Chapter 9: The Stealing

1186 Words
I was braiding my hair as I was adorning my black clothing. I was smiling at myself when I was in my element. Black clothes. Black wig. Black mask. I looked incredible before I was turning to look at the plan of the castle that I will be coming tonight. I was ready as I was taking one last look at myself before I was smiling at my reflection. “Time to get my game on and play,” I was looking at myself before I was getting out of the house and I was heading to the castle. I was not taking the highway but instead, I was getting to the castle by motorcycle and I was using the shortcut that I know. I was trying to make sure that I was not being discovered by the people that might be inside the castle. I parked my motorcycle before I was walking in the shadow and I was sneaking around to see that Harriet was sleeping on the second floor, directly below the room that has the Crown Jewel of Sicily. I was happy to know that Harriet was here but he also said that I was playing right into his arms. He told me that the Black Mask will come and he will be waiting. But right now, he was sitting on the balcony before he was looking into the sky. I gulped when the wind was blowing. His tousled blond hair. His chiseled jaws. His perfect lips. I shook my head as I was trying to focus. I cannot have him distracted me from doing my job. I think he was just bluffing that he will be waiting. I turned to look at Harriet before he was getting inside, left the balcony, and switched off the lights. I smirked. So much for waiting, Hermes. I was looking at the window that was directly below Harriet’s room. I was checking one last time for my gear as I will be going in and out of the room. I sighed before I was running between the shadows that were formed between my hiding spot with the castle. I was lurking in the shadow before I was leaning against the wall of the castle. I was looking around as I was trying to locate the guards that might be doing some rounds. But apparently, the Caprioli clan did not need it. I arched my eyebrows before I was getting my hook and shot it upward before I was strapping myself to the hook and took me up toward the window. I was taking out my laser cutting glass device before I was putting the hanging device so that the glass will not fall and make a sound. I know I was a genius in this stuff. I looked around inside the room where the Crown Jewel of Sicily was still on display but what was catching my eyes was the silhouette that was standing behind the Crown Jewel of Sicily. I thought it was my hallucination but it was not. It was another thief that was coming for my prize. “Stop right there. You have no right to take it,” I said in Italian with Sicilian dialect. I think not many people know that I spoke the dialect as I was telling them that I was born and raised in Rome. The person was standing still there as if he/she was not listening. I think I have to step my game. I was about to say something before the other thief was snatching the gemstone and ran out of there. I was blinking my eyes before I was running after him. “Stop!” I hissed at him before I saw that he was going through the window and I was following him. By the looks of it, the thief was male. A very attractive male, if I was, to be honest. I shook my head before I was running on the grass and I was trying to find something that might be stopping this pursuit. Then I was taking my hook and shooting it across the field before it was hooking the foot of the thief. He fell with a thud before I was catching up to him. But that was not it. I was looking at the man that was adorning the black clothing but his mask was orange. And his eyes…well, it looked familiar but before I can dwell on it, he was snatching the hook and getaway. I was blinking a few times before I was coming to know that I might be losing this battle that I started. And this new player was one mystery that I have to uncover. “What’s the matter, signorina? Cat got your tongue?” He asked as he was standing on the branch of a tree before I was looking at him. He was smirking with his perfectly lined teeth was showing. I clicked my tongue before I was crossing my hands in front of my chest. “Who are you?” I asked him as he was chuckling lowly. That sent shivered to my spine before I was looking around. No one will catch us at this rate. I think we’re far enough from the castle as the dim light from the moon was the only lighting that we have. “Signorina, signorina. Don’t you learn that it was rude to ask for someone’s name when you don’t even close with them? Or should we get to know each other better and we can discover who we are to one another,” the thief said as I was rolling my eyes before I was walking to make sure that his stance did not intimidate me. “I don’t think that I was asking for your REAL name. I was asking what are you called. As for me, call me Black Mask,” I said as I was bowing at him before I was looking at the thief. He was smirking at me with his delectable lips showing that perfectly lined teeth. “In that case, I am called Hermes,” he said as I was arching my eyebrow at him. “Hermes? Like the Greek god of Thieves?” “Yup, that’s the one,” “That’s very interesting when you were the one that does the stealing. You should have minions that will do the job for you,” I said as I was trying to stall him so that I can find his weak angle. But this man was much more than I expected. “Why would I have minions when I can have all the fun?” He said before he was looking at me up and down. I was shivering when his eyes were settling into mine. “After all, I wanted to uncover all your secret, Black Mask, and perhaps you would be interested in uncovering mine then,” he said before I scoffed at him. He shrugged. “In your little dreams,” “Suit yourself and oh, by the way, you will not be seeing this anymore,” he said as he was holding the Crown Jewel of Sicily before he took off. And with that, I was following him to the next stop that he might be going. I think this new thief intrigued me more than the prize now.
