Chapter 3: A dream

"You have the best presentation and didn't even wait to hear the professor talk about it, you're smart and have a best friend like Denzel, you have virtually everything you need, " Elvis said seriously, "why in the world would you just want to throw your entire life away and die for no reason at all...? " "I do not want to die, that's not my reason for coming here and I don't have everything! My life isn't perfect, I don't even understand my life... I feel strange and hollow inside for no reason at all, I feel like my life force has been sucked out of me, like the very core of my being is no longer mine and I'm just a walking shell," Rose retorted in frustration and briefly stunned Elvis who pursed his lips and remained silent until she had vented out her frustration as tears had begun to come out of her eyes already, "I don't know what's wrong with me, I don't even know if there's anything wrong with me except that nothing feels right. " "There's nothing wrong with you... " Elvis said calmly. "Even you don't believe that, I saw how you were staring at me throughout the time of my presentation, " Rose interjected. "I wasn't staring at you, I was staring at the wall you were just in the way, " Elvis answered seriously, "and even if I was staring at you, wasn't that also part of the presentation? " Rose chuckled lightly when she heard this but she didn't reply and instead seemed to have different thoughts moving through her mind. "So if you didn't come here to commit suicide then what exactly were you doing? " Elvis asked. "I don't know, " Rose answered after a moment of silence, "I was just trying to figure out if this was all a dream, if any of it was real or if everything including me was nothing but an illusion. " "You seem pretty real to me, " Elvis replied after a period of awkward silence, "in fact the way you just spoke makes me feel like you are a lot more real than everyone else I've ever met in my entire life, but even if you are right and everything really is an illusion, how would you find what is actually real? " "I had a dream last night, a very confusing one, it was about a library in the middle of a forest, a forest that I had never seen before or at least I believe I have never seen it before, the truth is I don't know if the memories I have are real or not either, but this dream felt more real than... "Today, in fact it feels more like this is the dream and that was reality, but in this real lucid dream I saw a large library decked in gold, it seemed like I had been there before but I don't know, and then I touched the handle and opened it, I saw an infinite number of books and heard a voice, an incredibly loud voice..." Rose said and paused for a moment. "What did the voice say? " Elvis asked. "I don't remember, the next thing I know is that I woke up today, and I remember all these things that don't seem like they ever happened, " Rose replied. "But they do seem like they ever happened, everyone remembers them so it's either everyone is a part of the illusion just like you or it is not an illusion, and as for your dream, it was a dream and a dream that only you had so it's either nothing but a dream, or it is your own reality in which case it would mean that everyone else and everything else myself included is nothing but an illusion, " Elvis said thoughtfully as though he were making out an hypothesis. "Are those two mutually exclusive scenarios or can they both exist simultaneously, even while being seemingly contradictory, in which case it would mean that none of it is an illusion and yet all of it is an illusion, like I'm from a different plane of reality than everyone else so to me everyone else is an illusion. " Which would also mean that the dream I had was actually real and was my reality but for some reason I was moved into this reality, like I was transmigrated but without my core... "I've been divided into two different persons across space and time, " Rose extrapolated with a poignant solemn expression on her face. "Not two different persons but three, one of them from your original world, one of them in the dream realm which I will refer to as the library, and the last one is you, it would be wrong to assume that the dream world is the same as your original world if it still feels like a dream, " Elvis answered succinctly, "and yet also these three are not different persons but are different aspects of one person, each of them will feel the same way you're feeling right now, that something is missing because you're each missing two halves of yourself. " "I told you my life isn't perfect, " Rose said jokingly. Elvis smiled, "no it's even farther from it than I thought, but this feels exhilarating, I can only see a couple of problems though. " "Aside from the obvious one? What are they? " Rose asked. "First it means that there's someone else, someone who has the power to cut across dimensions and realities, someone who can alter events and literally rewrite history like an outer god, and that person seems to have a special interest in you, and secondly you may very well not be the only one who is from a different dimension, in which case it could mean a whole lot of things, we may not even know what this entire reality was originally meant to be, " Elvis replied seriously. "An outer god, " Rose mused as she pondered it and looked up at the sky, once again feeling the eyes that had been watching her. "Yes, either that or something else entirely different, perhaps all of this is not what we're making it out to be and I've just read a lot of fiction but...if we're right then, this is a whole lot bigger than either of us can even begin to imagine, " Elvis answered solemnly. **** up in the quarter of the dark realm, in a different plane of reality above the astral region, a strange man read aloud from a book. "And so the both of them had a single thought running through their minds in that moment as they asked inwardly, who is it, where is it and what does it want? is it a keeper, a watcher or a Weaver of realities? " then he closed the book and stood up. this man was dressed in a black three piece suit and wore a Royal monocle, his jaw was defined and his speech was refined, his hair was properly groomed and his blue eyes had a hint of gold. "A very captivating story Rose or wouldn't you agree? with everyone else asleep in time, and just the two of us out there living our best lives, " the man said to the girl who lay in front of him and at the centre of the council he headed. But Rose who was dressed in a simple gown and chained to the floor was too tired to answer him and her back still ached terribly from... she couldn't remember, she groaned softly in pain. The man smiled and turned around, then walked majestically to his high back armchair at the top of the stairs, it was obviously the highest chair in the entire building and it was clear to Rose that in this place, the man was the head. "Who are you?" she managed to ask and looked up at him. But he simply crossed his legs and replied, "I am Elvis Dwight, and this is the Dungai council. "
