A loudspeaker had been hung up outside, above the entrance door and at times a small crowd would gather there, standing to listen to the triumphant news broadcast from the radio.
After the argument with Antonino, Mafalda had had the opportunity to reflect. Everyday she still helped out her family but more and more willingly she left the task of serving the tables to others. It had cost her to admit that Antonino was right in some things and the more she became slowly aware of her own mistakes, the more she realized that changing some attitudes wasn"t that difficult.
