Tobi’s POV We didn’t speak on the way back. Lila held my hand, but it was like holding the hand of a ghost—her body moved beside me, but her mind was far away. I sat her gently on the couch and went to run a bath. She was covered in dirt, blood, and whatever concoction Henry had used to close her wound. Maybe warm water would help bring her back. She appeared minutes later, stripping off her ruined clothes and letting them fall to the floor with a wet slap. Only then could I really see her. Bruises bloomed across her ribs, her abdomen, her thighs, even her cheek.
