Chapter 2: The Encounter

1266 Words
I cannot wait for our meeting the next Monday morning when I was sipping on my cappuccino as well as I was reading the newspaper on the tablet. The Crown Jewel of Sicily will be making an appearance in the grand opening of Ancient Greece statues and gemstones. I was smirking when I saw that there were two experts from France that will be doing some of the expertise in the statues opinion as well as the gemstone. I think I can top her off. Lena Ferranti, what a sweet name. I was sipping my cappuccino again before I was licking my lips before I was paying for my drink. I took off from the cafe as it was time for the formal meeting with my boss. Harriet Hermes Caprioli, also known as Hermes, Messenger of God. If I don’t know any better, the new director of the National Museum of Sicily was somehow a very prestigious man in his field of work. So, I don’t know why he was settling down here. He could work at the Louvre for all I know! But maybe he loved his country and wanted to settle down here. Who knows? Then, I did some research on his background. I was wrong after all about him. He was transferred from the National Athens Museum from Greece because he has succeeded in recovering the Citrine of Greece that was known to be gone. But I know it was not. My friend, Arianna Contos was the Woman in Gold or Chrysi Gynaika that was stealing the gemstone so that it can be returned to the rightful owner, who was herself. I scoffed when I was shaking my head when I was thinking about the event. I think her husband was shocked to learn about it when he was looking at his wife arriving at the meeting rendezvous point to return it. Such a surprise! I was smiling when I was walking toward the National Museum of Sicily as I was smiling. I know that my boss will be surprised to know that the woman that he saved from the floor at the airport earlier was his employee. He would be happy or speechless. But I think he would be much just arched his eyebrow at me when I showed up at his office. He must be thinking that I will be asking for his help to take down the man that was humiliating me in the airport a few days ago. I shivered as I was walking inside the museum and I was asking for direction to his office. I thanked the receptionist after that as I was making my way to the Hermes’ office. They all called him Mr. Hermes. I don’t know if it was like a cute nickname for their new boss or it was like a custom for him to be calling that. I think Harriet will be suited for him. I was smiling when I was seeing him from behind the glass wall. He was busy doing something on his laptop as his blond hair was shining under the morning sunlight that it looked like a halo on his head. I was smiling before I was walking up to the door and I was knocking on the door. He turned to look at me and his electric blue eyes were shining at my sight. I smiled before I was leaning against the doorframe. Harriet stood up and he was coming at me. “Well, I don’t expect that you would be coming to find me. So, ready to catch that man?’’ Harriet asked me before he was smiling at me. I chuckled before I was shaking my head. “No, actually,” I said as I was putting up my resume and letter of my new position to him, “I am here for my new job,” I said before he was smiling at me. “Well, aren’t you a lot of surprises, Miss…’’ “Jenny Franco, it’s nice to meet you, sir,” I said as I was shaking his hand. He chuckled before he was nodding at me. “My name is Harriet Hermes Caprioli and welcome to the National Museum of Sicily. I am glad to have you as my team here,” he said as he was bowing at me. I was smiling at him before he was ushering me to the table. “Shall we get to know each other better?” He asked as he was pulling the chair for me to sit on. I was looking at Harriet as he was making his way to the table before he was unbuttoning his suit and took a seat. I was looking at his long fingers before he was putting them on the table. “So, shall we begin then?’’ He asked as I was giving him my folio and he took a look at them. He was reading them before he was nodding at me. “A curator in Greece as well? How come I never knew that?” He asked me as I was smiling at him. “Maybe we are not meant to meet before but we are now,” I said before he was smiling at me and closed the folio before setting it aside. “Yes, it is. So, have you got involved with The National Treasure of Sicily? Or any exhibition before?’’ He asked me as I was shaking my head. “No, if I was being honest. I usually work in the background, out of the prying eyes as I liked to work away from the spotlight.” I said as I was smiling at Harriet. He arched his eyebrow at me. “And why is that?” He asked before one answer came to my mind. So that it will be easier for me to create an alibi and steal something and get away with it. I smiled before I was leaning closer to him. I was looking at him before he was smiling at me. I put my chin in my hand before I was batting my eyelashes at him. “Why do you think?” I asked before Harriet chuckled at me as he was leaning closer to me as I can smell his expensive cologne. I wished I can stay in that scent forever. “One thing I know is that…” Harriet said as he was looking at me with his eyes before he smirked at me. “I know that you will be happy to know that I prefer to work behind the scene as well when you can get intimate with the artifacts that will be on display and you decide what was the best for the visitors to come and see,” he said as I was smiling at him before snapping my fingers at him that Harriet was surprised for a bit. “Exactly! Now you see why I don’t want to be in the spotlight, right?” I asked him before he was staring at me before he was smiling charmingly at me. My heart was thumping before he was shaking his head. “Nope. I will have you work on the team and I will be personally supervising this first exhibition to the socialite of Sicily and I know they will love your work. I do,” he said as I was blinking. “You did? Where do you view my work?” I asked before Harriet smiled with his dimples showed. “That’s for me to know and you to get to work, we start tomorrow,” he said before he stood up and showed me to the door. I thanked him before I was shown to my office and make myself at home. It never too late to do so when you know you will be there for a very long time.
