Chapter 9: The Winner

1469 Words
After that confession, I went home to see that my eviction later was coming from the bank. It stated that I have 2 weeks to pay all the debts before I was being kicked out by them. I sighed before I was putting the eviction notice on the coffee table as I was rubbing my face. It has been a tiring 3 days where we don’t sleep like a normal human being. I was leaning against the sofa before I was closing my eyes and my face was looking at the ceiling. “What am I going to do if I don’t win?” I mumbled before I was thinking about a lot of scenarios that will be happening if I don’t win 1 million euros. I was trying to remember the jobs that I saw and in need of the town square. “But where will I be sleeping and rent a house? I don’t have savings for that,” I said as I was getting up from the sofa before I was walking to the kitchen. I picked a water bottle before I uncapped it and I was sipping the cold water before someone was ringing the bell of my house. I wonder who would that be? I went to put the bottle on the island before I went to the door and opened it. I was surprised to see that Morganite was here. “Morgan, what are you doing here?” I asked her before she was smiling at me. “It’s time,” she said before she nodded at the bodyguards that were coming with her. They moved and instantly, I was being dragged out from my house. “What the—“ I said as I was looking at the car that I know so much. It was Percy’s car and I was confused by all of this commotion. I saw that there was no one from the contests except for the judging community, Ryes, and Percy. But the real question is, why he is here? “Okay, I don’t know what was going on here but what are we doing here right now?” I asked Morgan as the guards were putting me down on my feet. I was looking around the group before Morgan was smiling at me. “Well, we have decided to choose a winner but we have a draw. The judging community could not come to a decision to pick one and it looks like you and Percival are their final choice,” Morgan said as I was looking at Percy before I was looking Ryes. “Ryes, anything you want to share?” I asked him as I was crossing my hands in front of my chest. He smiled at me nervously before he was looking away. Okay, now I know there was something that was going on. “Okay, I know something was going on so you better tell me or I swear—“ “Can you just calm down a bit, Elise? It was nothing serious. I asked them to play this part,” Percy said before I turned to look at him. I arched my eyebrows at him before he was nodding at everyone else. “Okay, that’s our cue to leave,” Ryes said as I was looking at Percy before everyone was leaving us to stand in front of the road as the cars that were coming with Percy was gone. Well, except for his. I looked at him as I was glaring at him. “Care to explain?” “Yes, in fact, why don’t we sit down and talk about this?” He said as he was pointing at me to get into the house. I don’t think that would be a good idea when Percy was adorning his black Armani suit with a white shirt. I gulped before I was shaking my head. “No, I am fine talking about this here. So, why don’t you start, Mr. Caprioli?” I asked him before Percy was clicking his tongue at me. I never heard him did that before to me, well at least when I was his best friend. But I guessed that privilege was off now. “Elise, do not be stubborn. Now let’s go inside and I think we can do this the easy way or if you’re being hard, I can do the hard way. For me, I’m fine either way. So, what will it be?” He asked me as his electric blue eyes were looking at me intensely. I never saw Percy like this and I think he scared me a little bit. A little bit, mind you. I rolled my eyes before I was putting my hands to the side. I was throwing my hands in the air before I was walking toward the door as I was mumbling about. “They took me to be in front of you and now you want to be inside my house. Great, just great,” “I heard that,” Percy said before he chuckled. I was opening the door before we were sitting in the living room. I was turning to look at him as Percy was making his way to the living room after he closed the door. I was arching my eyebrow before he was taking his seat on the sofa and he asked me to do the same. I rolled my eyes again before I was looking at him. I was crossing my knees before I was crossing my arms. “So, you want to talk. Then, talk,” “I don’t appreciate that tone, woman,” “And what are you going to do about it, Percival?” I taunted him before his electric blue eyes were clashing with my pale orbs. I gulped when I saw that he was not joking right now. I shut my mouth before he cleared his throat. “So, here’s the thing. Your father, bless his soul, has come to me before he died,” Percy started before I was listening to him. I was curious. Did dad go to meet Percy? Why? “He said that he doesn’t want to burden you when he died. And so, we made a deal,” Percy said as I was looking at him. I was trying to grasp what he was talking about but I know it will not end in a good way. Percy looked at me as I was looking at him. “And what is this deal?” I asked him, hoping that it was nothing too dramatic. Percy sighed. Okay, something dramatic. “He told me that he approved of our wedding if we got married after his death. With this, the money that I was providing to the banks to clear his debt will be gone,’’ he said as I was looking at him. “But I thought this was about the winner of the competition?” I asked him as I was furrowing my eyebrows. Percy sighed. “Yes, about that. The winner got the 1 million euros but they also have to fulfill something,” Percy said as I was looking at him. I think I got the gist now. “Was that why the community—“ “Yes, they think that you and I should talk about this. But I have a better solution which is involving us getting married to each other and everyone will have a happy ending,” he said as if it was like a business deal. Oh no, I will not enter this marriage loveless. I was staring at him as if I was trying to find something under those cold, calculating eyes. I wondered what happened after I left. But wait, what about Morgan? “But aren’t you with Morgan?” I asked him as I was looking at Percy, he was surprised to see that I was saying that name. “What about her?” “Aren’t you guys involved?” I asked him before I can stop myself. I gasped as I was closing my mouth with my hand. I can see that Percy was looking at me with disbelief. “What do you mean I was involved? Morganite and I were only high school friends. Nothing more than that,” he said before I was looking at him. I was trying to figure out what he was telling me was truth or a bluff. “Are you serious?” I asked him as I saw that Percy nodded at me. “Yes, why would I lie such a thing? Besides, the only woman that I ever wanted to leave me 5 years ago,” he said sadly before I was looking at him. Left him? 5 years ago? Does that mean… Percy turned to look at me before he was getting up from the sofa and turned away from me. He was making his way to the door before he was holding the doorknob. I was stunned to hear this from his mouth right now. “And I think she doesn’t believe me when I just confessed my love to her,’’ he said before he was turning the doorknob and walked out into the rain. I did not know what happened but all I know was this. I was running toward him into the rain and everything.
