Maisie was in a deep darkness, trapped in the hidden space under the victorian house. As if in a heavy sleep, she didn't respond. The whispers seemed to fade into silence.
Suddenly Maisie jerked awake, gasping for air. She was back in the bedroom on the floor. No shadows grabbing her. The clock showed dawn like she'd been in a nightmare. Maisie scrambled up,ran to the front door. She pulled it open and the bright morning sun hit her face. She shield her eyes from the sun with her palm.
Outside was normal, the birds singing and the countryside quiet in dawn bright light. She staggered down the wooden stairs, she had had enough and wanted to tell someone about the house. She got on her powerbike and rode out fast to her friend, Arlo, who's studying psychology at the Oxford University. When she got to his hostel, she told him everything about the letter, when she got to the house ,the whispers, shadows and the hidden space, even the basement under the house.
Arlo listened carefully. "Sounds like sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations, " he said. "I know what I saw, what I heard and felt something so real. They pulled me. " Maisie replied. "Maybe the house is playing tricks on you. " Maisie wasn't sure. "I felt it ,I felt them there presences like something real ," she said. Arlo nodded. "Want to go back to the house with me? And check it out." Arlo agreed.
Maisie and Arlo went back to the house. They drove to the Wilson Mansion in Arlo's car. They arrived at the quiet countryside. The house looming before looked normal and everywhere seems sound and sane. Maisie was like is she mistaken or her eyes and brain playing taunts on her. 'They're just waiting for us to come inside ,' She thought.
They entered into the house. It seemed normal, no whispers, no shadows moving or dancing. Arlo and maisie checked the basement, empty. Under the bed, nothing, even the entire house nothing.
Arlo smiled. "Maybe it was stress, " Maisie nodded but felt weird that something is wrong and definitely wrong somewhere, why are they hiding, they should come out and show themselves also to Arlo. She saw them and they pulled her into the dark or is she just seeing things. No it all has to be real, she's not running mad.
Arlo returned back to campus and maisie was left alone in the house but still nothing.
She left the house and went into town for a drink to clear her head. Maisie sat down at her table in the pub, drinking dirty martini. After all she had seen in the house and faced, she needed the cool atmosphere of soft lights, elegant surroundings and soothing music and trying to forget everything that had happened in the house but her mind keeps drifting to the house. Maisie now made up her mind to investigate and found out everything about the house. She stayed in the pub till nightfalls.
She ordered dinner of chicken pot pie and Guinness.
She passed the night at a motel close to the pub and return back to the house the next morning to begin her investigations.
