Lila’s POV I sat at the long oak dining table, yawning into my plate for what felt like the hundredth time. It had been well after midnight before I finally managed to stop the downpour, and the walk back to our chambers through freezing rain had been about as miserable as I imagined drowning in molasses would be. Tobi had run me a hot bath the second we got back. He joined me without hesitation, pulling me into his lap as the steamy water slowly leached the trembling from my limbs. We hadn’t spoken much — just held each other — but it was the kind of silence I was grateful for. Now, though, the morning light was cruel against my heavy eyelids.
