I was looking at the papers that I was supposed to be acquainted with when I will be doing the exhibition with my director. Harriet was determined to make sure that I will be going through the spotlight with him.
I sighed before I closed the files as I was staring into space. I mean, what was going on in his mind that made him think that I wanted to do it. I was not happy but I know that I will try to make sure that everything will be okay.
“Hey, you got a minute?” Harriet asked me when he was knocking on my door. I was smiling at him before I stood up from the chair and I was looking at him.
“Yeah, sure. What can I help you?” I asked him before I was looking at Harriet. He was smiling charmingly at me before I was following him outside of my office.
“I know that you’re busy doing the readings and all but I wanted your opinion on something,” Harriet said as we were going down the stairs before we were inside the basement. I was looking around before Harriet was pulling a white sheet and revealed the statue of a Greek God.
And it was my favorite one, Hermes.
“Oh my, it’s so…”
“What?” Harriet asked me as I was moving closer to the statue. I don’t think that I would be happy to know that I was getting this close to the statue of my patron. Or maybe I was just too obsesses with Greek myths that I considered Hermes as my ideal boyfriend.
I shook my head before I turned to look at Harriet. He was looking at me before he was arching his eyebrows at me. “It’s perfect. I never saw a better statue than this,” I said honestly as Harriet was relieved to know about it.
“I’m glad that you liked it. It will be for the grand opening of our National Treasure of Sicily. This statue will stand together with gemstones, especially Crown Jewel of Sicily. I hope the patrons of the museum will love it,” he said as he was nodding while smiling to the statue. If I don’t know any better I would say that Harriet was the reincarnation of Hermes.
But I was being too optimistic. There’s no such thing as that.
“Yeah, I think everyone will love it,” especially me, I thought before I was looking at the statue.
“Great, let’s get to work then,” I said as I was looking at the statue as I was trying to figure out when it was being made, how it was being made, what type of substance that was used, and how they find it perfectly.
Being a cat burglar has made me particularly on the type of things that I was looking for. But of course, I was looking at the statue and I was happy to know that I was doing great at this job. I smiled before Harriet was behind me.
“What are you smiling about?” He asked me before I turned to look over my shoulder and our faces were inches away. I was looking at him as Harriet was looking at me with his eyes gazing at my lips. Before I can say anything, he cleared his throat and I was looking at the statue again.
“The statue was sculptured during Classical Greece around 480-323 BC. It was made of marble as we can see it here. It was fine dust of limestone that it was setting off,” I said as I was walking around the statue. I was trying to figure out how it was being done before I was crouching down and examined the statue.
“I love it when you’re in the zone. I can see that you’re in your element here,” Harriet said before I was blushing at him. I was clearing my throat before I was standing up again and I was looking at the statue.
“As far as I concerned, I can only see that and I cannot do the whole analysis if you don’t give me the file. I will try to work from there,’’ I said as I was looking at Harriet. He smiled before he was coming at me with the file.
“Here you go,” he said as I took it.
“Thank you,” I said before I was looking at the file. Then, I realized that Harriet was still standing in front of me. I turned to look at him. He was staring.
“Can I do anything else for you?” I asked him as I was closing the file. I can look at it later when this handsome hunk was looking at me with his electric blue eyes. I think I just died a bit since he was giving me all the attention that I don’t usually get.
Why did you ask? Well, let’s just say that I was not interesting to look at it.
Brown hair.
Brown eyes.
Tan skin.
Completely blending in with the surrounding which made it easy for me to do my side work. I was smiling at Harriet as I was waiting for him to say anything. Then, he cleared his throat.
“Okay, maybe I need something else as well,” he said as I was looking at him. I arched my eyebrow.
“What is it?” I asked as I was wondering maybe he wanted me to look at another statue. Which was fine by me anyway.
“It’s embarrassing,” Harriet said as he was rubbing his neck before I was looking at him. I laughed before I was smiling at him.
“I’m sure I can do by best to make sure that this exhibition will be a success,” I said before Harriet was looking at me. I was waiting for him to drop more work on me but what he said next left me frozen to the spot. Maybe I was not hearing that right.
“I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” I asked as I was blinking my eyes at him. Harriet sighed before he was looking at me.
“I said if you are free tonight, will you be my plus one for a wedding reception of my brother’s?” He asked as I was looking at him. He must be joking, right? I mean…
“You want me to go to a wedding reception?” I asked. Harriet nodded.
“With you?” I added. He nodded.
“Tonight?” I asked again. And Harriet nodded again.
“It was an intimate gathering and all of my brothers will be there. I just wanted to make sure that I don’t go alone. And I thought maybe you would love to come and be out in town for a while. It would be great for you to sightseeing as well,” he said as I was smiling at him.
Did he not know that I grew up in the streets of Sicily? He might think that I was from somewhere else.
“Hmm, I don’t know,”
“I will make sure that you will have a wonderful time,” he said before I was arching my eyebrow. Hmm, maybe that would be a great idea.
“Okay, you win,” I gave in before Harriet was smiling at me. “But I want the best champagne and the best food that you can buy,” I said before Harriet smiled at me.
“Oh, cara,” he said as he was looking at me, “you will have the best,” he said as his eyes were twinkling with mischief.
I think I might have made a deal with a devil.
